Why are they making a Die Hard prequel???

I was looking through some news articles and I stumbled upon this little report: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/21/bruce-willis-die-hard-prequel

What? Why?????? Just why would you think it's a great idea to make a prequel of Die Hard? Isn't the original Die Hard already an origin story of John McClane before he becomes a well-known one man cop? Isn't the German terrorist incident the one that got John's story going? Why would there be any type of an origin story BEFORE the origin story?

This is basically a cash cow on Die Hard, but I don't know how well it can match the originals since Bruce Willis is not even going to be starring in it if it's a prequel (and him being old)

Of all the....why would they go and do that! The old die hard films were amazing and didn't need of a new prequel to it! I hate how filmmakers now make a sequel and a prequel to a great film from the past that only turns out bad. and B which won't let the previous films rest in peace as they should. What do they think that it would be good?! Its going to get most people who have watched die hard before upset! The nerve of them! It really is annoying how it comes to this today. >.>

I have no idea why this makes any sense at all. How do you take a character that didn't come into his own until that first movie was made and put him into another movie set before the original one? Makes no sense to me.

I agree with others that it is just cashing in on the name. They already tried that with #5 (I think it was the fifth one) and it was terrible.

I'm actually not surprised with any of this anymore and if people are paying attention to what's coming out movie and TV wise these days, EVERYTHING is a reboot or a remake, or something of that sort.

I mean heck, if they can reboot 21 jumpstreet into a buddy cop comedy type movie then make a SEQUEL of that reboot anything can happen. Just have to milk out any sort of popularity of any franchise they can.

I mean they remade Karate Kid, they are remaking Ghostbusters. Did either one of those movies need to be rebooted? Heck no. lol
