The Mario Brothers are back. Mario Brothers 3 came out around 1990 it has since gone on to be a classic. Here is my review of this great game

Overall: 10
I remember getting this game when it first came out. It is a great game. It is one of my favorites in the Mario games. The graphics are good, the sound is very good. The story was creative. Everything a great game has this game has. Nintendo really went out on this game. Super Mario Brothers 3 has a lot to offer. I enjoyed this game as a young boy when it first came out. I still enjoy it today. I also find that by Nintendo introducing Bowser's children also boosts this games rating.

Graphics: 10
For a Nintendo game Super Mario Brothers 3 really shines. I like how the hills and trees move along  to the music in World 1, 4 and 5. The graphics were so much improved from the first Mario Brothers game. The controls are very nice too. They do not seem sluggish at all. The backgrounds are nicely done too it seems like they match the stage. Nintendo upped their graphics for this masterpiece and it shows. The first Mario Brothers game seemed to have slow graphics and lag at times. I think it was remarkable that Nintendo could come up with very good graphics considering this game is an 8 bit game.

Sound: 10
The Music in Super Mario Brothers 3 rocked. How all the worlds have a different theme is a nice touch. I really like the music in World 4 it is so relaxing and it is upbeat. World 6's ice theme is also nice because it sounds like a winter theme. Really this game does not really have bad music. I also like it how the music in stages alternates. In the first Mario game it just seemed like there were only 4 stage themes. While that was good the player could get tired of hearing the same music over and over. However, in the first Mario game it was the first so it can be expected. But in Super Mario Brothers 3 the sound track is alternating so nobody should get tired of the music. The sounds of power ups are also nicely done. The raccoon power up has a nice sound when the player swirls to knock out an enemy or fly. It is a nice sound because it lets the player know they are doing something. The fire power up also is nice. Other power ups have a nice sound to them as well. The koopa's weapons seem nice too letting the player know they mean business

Addictveness: 9
Super Mario Brothers 3 has one of the highest replay values. As I mentioned above I got this game when it first came out around 1990. Here it is 2014 and I still play this game. The depth of the game really adds to the replay value (more on that below). Just the fact that they are so many levels also adds to the games replay value. I often find myself wanting to go through the game again trying to win with different power ups.

Story: 9
The Story is nicely done. From the intro and from the manual Bowser has returned. Bowser has returned to wreck havoc on the kingdoms in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, this time he has brought surprises his Children. Super Mario Brothers 3 was the first game to introduce the Koopa Kids. I thought that was nice on how Nintendo introduced the children of Bowser. After the player defeats the Koopalings as they are sometimes called. The player will find another familiar plot in the Mario series occurs adding more to the story. It was nice that Super Mario Brothers 3 had a story. The first Mario Brothers game's story was not really defined. So Nintendo made sure to give this masterpiece a story.

Depth: 10
Super Mario Brothers 3 also shines on depth. This is a very big game and its going to take a while to beat. They are so many power ups to try to find in this game. It is often fun just to get a certain power up and try to beat the game using that power. The power ups offered in this game are: fire, raccoon, frog, tukama, and the hammer power up. Their are 8 worlds in this game and each level has its secrets. They are several Mushroom houses to visit for power ups and to try and win prizes. Their is even another way that prizes can be earned by earning enough points. The first Mario Brothers game did not have a lot of depth. So Nintendo makes up for it in this game.

Difficulty: 9
If you thought that Super Mario Brothers 3 was going to be easy like Super Mario Brothers 2 think again. This game is difficult. I have been playing this game for a while and it still is difficult. The stages can be tricky and in some cases you have to go through a maze to reach the end. The first level is easy so that keeps this from getting a 10. However, after world one the game gets difficult fast. I also find that the Koopalings bump up the difficulty. Each Koopa kid has a different attack style and requires different skills to defeat. Some of them especially Roy and Ludwig can stun you when they hit the ground adding more to the difficulty. Another thing that adds to the difficulty is all the enemies they throw at you. Each stage has a lot of enemies so it is real easy to walk right into an enemy or get hit. Also this game is very long which means more traps so that is also what makes this game difficult.

I read your review and liked it.

As a Mario fanatic, I expected a high score. I love how the games truly get better from one to the next.

The game looks like a lot of fun, but do you think there's anywhere it could improve?

With a game like this it is kind of hard to improve it more. The only thing I can think of right off the bat is keeping the Koopalings names constant. Some of them change names in games after this which can be a little confusing. However, I think Nintendo has fixed that.

What an awesome Mario game.  Finally able to finish it without using the castle coins cheat which I was certainly not able to do as a young un.

This is a really good review for a really good Mario game. The first Mario game I ever played, and thanks to you it has made my day so much better. Nintendo has been doing its best to make things after this game better, but it is very hard to make a Mario game better than Super Mario Bros. 3. Even after I died I would keep continuing and continuing until I had to take a break from the game. I was never able to beat it, so I am going to go back and try try again until I beat it.
