The plugin that allows users to fly on their own lots no longer works. I think it's important that users have the ability to fly when they're working on their own structures so I've been thinking about giving all users (or maybe at a cost) the ability to fly.

There'd be a few restrictions to flying which would include not being able to fly fast like an admin, not being able to fly in any other world except the main world and possibly a few others. If we did charge Viz, it'd probably cost somewhere between 10,000 - 25,000 Viz to have this ability.

What do you guys think?

I think this is a good idea. But I think the price might be a bit high. Maybe something like 10,000 Viz and 10 hours on the server or something like that? 

I'd say it's a good idea and I don't see any reason to not give it out for free. I see a few ways the server and the players could benefit from it, and no way for any harm to be done.

thing1 : If I did do this, I'd want it to be something that users really have to earn. I really don't want to give out flight but I'm willing to only because I want users to be able to build whatever they want without any restrictions. I'm actually leaning more toward 25,000 Viz as a price but your idea of making it based on hours spent on the server is kind of interesting.

Maybe we can do 4 prices with each based on the amount of time the user spent on the server:
1-10 hours = 25,000 Viz
10-25 hours = 15,000 Viz
25-50 hours = 5,000 Viz
50+ hours = 0 Viz

This would also help us make sure that not just any user gets it. The users who have invested a lot of time on the server deserve it more than anyone and therefore a discounted Viz price makes the most sense.

Would it be based on what the profile says? Because there's been hundreds of hours before that started recording. I like the idea of being able to fly, I died at least 100 times working on the world trade center and had to give up on it completely after so many deaths.

Frodlex : Not when you need to climb 100-300 blocks up each time. Sure, I wouldn't have to spawn somewhere else if I did that, but each unnecessary fall would still cost at least a minute.

I've been trying to do pixel art recently, and it is really hard and time consuming trying to build it. I feel like it would be best if users could fly, as it stops frustration. And I feel like the price is pretty fair, but I'd keep it more on the 10k side of things as some users just don't have enough Viz for it.

But I really want to be able to fly, it would be pretty cool and really helpful with big structures.

mrfe : If you want, you can go ahead and research plugins that would be good for this. The plugin I'm leaning toward at the moment is MagicCarpet but I haven't read full into it yet. There's another called FlyingCarpet but that doesn't seem as good based on the videos I briefly watched.

zanderlex : I'm confused. So you're saying that crouching won't help you stay alive? But when you're crouching you can't fall unless you jump.

I like the idea that you gave with the price based on time on server. I'd support it. 

I think this is a good idea. I've just spent about an hour working on a pixel art and I couldn't get a lot done.
I'm not really sure why flight speed would be restricted though.

I like the idea as long as it only applies to Vizzed Ville (or any other build only maps). I would hate this in Genrody or Greenerous.

mrfe and I are moving our mini-games to our world, but I do know flight could mess with other people's mini-games. Maybe we'll let them move that to the mini-game world, if the build has enough quality. We'd have to make sure there are no command blocks people would be able to fly up to, but I feel like if we checked the world beforehand, this wouldn't be a problem.

I think having this in Vizzed Ville would be alright. What I wonder is whether it might be better to have this on it's own world. Then again, it is so much more fun to have it for a world that already has a lot of creations to explore.

EideticMemory : I don't think I would have any problem with my maze, whenever I start working on it again, because there is really only enough room to turn left and right. 

But Yeah, I agree with geeo... only in peaceful build worlds only. I don't want to see people flying away from zombies in the hostile survival worlds. 

earthwarrior : I don't really want it to be like the Jetsons where everyone is just whizzing on by in the air at top speeds. It kills the original envision of the server and that actually can lag the server as well. Plus, I'm pretty sure the plugins I'm looking into don't allow that.

EideticMemory : It could also potentially affect any Battle Arena's in the main world. I don't really want to add it to a different world though because the purpose of the main world is to create stuff and the purpose of the flight is to make creating stuff easier.

Here's my thoughts.

We discussed the FlyingCarpet plugin via skype, and agreed it's a bad plugin. The idea of a platform following you around has too many opportunities to fail if the user has lag, and the potential for glitches to ruin awesome builds.

The magic carpet is an updated version of the same plugin.

You might consider this plugin. From what I've seen, it looks very simple and easy to use.

I'd also suggest a creative world, if we can find a plugin that restricts free items. There are two easy ways to abuse this, that I know of, which are ender chests and dying to TP to a different world. It's a simple matter to make the world TP's clear a person's inventory, but ender chests and such are a different matter. Still, I feel like a creative world would bring activity to the server, but only if we can restrict ender chests.

mrfe : I'm not so sure that can be limited to a single world. Maybe you could find out.

I really think that flight could be useful. I would want to build a Cathedral sometime... But, that would be immensly hard, especially when it comes to making the roof. 

Also, if flight were used in the Vizzed Vile, it would make it easier for people to find their way back to the house.... At least that's my two cents worth.

Just throwing this out there;

The entire point of this Vizzed Minecraft thing that you're doing is creativity, right? Taking away the flight option - for anyone - effectively defeats a lot of that purpose. I can't even say that I understand why you don't want people to have it. I read your reasoning and I still can't put any stock behind it. That being said, if you are ever so insistent on the costs:

I think if you do it by hour, 10k+ is too much to charge. I only have 45k to begin with and the only reason I'd get into the server is for the creativity (as well as a lot of other users, who are currently already being restricted by the requirement to have a legit copy of the game on the PC).

You have a ton of control over who plays, how they play, what they have available to use, etc. I think restricting flight so severely - on top of all the other restrictions that you have - is a little overkill. To each their own, though.

For the mini-games and things like that;
You already have it programmed to limit people on where they can build (unless I'm mistaken and you just do that based on honor and reports). You could simply enable a toggle for people within a certain boundary that blocks flight. With everything else you've programmed, it shouldn't be too difficult for you to program that in. You've already got the territory side of things worked out.

Doing this, you could also (easily) enable/disable flight in zones, rather than trying to use an external program to control it, like the carpet plugins
