Mega Man 5 is one of the best Nintendo Entertainment Mega Man games out there. Here is a review I have done on this great game.

Story: 9
Mega Man 5's story line from the intro of the game and from the games manual. Proto Man
appears to have gone haywire. Proto Man has sent 8 robots after his brother
Mega Man. Dr. Light is even kidnapped by what looks like Proto Man. Dr. Cossack
who is now an assistant of Dr. Light’s gives Mega Man a new buster so he can
solve this mystery. Mega Man wonders why is his brother doing this and is it
really Proto Man. The story of Mega Man 5 was very good and better than Mega
Man 4’s story.  The story really makes the player think that one of the good guys has turned bad. It is the type of plot that has mystery to it and it is like the player has to solve this mystery. It was very creative on Capcom’s part to come up with a story like this where
there is suspense, mystery and drama within a game.  How many Mega Man games have that type of plot this is the only one I can think of.

Graphics: 10

Mega Man 5 had some of the best graphics of all Nintendo Entertainment System Mega Man games. The way the palm trees move in Napalm’s man stage is a nice touch. In
fact, it reminded me of Super Mario Brothers 3 which had very good graphics.
The way the crystal’s shine in Crystal Man’s stage is a nice touch as well.
Stone Man’s mountain background makes the player think they are going into a
mountain. Also how Mega Man flashes when he is charging his buster is very
good. Mega Man in this game gets a powerful buster shot fully charged. That was
a step up from Mega Man 4 were the buster was a slim stream. Now it is a very
powerful blast. Also compared to Mega Man 4 the graphics of him charging his
shots looked like it was missing something, but in this game Capcom did it
perfectly. The controls are nice too no were in this game does Mega Man feel
sluggish. The springs are really good too. In addition, no were in this game
does the game seem like it lags for me. It is hard to believe that this was an
8 bit game sometimes it felt like it was 16 bit. It has been speculated that
Mega Man 5 was supposed to be for the SNES.

Music/sound: 10

What can I say this game had some of the best Music in Mega Man games well maybe second best if you include Mega Man 7? The sound track is awesome Napalm’s man stage music is one of my favorites. Stone man’s tune I like as well as Crystal Man’s
stage theme. In fact, not one stage has bad music in this game. The fortress
stages even have nice rocking tunes. I also like the way Mega Man sounds when
he is charging his buster. The player can see and gets the feeling that Mega
Man is consuming powerful energy. Also the way the enemies make their sounds
lets the player know their attacks are serious. Especially the robot masters
and bomb enemies have very good sounds. Capcom made sure that this game had
very good music. A lot of Mega Man games have good music but then there are
some that have very good music such as Mega Man 7, Mega Man V, Mega Man 5, Mega
Man IV and Mega Man 3.

Additiveness and Depth:9
Mega Man 5 is a very fun game to play. The story and plot really adds replay value to this
game. Also the sound tracks add replay value. This is game is in my top 5 of
Mega Man games that I go back and play over again. The Depth of this game is
typical of Mega Man games  that consist of several stages but it is slightly better. Unlike
other Mega Man games the player has to collect letters in this game. Mega Man
1-4 did not have that. So to get the secret weapon that Dr. Cossack made for
Mega Man the player has to collect all the letters. The letters are hidden so
revisiting stages is a must to complete this game. The only other Mega Man game
that the player has to collect letters in is Mega Man IV (Game Boy) Mega Man 6
and Mega Man 7. How Capcom did it were every stage has a letter only rivals two
other games Mega Man 7 and Mega Man IV for Game Boy. Mega Man 5 is longer and
takes a while to beat unlike other Mega Man games such as Mega Man 2 that are
shorter.

Difficulty:8
Mega Man 5 does have some hard spots in the game. The stages have difficult spots in them. The robot masters are not too bad compared to other Mega Man games. Considering that the powerful buster can do as much damage as special weapons to the bosses brings the difficulty rating down a little bit. However, the fortress stages
can be difficult so that is what keeps the rating decent. Not to mention, that
collecting the letters also adds difficulty because it takes skill to get some
a few of them. Also the enemy placement in this game is above average.
Sometimes it is so easy to get bombarded with enemies and having to shoot it
out. A few stages have enemies that just want to hit you and knock you into the
pits or spikes. So Mega Man 5 is no easy game. But it’s the type of difficulty
that is challenging and that I like; it requires skills and creativity.

Overall: 9.6
What can I say I love this game it is one of my favorites. Everything a great game has
this game has, the graphics, the rocking music and the difficulty make this one
a gem. I rank this game up there with Mega Man7, Mega Man V, Mega Man IV, Mega
Man 4 and Mega Man 3 as greatest Mega Man games in the classic series. I also
like the storyline how it leads players to think that the good guys are turning
bad and as I mentioned in the plot section it adds mystery to it.  I would highly recommend this game. The only negative I have of this game and it is so minor is that the Mega Buster is sometimes more powerful than special weapons. But, as I said that is very minor. It is
rumored that Mega Man 5 was supposed to have been made for the SNES if that is
the case they may explain why this game is so good and has better graphics. In
summary, this game is fun, it is great, so I recommend playing this game you
won’t be disappointed
