i'm writing this for my school paper, thought i'd share it with you guys. it is NOT plagarised, i copied the console list from wikipedia and kind of took a bit of my ideas from wikipedia, but i did NOT steal someone's work. i can take it down if you consider it plagarism.

The Video Game Crash Of 1983, A Cause And Effect Paper By noahs_brother

The video game crash of 1983 was a
massive recession of the video game industry that occurred from 1983 to 1985.
Revenues had peaked at about $3.2
billion in early 1983, only to drop to about $100 million dollars in 1985, a
drop of almost 96 percent. It led the end of what was considered the second
generation of gaming. It lasted about two years, and there was several reasons
for the crash, which I will list down below.
                                 CAUSE
OVER-SATURATION OF THE MARKET

Over-saturation of the market was one of the factors that
led to the crash. There were just so many game consoles, such as;
Atari 2600, theAtari
5200, the Bally
Astrocade, theColecoVision, theColeco
Gemini(a 2600
clone), theEmerson Arcadia 2001, theFairchild Channel F System II, theMagnavox
Odyssey 2, theMattelIntellivision(and its just-released update with several
peripherals, theIntellivision
II),  theSearsTele-Games systems (private-labeled versions made by Atari (2600) and Mattel
(Intellivision)),  the Tandyvision (an Intellivision clone for Radio
Shack) and the Vectrex.
There were just too many
horrible copies and dupes of consoles, and just too many in general, original
consoles or not. This led to not enough space in video game stores, and lots of
the stores tried to send back the games, but the companies were already going
broke, because the consoles just weren’t selling, making it so the stores lost
mass profit.

HIGH PROFILE FAILURES
Another major cause of the
crash were high profile failures. 2 such examples are;
Pac-Man, re-released for the Atari 2600. This
game was rushed for Christmas of 1982, which caused it to have basically NO
quality testing or control. It was buggy, the controls were horrible, and the
music hurt your ears.
Another major failure was
E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial, a game made also rushed for Christmas of 1982,
which had the same basic failures of Pac-Man up here. BUT, they spent millions
of dollars for licensing, and it sold so poorly, they buried the unsold copies
in a landfill in New Mexico.
COMPETITION FROM HOME PC’S

Another reason for the
crash was crazy competition from home computers. People’s mindset was, “Hey,
they have better graphics, and a computer you can play games on AND prepare for
a job on one!” so there was a mass exodus over to home computers, such as the
commodore 64, apple II, and the like. Until those failed as well. It was just a
matter of time until they lost popularity as well.

  EFFECT
          MASSIVE INDUSTRY SHAKEOUT

Because the stores could
not send back the games. They lost a lot of profit. This led to them selling
games in bargain bins. For instance, a newly released game could be sold in a
bargain bin for $5, when it normally was $35.

this is all i have wrote so far, what do you think?

Twas a dark age... nearly the end of ages in fact. Then Nintendo started putting something called THOUGHT into these kinds of games, showing people the full potential of a video game. It brought in a new age after a great extinction, and life seemed prosperous.

And Sega came being all epic trying to put down Nintendo so they were at it for a bit, and it ignited the bit wars (what IS a bit!?) and around the 64 bit mark Atari fell under because of the Jaguar, and I don't even know what happened with the Dreamcast. N64 started going great, no competition, when Sony goes suggesting Nintendo a Playstation to use as a new console, but they reject it so Sony just publishes themselves, became a huge hit, Microsoft went in at some point, the rest is history.

So yeah, going great so far, but I guess I have to nitpick something...

You... umm... didn't put spaces between console names. 5/10 -U.NO.HU.

Well I'm sure it's more than that but SOMEONE will point a fault sooner or later, keep up the pace
