On June 3rd, 1986, Nintendo released a game known as Balloon Fight for the NES in North America. Many years later, it became the first game to be released for the Wii U virtual console.. Was it worthy of such an honor? I don't know, but what I do know is that I'm going to make this the 1st NES game I've reviewed on vizzed.
Graphics: 6/10 For a game made in the mid 1980's, Balloon Fight is a good looking game. The game has decent character designs, though the background is very bland. It's basically just a night sky, so there isn't much there visually. Fortunately, the characters have a good variety of color so that's a plus. Overall, Balloon Fight's graphics are mediocre even for it's time, so I'm giving the graphics a 6.
Sound: 7/10 Balloon Fight has a a decent soundtrack, though there isn't a wide variety of music in the game. The main theme is very catchy and memorable. Other than that though, none of the other music in the game is very memorable, so I'm giving the sound a 7.
Addictiveness: 8/10 Balloon Fight is one of many addicting arcade style games for the nes. Popping enemies balloons and watching them fall into the water or into the mouth of the fish is very satisfying. The Balloon Trip mode is also addicting but I'll get in the depth segment of this review. While there are more addicting nes games out there such as Super Mario Bros, this game's addicting enough for me to give the addictiveness an 8.
Story: N/A Balloon Fight does not have a story, therefore, I'm leaving this category blank.
Depth: 5/10 Balloon Fight has 3 game modes to choose from: single player which is where you pop your enemies balloons to move onto the next level, 2 player mode which is multiplayer of course, and Balloon Trip, which is where you must fly as far as you can and collect balloons without hitting any of the electric dots. If you hit a dot, it's game over. These are the only game modes available, so I'm giving the depth a 5.
Difficulty: 7/10 Balloon Fight can be a tough game, especially in the Balloon Trip mode where you try to avoid those annoying electric dots. Also in the single player mode, the more levels you complete, the tougher it'll get to avoid keeping you balloons from getting popped by enemies. Since this game can get very tricky at times, I'm giving the difficulty a 7.
Overall Score: 7/10 Balloon Fight is an enjoyable NES game. It's extremely addicting, it'll provide you with a challenge, and the main theme music is very catchy, though it would've been nice to hear more great tunes. Graphically, the game could've been better and there could've been a few more game modes, but overall, Balloon Fight is a fun game that'll make you want to keep playing and make you want to try and get the high score. For these reasons, I've decided to give Balloon Fight a 7 out of 10. Even though this was one of my shorter reviews, I hope you enjoyed reading it nevertheless.
