/"/' S.T.A.R.S, the regional team mostly known for an incident that occurred in the arklay mountains in which each of the 5 members after having crashed their  chopper and been pursued by mutated animals, flesh-eating monsters, and spiders they had decided upon rushing inside a nearby mansion. We've all heard and seen this  story unfold before but did you ever wonder...what could've possibly occurred before this incident took place...what horrible tragedy happened before these heroes ran for  their lives from the foggy and dense forest. Just like history it repeats itself; but, now we're falling back in time in order to find out the story before the tragic event of the 5 members near death experience. During a dark moment in history an Umbrella scientist was working on a new virus to test out; however, at the time of completion the scientist was brutally murdered by a co-worker and certain S.T.A.R.S member, taking over the lab and controlling it from the inside.
We end up skipping forward a tiny bit to find a crew of S.T.A.R.S dispatchers sent to investigate a strange occurrence leading to a train that has been infected by some  strange creatures leaving the newest recruit, Rebecca Chambers, momentarily helpless until she comes in contact with rebel on the run Billy Cohen. Putting aside the facts  that he's a criminal in her eyes and not knowing what's going on they plan on staying together....but one thing that can't be forgotten....what happened in this story to branch  off the one we know and love? Will they make it out of here alive? or will they soon become food for leaches to feast upon? |_Sonic_| --____-^--_ ~ Fine *Equips Quillgun* I.t.s T.I.M.E t.o.          ~~Looking across first class area, with shivers at the sights of death~~

As you walk towards each passing seat while having your hand always at your holsters side, quaking with fear when the moment arrives that the flesh eating monsters start rushing for yourself. Searching for even a single sign of life in this crash, desolated area, and many others...only to find these undead monsters everywhere; but, I'm sure these words aren't proving enough things for you so how about I describe it for you in better detail by talking about some areas in this game.

      ~ Crashed Train~

Deciding to investigate this abandoned train mobile, after having crash landed in the Arklay Mountains, our protagonist decides to enter the molded over and corpse infested party corridors as well as seats. Quickly rushing between the Second-Class area to the deadly and more dangerous first class area hoping you don't trip over a service cart, and trust me you don't even want to meet the concierge desk on this train...talk about bloodthirsty hogs. When you traverse through this vehicle you'll run into all sorts of enemies and even see some gruesome details about your partners of the S.T.A.R.S team that you were accompanied with. Between the horribly trashed dining area to the frightening and horrific new "Leech Zombies" I'm sure this area will leave you with twisted stomach.

      ~ Mansion ~

After the incident from above the now 2 protagonist characters head towards this mansion in hope to find out what is causing this outbreak to happen in order to put it to a halting stop; however, just as they arrive in this building they find it's no different from the infested express train they just escaped from. In fact it seems to be even worse with Zombies around every corner and as they run through the Mansion they must face off against all sorts of creatures between mutated and ravenous insects to insane primates that have been infected due to testing at the facilities that this company is well known for. One thing we can't seem to figure out is how could the virus have spread to this mansion as well as the area mentioned above and where exactly is the owner of this estate...if they're still alive that is..let's just hope we don't become spider bait for this place.
This games atmosphere and graphical design most definitely lives up to the "Resident Evil" name with the visual scenery and gameplay just complementing each other so very well. Of course this game may not be as haunting as games released these days (graphics wise) but we must take a look during it's time period to be fair so I'd have to say for a game being made in late 2002 it's probably the best looking game of all the series at this point ESPECIALLY the cutscenes. So without feasting upon your reading minds too much I'll leave my score for the graphics of a 9 out of 10. As the characters/levels/and cutscenes are all fluent and well done!

~ Sounds of reminiscent fears and shivers ~

If the original games terrified you with their musical hues and spastic changes then you'll definitely be in for a treat on this game as it hasn't lost one bloody luster that it gained back in the 90's. Though the series before this point was heavily criticized for it's voice acting and physical animations during cutscenes, Resident Evil 0 definitely  makes up for that lack of ability during the original series creation; but, if you're a fan of the old school music from the RE games then you won't be disappointed by the soundtrack in here as it well than lives up to its marks of the predecessors. Then again talk is cheap and something we can't spare in these moments so how about we discuss some examples of what I mean.

     ~ CUTSCENES ~

From the early PS1 days to now we all know that the animations weren't that great but yet the cutscenes were ahead of their time though only lasting for a few seconds at a time so it wasn't really much to keep people from looking down upon for the most part the gameplay graphics. This game however manages to leave space for CGI cutscenes and keep that similar style throughout most of the gameplay sections as well, for example early into the game when you're investigating the train you get attacked by a specific zombie and you see it get all up on you about to feast on you and then BAM!  All of them are gone with an actually pretty nice gunshot sound and effect and the sounds that your character makes in terror about being killed is let's just say a lot better than "Run JILL.........*does nothing* ..... *zombie gets shot*" The characters models for the most part actually moves fluently when they speak and the voice acting is superb in this game with some of my favorite lines being "So...you've heard about me....been fantasizing about me have you?" and "Don't call me little girl! ...Ok Ms. Do-it-yourself, what should I call you then?" So looking at the cutscene discussions and looks let's move on now shall we?

     ~ Music and Sound ~

The feeling of fear and death with each corner you step around, the feeling you get when you finally reach a place to rest after being onslaughted by relentless barrages of enemies, this is the pulsating thrill you get from the survival horror found in this story. In my eyes music and sound can be a very good platform for a game to reach an amazing scale alongside becoming highly addictive so I think it'll be fair if I share some opinions on what songs might be a good look-into plan.

/_ ~ Mansion theme ~ /_ - Taking place mostly around the main course of the game this place's music is very chilling and has certain spots almost similar to a silenced gunshot or a boxed item breaking, after having stop an occurrence then being thrown into such a creepy atmosphere definitely sets the mood straight like if it's just  yelling at you "Sorry...but this nightmare..isn't over yet!" as if the boxes contents shattering is symbolizing your own broken up hope for survival in this place. It's certainly one of the most chilling themes from the classic RE style of games.

/! /!! !! Stop The Train !! /! /! - Probably one of my most favorite themes of all the RE games new and old, as the title most likely gives you an idea to where and what takes place at this scene, for some reason the train has gained speed and the breaks aren't working so you both need to rush and fix the program with an almost tear wrenching and rush for your life type tone. Keeping in mind that while you run around to find the break rooms you must defend yourself from zombie madness everywhere also if that wasn't enough you're put on a time limit, even once you get there you must find out a certain pattern of numbers in order to activate the brakes with the time ticking down on your life.  Very nice and kind of strange to describe but definitely worth a viewing.

    |=== Save Room ===| ~ A lot of us have come to love this exact theme in the series for either its enticing/relaxing or still fearful as you hide in this room to calm down or save the information you've done so far. Though, this one isn't exactly one of the better save room themes this still does beat some later games in the genre. The problem is that you can obviously tell the sound loops and repeats too quickly but still has a peaceful and calming theme as you pick up equipment and heal yourself here while you do anything else you need before heading out into the survival nightmare again behind that door. Not one of the best but certainly still a good theme to listen to when you're tired and feel dangered.

Following the music with my S.T.A.Rbumps appearing all over my arms from hearing and talking about the music and themes from this game, we've already talked a little about the sound effects so my score for here is a 9 out of 10

(|)  New kind of style, New change of pace, Same flesh-ripping horror! (|)

The year is 1996 and horror was still a common occurrence among games and movies yet the games never really seemed to horrifying of an experience for us back then so we didn't really have a huge sense of fear until....that exact year when a game known as "Resident Evil" was sent out giving us a new experience of gaming...it brought us to a new field and became an instant classic and perfect example for horror on future video games. After having 4 games out on the market with high success in 2002 it was decided they would take the story back to the past before everything for a new platform; although, keeping that same creepy style as the original and the only question that remained is how would it work out? That's where we being our trip into the past, before the meat-eating bash of Raccoon City, and a familiar face to viewers from the original 96' game "Rebecca Chambers" to which she's really a rookie medic to the S.T.A.R.S team and the game puts her into another terrifying nightmare (well technically first if you're going storywise).
I know this may sound strange to hear me say this if you are only familiar with the new games but I love the partnership system in this game as it actually works amazingly well (sorry RE4~XXX) since you can switch to whomever you want whenever you want and the other one will automatically follow you and I believe will also be on attack mode too so it's nice and fitting for someone who's supposedly a police member. It can also be interesting for puzzles as well because you have to think of what you should do and if switching would be a great option, like if you wanted to pick up a key as Billy but have it as Rebecca you can use a dumbwaiter to send it down and back up if an item is needed in returned.

The music and graphics also give this game a great atmosphere and big addictiveness value and if you don't get what I mean you can check these sections once more for examples like the voice acting and songs used in certain areas. What makes this game truly addictive besides the gameplay will be a part that I'll describe in the next section. Truly the gameplay is just so very similar to the classic RE games but sparking it up a lot with looks and feeling in return though still giving the same flair and worry about entering a room without having enough ammo for all the enemies you'll meet up with. I don't want to spoil everything. I'll tell here and now if you enjoy this series this won't be a disappointment which means the addictiveness earns a 8 out of 10 for me.

     {A rookie's new adventure into horror, as the truth from the past unfolds upon the Mansion incident}

Akrlay Mountain Mansion Incident....something each and every one of us members remember quite well, when 5 innocent members get thrown into a ravenous hell of  enemies and death always being so very near. Yet we never really hear even one scope on what could've happened before this whole plan of going in to investigate this place occurred, which is why we must travel into the past when one S.T.A.R.S Alpha' team member Rebecca Chambers discusses her story of the incident that occurred on Sheena Island when she was still a newbie officer at the department. Shortly after having crash landed due to some mysterious force, Rebecca, all alone decides to investigate an abandoned express train looking for any life that she might save or get information out from. This leads to her almost untimely demise when she's attacked by a "Leech Zombie" when out of the blue a man by the name of Billy Cohen decides to tear the foul maggot apart in order to assist Rebecca; although, Billy is a felon and she doesn't trust him very much and threatens to shoot him if he does anything silly.
Partnered through an unmutual friendship these two run their way through this area to find an escape route in order to safely escape from the death that surrounds them, after an unwelcomed stop in their plan they arrive at a Mansion created by Umbrella and know that this is where the real journey begins...the only question that remains is....will they make it out and stop this madness or will they just become a "star" quality meat for these monsters? This is all I will say for the storyline of the game as I'm sure if you try this game out it'll be one to hook you on from the get-go which leaves my rating as a 10 out of 10"

[Enough depth and adventure to feast your mind and heart upon]

Resident Evil 0 definitely has a lot of interesting figures about itself so far right? The music is well done, the story is airtight, and the gameplay is spot-on but what happens to the amount of quality when transitioning to this reminiscent past? Unlike your life force after being attacked by those mutated creatures, it doesn't diminish one bit and continues to give you that creepy feel no matter how long you play for. One thing I will say is that this game is actually quite longer than Resident Evil 2 which I said in a previous moment that it could be beaten in only 2 1/2 hours which doesn't seem to be that long but for the time period it was great since the action was still invigorating as well as just giving us such a unique and special story, and this game does just the same but this time they've up the playability meaning the game at its fastest can be beaten in around 7 hours; almost, 3 times as much as the previous title said above. There are I believe 4 or 5 sections that you'll have to run through in the game so it's definitely got a lot of room to adventure and take in the atmosphere, you know what though why don't you fellow members listen to some other details about this game here, specifically some of the extras that might await you in this game.
When you're on the train segment you'll run into a man by the name Edward whom works at the S.T.A.R.S force but has been greatly injured and is on the edge of death and once he dies right next to you and the zombie dogs bash through the window normally this is the last you'll ever see of him; however, if you leave and after a short time go further back on the train from where he died and you'll notice he's turned into a zombie. This doesn't really grant you anything from killing him though like in other games of the series so it's just a nice thing to see if you wonder what happens. Finally the only thing left to talk about is the "Leech Hunter" game mode which can be unlocked from beating the game one time and selecting the "Extra" mode when you load up the file. Once you begin the game it's all about collecting as many leaches as you can to which each member can carry 10 in one inventory space and there are 100 leeches some in Green and others in blue Blue (Billy can only pick up green, and  Rebecca can only pick up blue) the main thing that you'll do when playing this game is trying to collect as many of these things as you can before you leave and it tally's up your score. What can be earned from this are different weapons or cheats to help you out such as: A magnum for 90~99 leaches that you've found which is the most powerful gun in the game and will usually kill anything in 1 shot; BUT, the gun only has 5 rounds so don't go crazy on it if you only intend to get 90 leeches.
You can also earn unlimited ammo for some weapons depend on how much you earn "30~59 = Handguns, 60~89 = Hunting Gun (Shotgun) and lastly if you get all  100 then you'll have infinite ammo for every single gun. Though I don't really enjoy either of those cheats besides the Magnum get, as I feel it takes away that chilling feeling  when you look into your pockets and see: "Oh I only have 20 bullets left and 5 enemies ahead of me, I need to converse this and be weary or I could die". I personally feel this is what you SHOULD feel in these games since it's a survival horror but to each their own and my own score for the depth will be an 8 out of 10.

~-_v-~ Surviving with limited resources and the same fear experiences almost 10 years ago ~-_v_-~

*Take quillgun and shoots down RE4~RE XXXX* If you're new to this series and have plays 4 and beyond then you'll need to reconsider your actions on thinking that this series was all shooter and easy to beat. *slaps down game box* This should treat you to what I mean, being scared when going across every corner as the camera slowly follows you around each room changing perspectives of an area every one in a while, hoping that you'll have enough ammunition to take care of everything alongside your diminishing health at the hands of those vile beasts. This takes me back to when games were difficult by their fair means and are mastered by using skill and logical thinking on how to handle certain situations between your ammo and your health both at risk on what you choose. But the slice on the human cake that really can devastate you  throughout your adventure is the Leech Zombies mentioned OH so many times by now, why do I even bother mentioning them that much? If only you knew from playing the game how bad it can be, depending on what mode you played this game on whenever you're attacked by these monsters you can die from 6~3 hits depending on what level of difficulty you play this on, and since they have a very huge range on their attacks it won't be easy to defeat them...and even if you do make sure you can run away as they'll try to explode on you causing you damage. Many people would complain about the camera angles here however I actually really enjoyed this style in the series as it added to the horror's of the game, if you want a harder game in the series then try this one out meaning the score is 8 out of 10

...We're now stepping towards the end of this journey, having reached the final enemy and it's time to defeat this horrible nightmare and make it through alive. What will happen to Rebecca and Billy Cohen...can they truly survive this horror or will the truth from the past just be completely forgotten and left out...Guess that's only something you can find out by trying rookie followers...be safe and be well I'm going to take down this Queenie! *Holds out Quillgun* Hey! Why don't you feast on this ugly monster! *gunshot sound* .....|_Sonic_| --__---^___---_Danger!

     {A rookie's new adventure into horror, as the truth from the past unfolds upon the Mansion incident}

*gunshot sound* .....|_Sonic_| --__---^___---_Danger!

sonicthehedgehog57 : Yeah, I do not think that would be too bad. I'd like to see just how you make them so long! You really have dwarfed my thousand word reviews, the longest I ever pulled was a little over 2000, and that was based on a disc with three Metroid Prime games on it!

This is an awesome review. It was packed to the brim with detail and you covered just about every notable part or the game.

This was one of my first horror games, actually. It managed to balance both scariness and fun effectively, unlike some later installments (cough cough, RE5, cough cough).

Ah Resident Evil where do I even start with this iconic, and amazing series. I don't even know if I could give this series justice really. This series is so amazing I mean seriously, the feeling of dread the first few games have giving me was legendary. This ranks with Silent hill to me in creepiness. This series brings back so many memories, from laughter, to pure fear, and agitation. This particular game had one of if not my favorite character in it, Billy Coen, such an amazing character, it's truly sad though that Capcom threw him under the bus, as well as the hot Rebecca Chambers, hopefully some day, and I mean some day soon they will decide to bring these two wonderful and iconic characters back in a game or two.I really think Capcom should really start showing love for the lesser more obscure characters in the Resident Evil lore. Now on to the game. The music in this game, is simply amazing, pure eeriness at it's finest, I remember there was a few sleepless nights back in the day when I used to play this game, in the dark, at night, and with surround sound. The game play, is another amazing feat, it's simple, and subtle, but yet at the same time ingenious, nothing to complicated, while this is the first game to feature a partner system, which became quite controversial in the series to come. Me personally at least for this game it was truly a masterpiece, and very well done. The next thing that I adored about this game, was the character development, as I stated before pure ingenious, on the character development here, you could really get behind each, and every character in this game whether it be a protagonist, or an antagonist. The next feature was the graphics, for the time period this was offered in, the graphics were pure beauty, I mean even still today these graphics could compare to some of the games offered today. Another thing of brilliance was and is the plot of this particular game this game had one amazing story, it was one of my favorite Resident Evil stories in the franchise, and one of my all time favorite as a whole. If Capcom could make games like this one, they wouldn't be in trouble today. Sadly they lost something along the way, because the first few Resident Evil games were things of legendary nature, but the one's today not so much, fun, but still not the same.
