Great Irony

He stood there that cold december night, the wind howling, ready to end it all, thinking back to all the events that had transpired the past few months.

His girlfriend of three years had left him for someone else, called him a worthless loser, and made off with all the money in his savings account. He'd been accused of a crime he didn't commit simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and was now losing his dream job because of it and even risking going to jail.

He thought about how cold it was in the air.

It was probably only a matter of time until his landlord finds out he can't pay his rent and he would be evicted and then he would stand there having lost everything he had ever hold dear, everything he had ever cared about.

He awed at how things had so swiftly changed, how his life could transform into a hell on earth so quickly, that life could be so cruel...

He was ready to jump, ready to end his suffering once and for all, but his mind started to wander.

Just a few months ago, he had lived a perfectly normal life, a good life.

He remembers when he first moved into this very apartment complex, a little over a year ago a few months after having gotten his college degree. Just having gotten his dream job as an environmental lawyer and having met the love of his life or so he thought. To think that he never noticed that she was using him... No, deep down he knew he just didn't want to believe it because he loved her... In a way he blames himself for letting her do it he should've seen it coming.

Like that wasn't enough to think that he would be accused of drug dealing when he hadn't even touched drugs his entire life... So many things at once it feels like a cruel joke, something that would only happen in a movie, he almost wished someone would jump out and tell him it was a joke.

Why him? What had he done to deserve this?

His mind kept wandering.

He remembered having told his mom he would pursue his dream job, and now look how things turned out. While her death had saddened him he was glad she wasn't alive to see this.

Part of him is a bit scared, he wishes he could go back to how things were when he was younger, having high ambitions not having to worry and thinking everything is going to work out...

But it doesn't work out, does it?

It's a hopeless situation, how is he even going to get another job, what does he even have to live for?

Except his friends, they are few but they may care... And his brother who he has been ignoring for the past month... What would he think if he found out about this?

He realized he hadn't really considered how his brother would react, could he do something like this him? He had been supportive of him all along he even threw a party for him when he graduated all for him just to suddenly disappear on him now?

Maybe things aren't completely hopeless just very bad, he hadn't actually been convicted of being a drug dealer, so maybe he wouldn't have to go to prison, getting a new job would be difficult but he still has a degree, that's more than what most people have...

Maybe this is all a rough patch?

As his mind wandered he realized that he was trying to talk himself out of it, he was scared, could he even manage to go through with it?

He starts to back away from the edge of the roof

Maybe he wasn't ready to die mayb-

Suddenly he feels something under his heel, a small pebble, it catches him completely off guard and he loses his balance.

He falls.

Before he can even fathom what's going on he's falling head first down from the apartment complex, his body hits the ground, lifeless.

The future of his life eventually decided by something as small and miniscule as a pebble.

How ironic.

As of this post, the submission period has ended. Any submission before this point will count for the competition.

Judging will take between 1-3 days, during which point, there will be no "real" contest for you guys, as I can't update the activity thread until I have the results from this competition.

It will take that long because I have two other judges who need to read all these stories, as well as me. It will take us time to come to a decision.

Scoring will go as such, we will count up all the submissions, and give points based on personal placement.

For example, if there are 20 entries, the top entry will get 20 points from me, the second will get 19, the third 18, and the last, 1. Once all entries have a score, I will total up the points from all the judges (max score of 60), and give the entries placement based on the highest aggregate score.

Good luck to all who submitted an entry.

At this time, I will announce a mini competition that will be good for a few bonus points, to give you something to do, while this is in processing.

The Tour de Vizzed is on, and as much as I loathe the TDV, it has given me the ability to give you something to do for the next few days.

So here's how this will go down, if you want, you can compete in the TDV over the days of the judging. If it's one day of judging, it's one day of competition, if it's three days, then it is three.

For every 5 points you score in the TDV between now and the end of the judging period, you will earn your cabin 10 bonus points to be applied to your score.

For example, if you score 20 points between now and the end of the judging period, you will gain 40 bonus points for your cabin! This may seem like a lot of points, but the early days of the TDV are competitive, so everyone will be trying to compete with you.

You can get points by either posting a lot in quantity, posting a lot of words, or doing site staff type work.

So that's all! Good luck in this mini-competition.

I nominate myself for getting us points in the blue. Who wants to get us points in the CP jerseys? 

Considering what the results were, I'd say me and Zlinqx. Zlinqx placed second in the Green jersey, and I placed 3rd in green and second in red. If we work together on the jerseys, I'm sure that our total will become higher than Bara's.

thing1 : Well I was already planning on going for green, and while at it I can maybe get some points in red as well, so count me in for that.

Well seemingly it looks like we'll keep our 1st place lead so that's a job well done even if there was a few stumbles.



Anyways since this next challenge is all about coming up with a crazy challenge of our own I think it's time we have another meeting so we can discuss ideas, I was thinking on tuesday might be a good time, and if so do you guys think we should have it in Thing1s stream?

Wow, well, I feel like utter crap after that. I expected to get a bad score, but I didn't mean to offend or make anybody angry from that story. I'm really sorry about that, everybody. I probably just made our team look really bad, and I made myself look like a fool in the process. I hope people don't think of me as some kind of  dumb, un-artistic person because of this. I'll try to do better in this next challenge.

And Monday works better for me. Tuesday I'm doing tennis from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM Central Time, but on Monday I'm free. And I'm going to be mostly inactive on vizzed on Wednesday-Sunday since I'm going on a trip with a friend.

Tuesday would work for me. 4 PM server time as usual, right?

If we do it in my stream, it will have to be on Wednesday. My sister is visiting, and is going home on Tuesday, and I work on Tuesdays. Wednesday at 4PM site time will be just fine, though, for me.

That would work for me. Honestly most times should work for me, but having it monday (which is technically today) seems like it may be a bit too soon and I don't know if everyone can make it.

I'd say we should try aiming for 4pm wednesday then.

I guess 4pm will work. But I won't have too much time to discuss everything. lol

Zlinqx : That wouldn't work for me either. The only time I really have is after 3 PM on Tuesday, and today.

Any time works for me, just that you guys might need a bit of reminding me to be in the chatroom.
