My general activity has lowered drastically in the weekdays, but I find myself posting on the weekdays just as much as I did in the summer :v. Maybe because I tend to IDLE a lot, and I don't post much to begin with.

But yea... school started August the 18th for me, so school is a factor in my activity level .

Well, I think my activity stays at the right pace. I just went crazy last TdV, and it's hard to get used to not that much activity all of a sudden.

I'm in for a little spree. I really want to reach that 1k milestone before August ends, and I feel I'm running out of time.

I only post when I want to, which is pretty kinda rare those days. I'm not sure why, but I'll try to get my posting going... (not like June 2011 though, don't worry. )
I guess it's more because I'm much more active on Minecraft than the boards itself? Who knows.

Looking at what Snowdeath said, I have to wonder if that's part of what has caused the forum activity decrease that David's been concerned about.

Maybe we should bring back the VCS. I'd actually like to see it again, but oh well.

And does anyone know why this site attracts kids mostly? I mean...these are games that adults grew up playing, so why aren't more of them around? Unless it's because adults can most often buy games for themselves and kids can't.

As the ones that actually know me, they know i am not much of a poster in general. I actually have to look for something good to post on. i don't like the topics that simply ask questions to get a simple 10 word or less response. As most of the member's are kids, i understand how things like that happen a lot. Being 33 years old, i tend to be more quiet anyway. I love this site and just wish i had more to talk about. Lately i mostly keep to my own threads like Whole new World. Maybe if we had like double cp post weekends or double Viz post weekends or both that might get people more interested.

I'm pretty sure it's because many users have started school by now or are preparing for school. I'm anxious to hit 6,000 posts so I should be able to post-spree with you I'm not positive I can though, this school year is going to be very busy. I got a lot of homework on the first day of school! In fact, I still need to finish my 2-page paper about myself due Monday!

I'll see how busy this week will be and if I'm not too busy, I'll post I tried to raise the board's activity on the 7th of this month, I'd be happy to do it again!

I think it's mostly because of laziness on us board user's part. Although there are also quite a few users who only use the RGR. One more thing I'd theorize is that school has started yet again for many users here. So a lot of people will be really busy during the weekdays.

PacmanandMariofan : well, I'm not intentionally spreeing exactly. This is just how I used to post.

I was doing 13 posts an hour for a while earlier today and that is NOT fast.

I just want people to post regularly. People don't have to post 50 times a day for site activity to be high. 100 people making 3 posts a day is 300 posts per day and 3 posts is not that many. Either way I hope the activity picks back up if we can get a few people "spreeing" and some new topics popping up as well.

I've already decided to do some sprees this last week to pass quota for the month and to increase my post count a bit. It annoys me because I always post on a nice, constant pace and my schedule this month completely messed it up. 

Yeah, like people stated before, school is the number one reason for not posting much. I find it not weird at all, new stuff and new teachers etc. to get used on. Also I think the activity on the boards is lacking comparing to earlier years. There were more new users who started posting after signing up than now.

However my own activity has increased compared to other months. In some months I made only 2 posts. Now that has been increased by a lot. Not quite the number I want to reach each month but good enough for now.

at least we're back above 300 posts per 24 hours (as of my posting this)

hopefully with that kickstart to posting we can stay above that mark for a while. Didn't like seeing it down around 150 yesterday

There is usually a downturn after the TdV month, also a LOT of kids have gone back to school over the past week or so. So that means a lot less posting from people.

I will probably have another uptick in posting myself after mid next week since I will have a few days off from work.

I have been posting about 3 posts or more a day. I usually post that much and most times I even post more than that especially around the first part of the month. I go on posting spree's a couple of times a month. Hopefully that will never change. People are busy a lot because of school but hopefully the forums can get a bit more active.

I keep looking for threads that actually require me to think before I post rather than ask for a stupid, worthless brain dead response.

Then I had a huge conversation with my 13 year old brother on the Mario Series as a whole, Kirby, why Nintendo makes certain decisions with their games. Fire Emblem awakening.

How Mario Sunshine is different From Mario 64 and lost the magical, mystical feel for that 64 had. How Super Mario Galaxy created some very good atmospheres with the music, and scenery, like that one level in which you take a shell through a ghostly under water cavern, but then emerge into a peaceful field at sunrise. You throw a shell at a treasure chest and free. . . captain Toad?

He gives you a power star, and the music it plays once the star appears. . .It's so quite. So mysterious. It add so much to it, and I really loved.

Then We talked about how Mario 64 felt great back in the day. Sunshine had good gameplay, but where was the attacking enemies? More platforming that goomba stomping really. Even cleaning up goop is dropped through a lot of the later parts of the game. Which I felt could have been brought back in a really epic fashion if they tried.

We talked about Kirby, and whether Meta Knight is actually a cool character or not. He's a ball. A squishy ball, like Kirby presumably, but if you give him a mask, a sword, cape, and wings. Along with one awesome Japanese voice actor- who does the English acting too?

Better than Shadow.

What about Shadow. Does red stripes, some new gear, super sonic quills, and an edgy back story of despair fit with Sonic? Is it good? How about rock music? Robot's killing their siblings without so much as giving them a chance to change sides? Gamma just showed up and put the death mark on his younger brothers. He didn't try to convince them of anything. But maybe because of the flickies inside of them, he knew it didn't matter. . .they all had to go.

And this would be the best way to do it.

There are lots of things to talk about. As a gaming site, the first thing I'm looking for regarding topics are. . . well. . . gaming topics. Ironically political, social, and religious ones get much deep posts, and we have a dislike system that enables a majority to dislike the opinions that they. . .

dislike.

So I wouldn't ever really post in there. And few people do anymore.

I tried to get people to actually talk on this forum, like. . .well I felt like they should. I think the last words of warmaker would ring true.

The reason no one's posting is as simple as two things.

1. People are going to school.

2. People don't want to really talk.

Like some have said, the threads are too simple, and I just can't waste my time on stuff like that. I remember when I used to frantically search the boards for new stuff. Megarevolution's Sonic forum was one of the best because of all the talk about . . . well, just one franchise and seriously!

We don't really have that now. I even saw a friend's review get no responses and he's a local moderator.


I've kindof moved on. . . no, I really have.

I'm here for a few friends, and one guy I PM and that's it. I don't really enjoy posting on here anymore for as much as I study games, what I study isn't really appreciated and almost no one responds to what I have to say though the A.R.K. does have a few good followers. Just no one with any comments and my fan theories are running out. . .

I have to write fanfiction, which I'm uncertain that you would want to read.

So yeah. This is just seasonal. But still. I think people have (even before August) forgot what this site was about and for. It's a retro gaming site. That's it's theme.

There are very few real conversations about it, and what it's themed about.

Sword legion : well, whether or not you stay or go I thank you for being so brutally honest. I agree completely about how we like real conversation here a lot of the time.

With crap like "Elimination" threads all over the place people can take 5 second to copy and paste a list and not actually TALK about things. They just want to take the easy way out and get rid of something they dislike rather than actually discuss something interesting. I don't care too much about being right or wrong but I want to TALK to people.

I'll admit that I was never a huge gamer in my life. I played a handful of games a lot and skipped out on tons of games people said were great. Being at Vizzed doesn't make a lot of sense for me in that way. I've tried instead to focus on the other aspects of the board and allow people who are really into gaming to talk about games.

Still.... I feel what you're getting at. People want easy/fun places to post. That's not really what forums are about. At least not what the majority of the forum should be about. There are areas of the forums that are for silly/crazy/fun things. The rest of the forum should be getting actual constructive conversation. It doesn't always have to be "serious" but it should be back and forth about SOMETHING.

In all seriousness, though, I'd like to respond to your response to Sword Legion, if you don't mind.

I'm of the opinion that many people here have never looked at a definition of a forum board. I think that a lot of people on the site came here without understanding the purpose of a forum board. Forum games were started because, well, they can be fun! However, those who don't understand the purpose of a forum board are going to be the ones who take advantage of threads without much value to them. Slowly, the culture of the board has shifted from one matching the original intent of a forum board, to a 'how many posts can I get' mentality. Quantity over quality is the current view, and many good threads are drowned out by the amount of posts made for quantity.

You're right, too much of the content on the board simply isn't worth a post. It's the environment vizzed has been moving towards. If we really want it to change, we simply need to be more involved in threads that do have a subject worth discussing. Change won't happen by talking about it, change happens when we act.

Ugh, I mean I guess I understand it, what with your position and all, but I find the lack of posting somewhat refreshing.

It feels more real, when stuff isn't on the line, people seem more genuine in these inactive months and I value that so much.

Personally, I think it's obvious why my own activity has dropped off from the past, I just have different priorities. I am not the type of guy who will carry a board's activity for a day or two. I find more enjoyment in setting up games and watching people play them.

And once my move to Cali is complete, my activity might dip more than it already has.

It's plausible that I'm approaching the end of even that era as well.

It doesn't help the topics here don't interest me in the slightest. The topics that do just aren't appropriate for this board, and I respect the place too much to force the change required to make them appropriate.

Doing some calculations, I just discovered that this is actually the first non-TdV month I score more than 100 posts, and seeing how I'm posting I should have no trouble in making more than 150.

It's interesting to note how it took me like a year and a half to collect my first hundred, and now I've finally been able to score that amount in a single month. So it seems that the board's inactivity is more relative than anything.

I must agree with Leggy, in general terms, people in non-TdV months think twice before making a post. That means they could be missing some posts at the end of the day they weren't actually sure to make. Plus, people seems to be taking things more lightly, as nothing happens if I spend a full day without posting. I don't think we can change that, but we active posters can balance this out and at least keep the board's activity at a decent mark.

I see that we don't have many quality conversation threads on Video Games. We have tons of video game threads, but not many good ones. To quote a disgruntled member from a while back "Most of the threads are things like 'if your favorite Nintendo character took a poop, what kind of poop would it be?'". xD Dramatized, yes, but that's about the size of the matter with VG threads lately. I love the rare opportunity to have an actual discussion on a game. I mean these simple threads are fun and all, but there isn't any conversation happening there, and as geeo and you both pointed out, conversing is the point to a forum. Talking WITH people, not AT them. I enjoy a silly thread about random things to do with gaming sometimes, but I see too many people with a one-and-done mentality about posting in threads: they post in a thread and then never revisit it. Why not? It's entirely possible that a true conversation could develop, and that would be great. You haven't posted too much in a short amount of time until the site blocks you from replying again, so go ahead and talk.

But I'm not tired of the forums. I'll take discussions as they come, and talk in random simple threads as I see them. I do wish we had more PlayStation game threads instead of Nintendo games having a near monopoly on game threads, but the site does lean heavily toward a younger demographic, and Nintendo caters almost exclusively to younger gamers these days (unfortunately), so it makes sense.



Anyway, yeah, I think we need to see some more discussions around here for sure. I for one plan to post a few threads geared toward that over the next few days. Here's to hoping we can see some deep discussions come from them.
