I'm sure if any of you are familiar with the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series than you know what I'm talking about. here's a bit of a background story. There has been two games in the series (well, kinda. it's like the regular Pokemon games where they have different versions, but you get what I mean.) Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue/Red Rescue team for the GBA, and Pokemon Mystery dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky for the DS. In both of these games you are transformed into a Pokemon and become a rescue team with your partner.(of choice. :3) You and your partner go into Mystery Dungeons, which are really just dungeons with floor patterns that are randomly generated every time you go to a new floor. As boring as that sounds, the Mystery Dungeon games aren't known for just their game play. The story also plays a big part in the overall games, and it's why most people remember them. Each of the games has a meaningful story that is action packed as well as tragic. Even if that is a bit of a stretch, these games can really make you feel some powerful emotions.

That being said, what are the new games like?

Well there was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and while it still did have a good story overall, it didn't really make us feel the same way the other games made us feel. It just didn't have that charm that made the other two games so great. Course, I've never played the game myself, but through many observations and asking people's opinions, most people didn't enjoy it as much as the GBA or DS versions. Trying not to spoil the plot to much, this game starts out much like the other games, where your turned into a Pokemon. (albeit you get to choose who you want to be instead of answering questions.) you choose your partner and get launched into the Pokemon world. All the rest i know is that your enemy is "Bittercold" (which isn't even a Pokemon by the way, it's a big snowflake..thing) and it's causing bad things for all the Pokemon. That's really all I know about it. All I can really assume is that it sounds a lot like the older games, but it just wasn't executed as well and didn't make people feel things. I guess that it was more focused on kids, and the game makers didn't think kids would be able to handle the kind of situations that were in the older versions. (even though it was one of the first ever games I've played, so I was still very young )

So what can we expect from the new game?

Well already there's been a few changes. For one, they changed the logo from the gates of infinity logo, which was this:

To something more reminisent of the old logo. It looks like this:

(old logo for comparison)

So I guess that's a good start, although it doesn't really affect much. But if you look at the in-game screenshots, you can see a bit of the story:

Although they don't have a screenshot included for it, it turns out that even Legendary Pokemon themselves are being turned to stone. Woah! You know, the mythical Pokemon that can best any regular Pokemon? they aren't safe either. It's this story line that makes me believe that this game could have a lot of potential to be just as good as the originals. There's a lot of paths this could go down. I won't spoil anything, but just think of the possibilities! :3

So, here's to hoping they don't mess this up and make a game everyone will enjoy. As always, what do you think will happen with it? Or, what would you like to see in the game?

Edits tho: I also forgot to put on my article layout and summon people, plese don't kill me ;w;

yoshirulez! : Thanks for the summon again! You and Ginger make a good team

Well, I am one of those people who didn't like the Gates to Infinity game. I didn't play the whole game, but I played the demo and I had a bad impression of it. First of all, you can't skip and/or speed up text, and the text moves as slow as a snail. Second, the dungeons have more of a 3D effect, which isn't bad in itself, but to do that the overview of the room you're in is smaller so it's become harder to navigate. And the intro is weird, I liked asking questions so you could see your personality type (I get the calm type usually and the things that defined that were all character traits I have actually) and not only that, but instead of being sceptic at first your partner immediately believes you when you say you used to be human, which makes the story less logical.

But this game looks promising! The new logo is flashy and I think the plot sounds more interesting, not to mention it looks like the overworld will be less detailed so that the overview will be larger again. I hope this game will be better than its predecessor!

It still sounds like it can be a lot of fun, this is defiently one of the games that I want to play once I save up for a new Ds. I've only played one of them before a really long time ago and like of stopped from there but I'm hopeful for this one.

I don't know really, I mean there were some aspects I liked about Gates to Infinity, like how the only gameplay aspect wasn't exploring dungeons but the story definietly wasn't one of them. And I hate how there was so few Pokemon to choose from to start with.

It could work out, but I'm personally pretty skeptical about the developers being create a story that was as good as the one from Time/Darkness/Sky but I suppose it isn't an impossiblity.

I think it's something I'll keep an eye on but if it comes out and it turns out it's disappointing I'll probably just not pick it up at all and stick to Explorers of Sky if I ever have an urge to play a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game.

juuldude : I mean I'm with you on not liking Gates to Infinity but probably one of the weirdest things if not the weirdest thing about the 4th generation Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games was the intro. I remember being like wtf when I was reading the text and it "analyzed your aura". So weird.

Zlinqx : Well yeah that was pretty strange but I liked the diverse questions and it's funny to mess around and hear 'You're the... angry type. You like to throw a tantrum etc.' and stuff like that. Choosing yourself is maybe better but I like that the choice is made for you.
