The Creeper.

Created by Notch accidentally while trying to program a pig.

I was on a server one day and thinking about the difficulty about Minecraft, and how I enjoy the combat aspect much more than I do other games, and, after thinking about it, I realized why I enjoyed fighting in this game so much.

I wasn't because the act of attacking enemies in itself was fun, but because of the difficulty in the challenge. So to speak. Minecraft isn't a very forgiving game.

Go around during the night just to chop down a few trees, and then BOOM! A creeper get's you.

But it's exactly this sudden, "Under attack!" feeling of which you can lose everything in a few moments of subtle execution.

But, these feelings are appreciated, it adds a layer of depth to combat that otherwise may be missing From the game of Minecraft. Zombies are easy, and Skeletons can probe. But the Creeper. . . . .completes it. .

He forces you to always be aware, not getting to distracted in attacking other mobs, and can make you pay with your life easily. . .

If you're not paying attention.

I've though about what Minecraft would be like without the creeper.

All to easy. Armor set, and ready to go, it's a brisk walk into the evening.

But not with the Creeper about.

As of such, though quite a few people may not like the Creeper, I do, it's the perfect enemy for the perfect game.

I have to agree.  While the Creeper can be insanely frustrating at times, it does add an element of suspense at night, making night time travel dangerous, and keeping you on edge.

Another thing that I feel adds some suspense to the game is when you are down in some cave system, spelunking.  Where you have to watch for those tell tale signs that you are about to dig your way into something dangerous.  The next swing of your pick could easily break into an underground lake, or lava flow.  And as you said in your original post, the Creeper is an always looming threat.  Especially when you're exploring an unfamiliar cave system with nowhere to run.

I personally like the creeper, but for a different reason.

Whenever I play on XBOX 360, and I go out at night, there always seems to be a mob after a few minutes. Well, I just run away until I find a creeper, and then I use that creeper to blow up the mob that is chasing me.

BOOM!!! Problem solved.

without the creeper the game has absolutely no challenge.

Zombies are too easy unless you're in a small space and you get the zombie aggro going. Even then though they aren't too dangerous.

Skeletons can be kited to the right spot and easily taken out.

Creepers on the other hand can come out of nowhere and take you out in a heartbeat (with no armor on). Even if you don't die it does give a bit of a kick of excitement when it happens and then other mobs start attacking.

I don't know if I would enjoy MC without them. I probably would but surviving nights wouldn't be the same.

Skeletons I can actually fear a lot on a laggy server, (though it's mostly my own ping's fault.) :V

But I do agree with geeogree. The creeper does add so much to the game that I may not enjoy it enough without it. XD

Well, their is only one thing that the Creeper represent in the world of Minecraft, Minecraft wouldn't be Minecraft without the famous Creeper, but the Creeper are the mobs that cause havoc in your Minecraft world though. So that's the reality of the value of the Creeper, it's priceless

Creepus Explodus.

It does represent anything in folklore or those scary stories. Unlike skeletons and zombies they don't represent dead humans, either, and they can't even pick up armor, but they don't burn in the light. Since they don't burn, there is more creepers in the day as each night passes, so as the game progresses, you're forced to become more aware. Sometimes to the point where you can't chop down a tree without hearing the horrific hiss. It isn't a reference to anything, like the Enderman is, and it's a very unique species. It has no visible weapon, but underneath in it's skeleton, TNT lays. It's like a bee, committing suicide just to hurt someone.

It's always frowning, as if it's scared. It even is pretty cute. And that's what fools curious newcomers. Once they approach it in hopes of seeing how it reacts, they can't react. They're already blown to bits. We're lucky that if we die, we don't lose our account. Otherwise the creeper would be unforgivable. And thing is, it's the most dangerous out of nearly all the mobs, not including bosses. Even if it doesn't kill you, it's sure to make you jump when you hear that all-to-short warning fuse.

Minecraft wouldn't be the same without the creeper. I think most Minecraft fans can agree with that. Surviving the night wouldn't leave you as frustrated or aware of your surroundings. That's why I like the creeper so much. But that doesn't stop me from killing it if it tries to take my life, of course.

I would hate Minecraft without this challenging Mob. The Creeper is one of the coolest mobs out there... I'm guessing were not mentioning Nether Realm mobs, but even when bringing those up, they are not nearly as effective as Creepers!

If the Creeper wouldn't exist, it would almost be permanent Creative mode...

Not to mention that it has a REALLY effective drop! The Gunpowder is one of the best mining materials ever!

I've never been scared of him, because I usually can get out of his explosion radius in time, but I haven't run into a charged one yet.

Yeah, I agree, it kicks in all of your survival instincts when you're out and about, it can lead o a very thrilling adventure where you always have to look around and be on guard and that makes the game a lot more fun than just zombies and Skeletons and such.
