The Stanley Parable is one of the weirder games I've played. So naturally I liked it. It messes with your mind. It's truly an unforgettable game. Now, I shall review it in proper steam format. It's a game I couldn't forget even if I wanted to. It's best played blind, but it's fun to re-experience it too.

Graphics: 90
The graphics are great. Although seemingly repetitive, if you pay enough attention to things like papers on the floor, or computer screens, or anything of the sort. It's pretty impressive. Everything looks great, even when they're not supposed to. And when the style unexpectedly shifts, like retro style text, papers all over the floor,
Spoiler:
being sent to Minecraft, everything becoming the default textures,
all white rooms. It still looks great.

Music: 60
There isn't much music in this game, and what music the game has can get repetitive really quickly. But there are a few songs that sound especially good, mainly Following Stanley. But to it's credit, all of the music fits the atmosphere of the game pretty well.

Gameplay: 100
The gameplay is really unique. The story is, in abridged form: Stanley is an ordinary guy, he has a job at an office. He is employee 427, and employee 427's job is to press buttons. Orders are given to him through his monitor, and it tells him which buttons to press and how long to press them for. But one day, something unthinkable happened. The monitor stopped giving him orders, and to top it all off, his co-workers have disappeared. What could it mean? I don't want to spoil it for you, you need to find out for yourself.

The controls are pretty simple. It uses the WASD control scheme, and E or just clicking to interact with things. You can't jump though, nor can you run. It's just a calm, brisk, walk for Stanley.

The difficulty is pretty low. There isn't much challenge for Stanley.
Spoiler:
Unless you really do play the Baby Game for four hours...

The depth is shockingly high. There are 18 possible endings, and quite a bit of extras. While playing, it's just you and the narrator. And the narrator, well, narrates. But he talks a bit before you actually do what he says, so you have the option to do what he says, or go your own way. This can lead to some pretty interesting, and hilarious, story routes. Lots you probably wouldn't think of going through a first time. It's best if you go in not knowing what is going to happen. Lots of them you won't even expect going into them. And basically, the developers thought of everything going into this. There are tons of hidden things, and a few endings, that you really need to look hard for.

Pros and Cons: 50/50
This game has a few flaws. Well, it only cusses twice, and while funny in context isn't entirely necessary. The game is also pretty short. But that doesn't mean you won't spend a lot of time on it. But the game's irony, and it's overall enjoyability, can even it out sometimes. It's definitely worth playing, but if you're unsure about it, just wait for a sale.

Overall, I give it a score of 92/100. It's a funny, clever, and thought provoking game. It messes with your mind, and you'll wonder why you're even playing. You'll accomplish nothing, but admire the genius of the game.

A little fun fact about the developers, they made a trailer for the game that makes fun of most Let's Play'ers. And they made a video as a response to an angry email they received (The Stanley Parable: Raphael Edition, if you want to look it up for yourself).

I played the demo of this game, and it was brilliant, for the most part.  It's perhaps the greatest single Demo ever made.  The humor reminded me of Portal, and made me laugh more than a few times.  I plan on getting this game, only when it's at a lower discount and I actually have a job  I bet it will be in a bundle before long (Maybe Tuesday?).

supernerd117 : It's definitely worth playing! It is a bit like Portal, with the narrator. But if you can get it during a sale, assuming you have Steam Funds, go for it!

imamonster : Yeah, I know it's a short review, but it's a pretty short game. ^.^'
noahd101 : The original was a Half-Life 2 mod. The HD version is a Portal 2 mod. And yes, I play Half-Life.

It was really worth playing.

I love how upset you can make the narrator.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .
