I personally hate daylight savings time. Pick a time that distributes the time as evenly as possible throughout the year and stick to that.

Especially as a parent this is brutal. Anyone who has ever had a 1 year old and had to deal with this knows what I mean. Kids don't adjust like adults do to time changes. We understand what is going on but they don't. I'd be totally okay with getting rid of it personally.

I have watched a video on YouTube by CGP Grey about Daylight Savings Time, he basically said that Daylight Savings time basically helped out the soldiers in war because they needed to have as much daylight as possible. A huge downside of DST is it cost a lot more than save with using a lot of artificial lights and other appliances like heating and air conditioning.

With a guy living in the Deep South, it gets really hot and humid in the summer and you basically need the AC on for awhile and with DST, you have to use it a whole lot, and having it on will cost households a lot more on the electric bill, and if DST didn't exist, most people will still be at work during the core of the daylight hours and when they get home, the house won't be so hot and be enough to with just the windows open.

So, Daylight Savings Time is more of a waste than anything, I feel like if they stop doing this, it would make things a whole lot better.

Kill it. Russia already did. It makes no sense that there is one day with 23 hours and another with 25.

Uh, daylight savings doesn't add darkness, it does the complete opposite. Its darker for longer in the winter regardless of what time it is, daylight savings has nothing to do with changing how many hours of night there is, there's still the same amount which is like 12 here in the winter.

zanderlex :

It's goal is to move the sunlight hours to something decent. However, the means of doing so is to shorten one day by not having a 1AM hour and to lengthen another by adding an extra 1AM hour. One day has 23 hours and another has 25. Sure, this has it's uses, but really isn't necessary.

ask a real farmer if this is working:

Conversely, DST can adversely affect farmers,[74] parents of young children,[74] and others whose hours are set by the sun and they have traditionally opposed the practice,[4] although some farmers are neutral.[92] One reason why farmers oppose DST is that grain is best harvested after dew evaporates, so when field hands arrive and leave earlier in summer their labor is less valuable.[11] Dairy farmers are another group who complain of the change. Their cows are sensitive to the timing of milking, so delivering milk earlier disrupts their systems.

tell your congressmen to kill the daylight saving time.

Txgangsta : That's not daylight savings at all, there's always still 24 hours a day, it just goes back by 1 hour. There's never 23 or 25 hours. So instead of the 24 hours going from midnight to midnight, it from 11pm to 11pm basically.

zanderlex :

Dude, hear yourself. "It just goes back by one hour"??? Do they own a time machine or something? No, sometimes there are 2 separate 1AM's, and sometimes there is no 1AM. An hour is either added or subtracted from the day. One day is 23 hours long, the other is 25.

Txgangsta : Go and look it up, there's never 2 1AM'S every day. There will never be a day that doesn't have 24 hours.

"Common convention in modern times is for the civil day to begin at midnight, i.e. 00:00, and last a full 24 hours until 24:00 (i.e. 00:00 of the next day)."

On top of that, daylight savings happens at 2 AM, so you still have to pass 1 AM, on both daylight savings days, so its not like one of the 1AMS can disappear.

zanderlex :

Omg...

"Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months by one hour so that in the evening daylight is experienced an hour longer, while sacrificing normal sunrise times. Typically, regions with summer time adjust clocks forward one hour close to the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn to standard time."

"In the case of the United States where a one-hour shift occurs at 02:00 local time, in spring the clock jumps forward from the last moment of 01:59 standard time to 03:00 DST and that day has 23 hours, whereas in autumn the clock jumps backward from the last moment of 01:59 DST to 01:00 standard time, repeating that hour, and that day has 25 hours."

Emphasis mine.

Tgangsta: All right, then you should have been a bit more specific that you were mentioning the individual days, because daylight savings isn't the actual days that the clocks change, daylight savings is the 8 month period between the 2 days, March 8th and November 1st.

I hate daylight savings time. In the fall I'm all like "YES!!! ONE MORE HOUR BEFORE BED!" And then in the spring I'm all like "NOOOO!!! WHERE DID MY HOUR GO?!" I say junk the whole thing, daylight is over rated anyway.

They won't take it away if that means companies are making more money out of people using more air conditioning and such.
Governments are only loyal to companies, don't forget.

However I think it should be taken away. I never thought deep into stuff until rather recently but it apparantly messes up sleeping for a lot of people because of the stupid change.

Throw daylight savings under a bus please.

All DST does is change our time to better fit the off center spin of our world. Earth does not spin while perfectly up and down and this causes the time that the sun is up to change over the year.

I have yet to see convincing proof that daylight savings time does what it claims to do: save on electricity. For two years I lived in Saskatchewan where time remains constant all through the year. I honestly preferred it there since I did not have to worry about sleeping more or less once a year.

I didn't even know what this was until I moved here 10 years ago. In Puerto Rico, daylight saving time is not observed. I don't see how it saves electricity seems everyone gets excited about an extra hour so they stay up longer using electricity and when losing an hour well that doesn't seem to make such a huge impact. But, keep it I look forward to an extra hour.

jlove92 : It seems that daylight saving time is just an excuse for governments to "show" that they are "doing something" to help us when in fact they aren't. Saskatchewan and Arizona don't observe it; I have yet to see whether their electricity bills are THAT much higher.

I wish daylight saving's time was just made permanent. Most people I know love having the extra hour of sun in the evening. Having the sun go down around 5 in the winter time is just depressing, man

I actually find that the sun rising very late (past 9 a.m. in Saskatchewan) is more depressing since it's still dark when going to work. Otherwise, there are means to cope with the lack of sunshine
