Since the gaming industry really took off full force, there have been a lot of bad sequels, some of them were made just because the Developers were desperate for quick profit, others were rushed out by the gamers themselves. Some bad sequels can blame their failures on In-experience with new and improved consoles such as the Super Nintendo or the Nintendo 64. Bad sequels can also be found in the more recent years of gaming, Games such as Army of Two had a bad sequel, mainly because of the failed innovations they wanted to implement. Remember, this post is Any system, Any sequel (Direct or not, canon or non-canon) and any time period.

Final Fantasy X was a good story and I enjoyed the game play.  The character development was excellent and it was one of the better Final Fantasy games I've seen.  It was a little bit linear but it was fun, moved at a good pace, and had good control.

Final Fantasy X-2 was a train wreck.  It was so focused on being an open sandbox world and the story line was so diluted I was embarrassed to play it.  The game was all about customization, which was cool, but unless a player spent hours developing all the skills and the abilities of the various dress spheres, it wasn't worth the time.  I don't like the knitty gritty to be that in depth.

The music was like a Korean pop star vomited on a microphone and I basically played the game with the audio removed.

Yuck.

Super Smash Bros Melee was an amazing sequel to the Nintendo 64 Smash Brothers. It had high-speed super intense gameplay along with the insane cast of characters along with additions of several game modes, like Adventure, and even having a Stadium mode to break targets, smash the sandbag and then swing at it, or even defeat wireframes in Multi-Man Melee.

Super Smash Bros Brawl? It's absolute trash. Not offending any Brawl likers, but I believe this is the worst sequel I have ever seen. But it's actually close second to the sequel of "Hey you, Pikachu!", "Pokémon Channel"

The game is super sluggish, and it isn't fair crippling many of the Melee pros, and I should say driving millions of players of earlier Smash games away from Brawl because of how bad it's criticized by the competitive scene. Metagame got cheaply overhauled into a major camping game and chain grabbing from 0-death as almost any character. Out of 38 characters, like at least 33% of the cast can chain throw multiple grabs in a row without escape. Plus, combos don't exist in the game. Very few characters in Brawl can combo. Characters include Lucario, Luigi, "Spamma-Knight" (Meta Knight), Snake, Sonic, Marth, or even Falco and Fox outside of throw setups.

Any smash player like me would know about the bads of Brawl already in more ways than I can describe here.

I would have to say Mario Kart Super Circuit. I mean, I get it that the graphics were going to be meh at best since it was on the Game Boy Advanced, but the way you slide all over the place? I mean, come on.

I almost said Gears of War: Judgement or Assassin's Creed 3, but I have not played those in a long time, and do not own them anymore, so I would have to play them again before I could confidently say that they were worst sequels than Mario Kart Super Circuit.

I remember Tiny Toons Adventure being a hit for the NES when I was a child. It had good levels good graphics, and was just a good game overall.  But Tiny Toons II was a disaster. It seemed like the developers did not put any effort into that game. The stages were short, and it just seemed like it was put together in a sloppy way.

F.E.A.R. 3  The only way for me that I could make this game fun, was by playing co-op with my buddy and even then it was more self made laughs and thrills, rather than actual in game thrills or frights, just didn't sit well with me.

Or various games in the Silent Hill series, pick and choose, lol.

Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World is probably the most disappointing video game sequel at the top of my head.

Tales of Symphonia is known to be the one of the best RPG games on the Gamecube. This game can take many hours or should I say many days in general, in order to finish this game. It made me feel like I was an actual hero fighting in the shoes of Lloyd and the rest of the team.

Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World however, eliminates around 80% of the gameplay of what the first game had to offer. This sequel limits many of its gameplay, weapons, abilities, skills, and so forth. Worst of all, it only took me a couple of hours to finish this game which shows how much the sequel was rushed and making the setting after the first game look really horrible.

As we all know, pokemon games are just sequels to the games before them, so the most disappointing for me was the change from Pokemon Black 2 to Pokemon X. Pokemon black 2 was an amazing game, but when I started to play Pokemon X, I realized how bad it was.

Max Payne 2. It's not so much a BAD game as it is a dissapointment. The weapons are too powerful, the game too short, the levels not engageing, and the story bland. I still play it sometimes, but i'll take the first MP game over the second any day of the week.

Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword Of Chaos, It is not so much as horrible per se it is very difficult compared to Ninja Gaiden I. There are even more annoying enemies and you still can get knocked back after getting hit by enemies and you can sometimes land into a pit that kills you. There are also some difficult bosses that will defeat you upon you not knowing any better about the game. The game however has better music compared to the first installment and gives much more of a challenge to the seasoned Ninja Gaiden players. The game however also lacks the plot that the first game had and would be more better if it had a more advanced plot that would help in pushing the story forward.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Its still a great game but its largest flaw was removing support conversations which would give characters depth in previous Fire Emblem games, and this game really needed it with its 70+ characters in the game.

Assassin's Creed III was the most disappointing sequel I've ever played. The momentum and intensity built up in the last games was taken away, and the gameplay in this game is much worse than the others, and the story took a major dip in quality.

However, Assassin's Creed IV was amazing.

I will have to say ff13 part 2 and 3 I didn't really see the point for the game to have a sequel to it. I liked the original. But they could had made the game better. By giving it the ending the players wanted. But, still I liked the main character. But the gameplay and the story sucked for me. Also if it wasn't bad enough the storyline was way out from the original plot. And the ending just got me mad. The way they ended it...I'm not going to say....and if I don't know any better. I heard rumors that, there's going to be a part 4 to the game. And I was like seriously?

And as for warmaker said its either you like somethings about ffx-2 or you don't at all. There were some part of the storyline that I liked. To be honest I was waiting for the ending I wanted, and so I did get it. As did the rest of the players. The gameplay sucked. What else....most of the music was good, while some was like meh..

I don't hate ff13 part 2 it just didn't make sense. In the 3rd one I dunno how to put it...

Penny arcade on the rain-slick precipice of darkness 4. Penny arcade on the rain-slick precipice of darkness 3 was an extremely fun RPG with funny humor and a neat battle-style. Penny arcade on the rain-slick precipice of darkness 4's humor felt forced and the battle system wasn't as fun.

The only game that really comes to mind is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. I really enjoyed the first one, but the second one was just so repetitive and felt like a chore to play through half the time. It just felt very uninspired and more like an obligatory sequel.

This may sound odd, but I'm going to go with Mario Party 8. The reason this is odd is because I've only owned 2 Mario Party games: Mario Party 2 for the Nintendo 64, and Mario Party 8 for the Wii.

I still like 8, but when you get a game from a series you haven't played a title from since the early 2000s, you expect it to be superior, especially since it has motion controls incorporated into it's mini games. There were a few mini games that I liked, but most of them were really dull compared to the mini games from 2 in my opinion. Getting stars was also better in 2 since you just went around the board and collected them, not do all sorts of crazy different things to get stars. In fact, I also liked the boards from 2 better than 8. I had so much fun playing in Western Land, Pirate Land, and Horror Land. I kind of like Koppa's Tycoon Town in 8, but the others were just annoying to get around....

So yeah, I was a bit disappointed with Mario Party 8, especially since I spent $40 on it....
