Hey guys. I'm back with another review. This time I'm going to review Dig-Dug for the Famicom Disk System. Let's go ahead and start!

Intro: A simple and fun game

After I have played this game for a while (and I've also played it a long time ago before), the first thing that came up to my mind was that this game is "Simply fun".

The main reason it is "Simply fun" is because the objective of the game is really simple and yet it's a fun game. There are also a lot of retro games out there that are also simple and fun. (Pac-man, Mappy, Galaga.. etc, duh) All you have to do is to just eliminate all monsters in the level to move on to the next level. To do that, just press the "fire" button to shoot a little gun that will inflate your enemies and continually tap the fire button until your enemy explodes. However, be careful not to touch your enemies or you'll lose a life.

You play as the guy dressed in white and blue who can dig through the ground and fill his enemies with air. You're enemies are the monsters in the level. (The weird tomato looking guy with goggles on and the green dragon who can shoot fire while his wings glow). Now, let's dive into more details about this game.

Graphics: 7

Well, just like how the game itself is simple, I'd say that the graphics look pretty simple as well. However, the graphics aren't really that bad. Just a black background with the 2nd ground showing layers underground in different colors. It starts out with a slight color of yellow, then turns orange and turns more orange-ish as you move down the layers underground. In future levels, there will also be light blue and green. You can basically see all of this in the screenshots.

As for the characters, there aren't much details shown but it's fine. The character you play as is just in the white and blue suit. As for your enemies, there is a tomato looking guy who keeps hoping around with goggles on and there is a green dragon with wings. So, overall for the graphics, I'd say simple, dull, but relaxing and alright.

Sound: 8

Very clever and entertaining sound effects. Not to sound repetitive, but that's pretty simple as well. XD

So, when you start the game, a short sound track will play at the beginning of the game before you begin the level. It's very fitting and entertaining. It would bring a retro gamer to excitement before starting the game.

As you run, a little sound track will play. That sound track that plays while you run just helps you to focus on the game. It also makes the game somewhat dramatic in a way and it makes the player look like he is really fighting those monsters as he's running in a somewhat awkward but entertaining way.

When you stand still, there will be a few high pitched sound effects that I find somewhat annoying. It makes it sound like the monsters are running around and it just encourages you to keep running to avoid them.

There is also sound effects of when you shoot and inflate your enemies. And lastly, there is a little sound track that plays when you complete a level. That sound tracks makes you sound like "Oh, just finished another level.".

Addictiveness: 9

Very, very, VERY addictive game. This is actually one of the main reasons on why I reviewed this game. I just kept playing it (and I've played it a long time ago many times actually) to the point that I just wanted to review this one.

What makes the game addictive is the fact that you would want to continually inflate and defeat monsters and just keep moving on to the next level. I just find it fun which makes it addictive for me. You just want to keep trying to go farther in the levels after each attempt and for others, try to get the highest score possible and beat your high scores.

Story: N/A

Uhh... To be honest, I have no idea what the story for this game is. And the game doesn't really leave any hints about the story. And I don't think I should assume or make up a story in a review. Soooo..... I'm just gonna leave that alone. Sorry.

Depth: 9

There aren't really any special options or anything like that. However, there is a 2 player mode that goes by separate turns, which isn't very fun in my opinion. (I would be a lot more fun if both players can just play at the same time in the same level at co-op mode but unfortunately that's not in this game.)

However, one thing that contributes to making this game addictive is that there are many levels, each level has different layouts of where the monsters and rocks are and the amount of monsters in the level increases as you go on. This also helps in making the game addicting since you're just looking forward to beating the next level!

Difficulty: 9

The game may seen pretty easy at first to most players, however, as you go on through the levels, there are more monsters. These monsters get faster and faster as you go on! Within the 3rd or 4th level, they might start getting faster than you! You will also notice an increase in green dragons, and they're more tougher than the tomato looking monsters because they're faster and can shoot fire out of their mouths when their wings start glowing white.

So, out-running them will eventually not be an option. You MUST inflate them as your only way of escape. However, if they all gather in a group around you, you're toast because you CAN'T out-run them and you CAN'T inflate more than one monster at a time! Be sure to avoid going near a huge group of fast monsters. This is basically the main trick that your enemies will use to defeat you and it happens more often in future levels.

OVERALL: 8.7

Definitely a game worth trying out. Thanks for reading this review. Feedback appreciated!
