Hello Vizzed! I am tgags123, the creator of Pokemon Ultimate Ruby. I will be making a walkthrough of Pokemon Ultimate Ruby to help you out. I can guarantee that this walkthrough is completely accurate, since I am the one that made the game. Just a heads up, this will be boring. I only recommend reading this if you need help with the game, it isn't exactly something you would want to read for fun. Also, I will be doing this walkthrough in the same format as the one that I made for Pokemon Aquamarine, just because that format seemed to work well.

1. Introduction

Starter Town

Once you get off of the moving truck, you arrive in a town called Starter Town. There is a reason that it is called that, and I will get to in it a little bit. Once you get off of the truck, your mom will tell you that you have arrived at your new home, and she will ask you to set your clock. Go up the stairs in the top right corner and set your clock. If you go up to the computer on the left of your room, you can get a potion by clicking "Withdraw Items". If you chose the male character, you will notice that there is a patch of grass in the lower right hand corner. If you walk in that grass wild Pokemon will appear, so do not go there until you have a Pokemon. Once you set your clock you will be allowed to go back downstairs. Your mom will tell you to go watch TV. She will say that your father (yes, you actually have a father in this game!) was on the TV, but you missed him. Then she will tell you to go to the house next door. When you go into that house, a woman will meet you and tell you that her child is up stairs. Go up stairs and talk to whoever is there. It will be May if you chose the male character, and Brendan if you chose the female character. Once they are finished talking to you, you are going to head to the route north of Starter Town. When you try to leave the town, a girl will tell you that someone is in trouble and ask you to help. You will see Professor Birch being attacked by a wild Pokemon! He will tell you to help him, and to chose a Pokemon from his bag to fend off the wild Pokemon with. Your choices are...

Bulbasaur - Grass and Poison
Base Stats:
HP - 45
Attack - 49
Defense - 49
Sp. Atk. - 65
Sp. Def. - 65
Speed - 45
Total - 318
If you choose Bulbasaur, your rival will choose Torchic.

Charmander - Fire
Base Stats:
HP - 39
Attack - 52
Defense - 43
Sp. Atk. - 60
Sp. Def. - 50
Speed - 65
Total - 309
If you choose Charmander, your rival will choose Mudkip.

Squirtle - Water
Base Stats:
HP - 44
Attack - 48
Defense - 65
Sp. Atk. - 50
Sp. Def. - 64
Speed - 43
Total - 314
If you choose Squirtle, your rival will choose Treecko.

After you chose who you want your starter Pokemon to be, you will battle the Pokemon that is attacking the Professor. Usually it is a Poochyena, but it could be a Zigzagoon as well. After you win and save Professor Birch, he will ask you to come back to his lab with him. He will thank you and tell you that you can keep the Pokemon that you chose. He will ask you to meet either May or Brendan (depending on who you chose as your character) at Route 103. Then you are free to leave the lab and start with your adventure. You can now go into the patch of grass in your room, as well as the grass in Starter Town, so I will tell you what can be found in the grass.

Oldale Town is kind of like a rest stop. It serves no purpose other than giving you a chance you heal your Pokemon or buy some items if you need to. You can also catch some new Pokemon to give your team an upgrade once you are able to buy Pokeballs. When you are ready to continue, keep going north up to Route 3.

Route 3

Sharpedo level 30-35

Go as far north as it will allow you to go and you will see either May or Brendan. Walk up to them and press "A" (or whatever key you have set to "A") to talk to them. You will then engage in a battle with them! The battle should be pretty easy to win. I win almost every time just by using the attack that does damage. Remember that if you start to get low on HP, you have that Potion that you took from the computer in your room. After you win, your rival will go back to the lab and you will follow them. When you get back, Professor Birch will give you a Pokedex! Your rival will also give you 5 Pokeballs to catch Pokemon with, and you will be able to buy Pokeballs from Pokemarts now. (For really cheap too since I lowered the prices!) When your rival and Professor Birch are done talking, you are going to want to head north again. When you reach the part around where your house is, your mom will stop you. She will say she has something for you and give you running shoes. You can now run faster by holding "B". You are now free to do whatever you want. The introduction is over, and the game will now begin!

2. Your Journey Begins!

Go back to Oldale Town and head west when you get there instead of going north. There will be an opening that you were not allowed to go through before. This opening leads to Route 2.

The gym in Petalburg City is a normal type gym, and the leader is your dad! You cannot challenge it until later in the game, however. Enter the gym and you will see your dad. He will start talking to you about how proud he is that you are a Pokemon trainer, when a boy named Wally comes in. Wally wants to learn how to catch Pokemon. Your dad will give him a Zigzagoon and tell you to go help him catch a Pokemon. You will go out to Route 2 and Wally will catch a Ralts. You will then return to the gym. Your dad will tell you to head to start your journey by heading to Rustboro City and challenging the gym there, and to come back and battle him when you are stronger. Leave the gym and go to the west, towards Route 4.

If you chose Charmander as your starter, or caught one of the many fire types available in Starter Town (both outside and in your room), you should be able to fly right past Petalburg Woods. There are a lot of bug and grass type Pokemon, but fire types can take them down easily. Keep going north and you will eventually reach the end of the Petalburg Woods. It will spit you back out onto the second half of Route 4.

There is a flower shop to the north. If you talk to the girls in there, one of them will give you a pail that you can use to water plants. After you get the pail (if you want to), head to the east, and cross the bridge to the north. When you make it across the bridge, continue north. You will end up in Rustboro City, the city that your dad told you to go to.

The gym in Rustboro City is the first gym that you will face. It focuses on rock type Pokemon, and it is lead by a girl named Roxanne. It is best to use Water, Grass, Ground, Steel, and/or Fighting type Pokemon, and you should avoid using Flying, Normal, Fire, Ice, or Bug type Pokemon.

Roxanne's Team:

Geodude level 14
Nosepass level 15

If you beat Roxanne she will give you the Stone Badge, as well as TM 39 (Rock Tomb). You will also be able to use HM 01 (Cut) outside of battle.

After beating Roxanne, go to the house to the left of the Pokemon Center. This is the Cutter's House. If you talk to the man inside, he will give you HM 01 (Cut). You can use cut outside of battle to cut down small trees and gain access to places that you couldn't go before. After obtaining Cut, head north. When the path turns right, follow it to the right. A man will say something about being robbed. Keep heading to the east, and you will find yourself in Route 16.

Route 16

Keep going east. You may have to battle some trainers along the way. Eventually you will find a cave entrance. Outside, there will be an old man that claims that someone stole his Pokemon. Enter the cave. You are now in Rusturf Tunnel.

Porygon level 5-8
Gastly level 5-8
Geodude level 5-8
Aron level 5-8

Walk up the stairs and turn to the right. Keep heading in that direction until you see a Team Magma Grunt with a Wingull next to him. Walk up to him and challenge him to a battle. He should be really easy to beat, as he only has a Poochyena. Once you beat him, he will give you the stolen items that the man in Rustboro City was talking about, and he will also give you the Wingull, which was the Pokemon that was stolen from the old man. As a thank you for saving his Wingull, the old man offers to take you to a couple of different locations on his boat. You will take his boat a little bit later. Take the stolen items, also known as the Devon Goods, back to the man. He will thank you and bring you to the president of the Devon Corporation. The president will give you a Pokenav, which has a bunch of cool features including a map. He will also give you a letter that he asks you to deliver to a man named Steven in Dewford Town. Now is the time where you travel with the old man. You are going to head back through the second half of Route 4 and through Petalburg Woods. I am not going to list all of the Pokemon there since you already know. The old man lives in the little house on the first half of Route 4. Go inside and talk to the man. He will offer to take you to Dewford Town. Say yes, and set sail!

Meditite level 8-10
Mankey level 8-10
Tyrogue level 8-10
Hitmontop level 8-10
Hitmonchan level 8-10
Hitmonlee level 8-10

As soon as you arrive in Dewford Town, the first thing you should do is talk to the fisherman standing to the right of the gym. He will give you an Old Rod, so you can fish!

The gym in Dewford Town is the second gym that you will face. The gym specializes in fighting type Pokemon. The best Pokemon to use would be Flying, Ghost, and/or Psychic types, while you should try to stay away from using Dark, Rock, Normal, Steel, and/or Ice types. The leader of the gym is Brawly.

Brawly's Team:

Machop level 17
Makuhita level 18

If you defeat Brawly, you will be rewarded with the Knuckle Badge, as well as TM 08 (Bulk Up). You will also be able to use the HM Flash outside of battle.

After you beat the gym, you are going to want to go north as far as you can, and then west. You will see a cave entrance. Enter the cave.

Granite Cave

Pokemon found on the first floor of Granite Cave:

Cave floor:
Zubat level 6-10
Makuhita level 6-10
Spinarak level 6-10
Gligar level 6-10
Duskull level 6-10
Geodude level 6-10

The first thing that you will want to do when you enter Granite Cave is talk to the hiker that is standing near the entrance. He will give you HM 05 (Flash), which is very helpful in Granite Cave. You are going to want to teach it to one of your Pokemon. What Flash does is it lights up dark caves, so that you can see the path ahead of you. When you go to the next floor of Granite Cave you will see what I mean. Continue to the west and climb down the ladder.

Pokemon found on the second floor of Granite Cave:

Cave floor:
Zubat level 9-11
Makuhita level 9-11
Spinarak level 9-11
Gligar level 9-11
Aron level 9-11
Mawile level 9-11
Sableye level 9-11

If you taught Flash to a Pokemon, now is the time to use it. Go to your Pokemon, select the one that knows flash, click on it, and click "Flash". This will light up the cave, making it easier to see. You are going to want to go up, then right, then down, and then climb the ladder to go down to the next floor.

Pokemon found on the third floor of Granite Cave:

Cave floor:
Zubat level 10-12
Gligar level 10-12
Aron level 10-12
Mawile level 10-12
Sableye level 10-12
Duskull level 10-12

Go to the left, then up, and then to the right. If you walk up to the shiny rock on the little hill and press "A" you will get an Everstone. Continue right and go up the ladder. This brings you back up to the second floor. The go right and up the ladder, back up to the first floor. Walk to the left and then go south. You will see an entrance to a little room. Enter the little room.

Pokemon found in the little room in Granite Cave:

Cave floor:
Zubat level 7-8
Makuhita level 6-10
Abra level 8
Aron level 7-8

Once you enter, you will see a man. That man is Steven, the person that you were supposed to give the letter to. If you talk to him, it will give him the letter. He will give you TM 47 (Steel Wing) to show his gratitude. When he is done talking, leave the room and jump down the ledges on the eastern side. Continue walking to the east and exit Granite Cave. Go south back to Dewford Town and talk to the old man with the boat. He will offer to take you either back to Rustboro City, or to Slateport City. If you choose to go back to Rustboro City, you can talk to the president of the Devon Corporation and he will give you an EXP Share. If you do not want to go all the way back for an EXP Share, then choose to go to Slateport City.

3. Still Early On

When you enter Slateport City, you may notice that there are a bunch of Team Magma members crowding around the Oceanic Museum. There are also a line of Team Magma members preventing you from leaving Slateport City to the north. What you need to do is go to Stern's Shipyard and talk to the guy there. He will tell you that you need to find Capt. Stern. Go back to the Oceanic Museum and the Team Magma members will no longer be outside of it. When you enter the museum, you will find out where they went. They are all in the museum. Go up the stairs to the top floor of the museum. Capt. Stern is there. There will also be two Team Magma Grunts there. You will need to battle them, and you should be able to take them down easily. One of the Team Magma members that is higher up than the Grunts will arrive, talk for a little, and then tell Team Magma to leave the museum. You will then need to leave the museum. On the way out, there is a Team Magma Grunt. If you talk to him, he will give you TM 46 (Thief) before scurrying off. Leave the museum and go north, back to where the Team Magma Grunts were blocking off before. You are going to leave the city to the north, and go on Route 10.

Route 10 is a long route. The lower section of it is a path filled with grass, while the upper half of it consists of the Cycling Road. The Trick House is also located on Route 10.

Since you cannot get a bicycle in the game yet, you will have to take the grassy path under the Cycling Road. It is a hard route to get through. I recommend taking a bunch of Super Potions, Antidotes, and Parlyz Heals with you or you may not make it through. And if the route wasn't hard enough to get through by itself, your rival is waiting for you in the middle of it, and challenges you to a battle. In my opinion, the battle against your rival on Route 10 is one of the hardest battles in the game. It may take a few tries, but when you beat them, your rival will give you the Itemfinder. This will help you find any items that may be hidden in random locations throughout the game. When you manage to get through Route 10, you will end up in Mauville City.

Mauville City

Pokemon Center: Yes
Pokemart: Yes
Gym: Yes
Other Points of Interest: Rydel's Cycles (Bike shop) and the Mauville Game Corner

Pokemon found in the Mauville City Gym:

Grass:
Magnemite level 14-18
Voltorb level 14-18
Pikachu level 14-18
Mareep level 14-18
Plusle level 14-18
Minun level 14-18

Pokemart items:
Pokeball
Great Ball
Super Potion
Antidote
Parlyz Heal
Awakening
X Speed
X Attack
X Defend
Guard Spec.
Dire Hit
X Accuracy

The first thing you are going to want to do when you arrive at Mauville City is to head to the west towards the gym. Remember Wally from Petalburg? You will see him standing in front of the gym. Walk up to him and talk to him. He will challenge you to a battle. All he has is his Ralts, and it will be very easy to beat him. He will say that he needs to practice more, and walk away. Then you will be able to challenge the gym.

The gym in Mauville City is based around Electric type Pokemon. Your best bet is to use Ground type Pokemon, since not only are ground type attacks super effective against electric Pokemon, but electric attacks do not affect ground type Pokemon at all. Avoid using Flying and Water type Pokemon. The leader of the Mauville gym is appropriately named Wattson.

Wattson's team:

Magnemite level 22
Voltorb level 20
Magneton level 23

Since Wattson also has 2 Pokemon that are part Steel type, using Fire and Fighting type Pokemon would be effective as well.

When you take him down, he will give you the Dynamo Badge and TM 34 (Shock Wave). You can also use the HM Rock Smash outside of battle.

The next thing you are going to want to do is head to the eastern side of the city and go to Rydel's Cycles (the bike shop). You can get one for free. Rydel gives you the choice between the Mach Bike and the Acro Bike. Both bikes have their pros and cons. One is better is certain situations, while the other is better in other situations. You can always go back and switch it at any time. After you get the bike of your choice, go to the house in the south eastern corner of Mauville. The guy in the house will give you the HM Rock Smash, which will allow you to, well, smash rocks. It is a very useful HM. Then exit Mauville City to the north and you will find yourself on Route 11.

Route 11

You can not catch any of the Pokemon on Route 11 yet. They are all located in the sandstorm, which you cannot enter yet. I will still give you a list though.

Pokemon found in Route 11:

Sandstorm:
Sandshrew level 19-22
Trapinch level 19-22
Cacnea level 19-22

Phanpy level 19-22
Houndour level 19-22
Ninjask level 19-22

Keep going as far north as possible. When you can no longer go any further north, head to the west. You are now on Route 12.

Keep going to the west and climb up the stairs. You will see an entrance to a cave. That cave is what is known as Fiery Path. Enter Fiery Path.

This is where I stopped my Pokemon Aquamarine walkthrough, so this is where I am going to stop my Pokemon Ultimate Ruby walkthrough as well. I plan to either make a second part to it or edit it at a later point in time. I am stopping now because if I tried to do the whole game it would take weeks. I would rather do it in sections.

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any feedback. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again for reading and enjoy Pokemon Ultimate Ruby!

mattg0523 : I know you have been playing this, since you have been constantly asking me where certain Pokemon can be found. I partially made this for you, so that you don't have to keep asking. I am summoning you because I thought you might find this useful.

There are a lot of bug and grass type Pokemon, but fire types can take them down easily. Keep going north and you will eventually reach the end of the Petalburg Woods. It will spit you back out onto the second half of Route 4.

Keep going east. You may have to battle some trainers along the way. Eventually you will find a cave entrance. Outside, there will be an old man that claims that someone stole his Pokemon. Enter the cave. You are now in Rusturf Tunnel.

Baltoy level 19-22
Diglett level 19-22
Onix level 19-22
Cubone level 19-22
Phanpy level 19-22
Houndour level 19-22
Ninjask level 19-22
Shedinja level 19-22
Steelix level 19-22

Keep going as far north as possible. When you can no longer go any further north, head to the west. You are now on Route 12.

Route 12

Pokemon found on Route 12:

Grass:
Numel level 14-16
Torkoal level 14-16
Machop level 14-16
Slugma level 14-16
Magby level 14-16
Magmar level 14-16
Elekid level 14-16
Electabuzz level 14-16
