SEGA Contacted both me and Sean to remove the Java emulator we were using, apparently that emulator SEGA owns and purchased complete rights to from the original creator of that emulator as to why that jEnesis emulator was taken down from its creator's website years ago. The guy who sold it to me refunded me my money.

It also sounds like the guy who was going to hook me up with a Turbo Grafx and MAME emulator in October no longer wants anything to do with vizzed in risk of having SEGA knock at his door for all the emulators he's created (though SEGA wouldn't do that, they didn't even care about the other stuff I had and didn't care about the fact I had Genesis roms on the site, all the cared about was the fact I was using an emulator they own - the guy is just being paranoid).

I think I did get a little bit of an insider from SEGA of Europe though, they have a website which it sounds like they'll be using the jEnesis emulator on so SEGA themselves are going to be having their own website where SEGA roms are playable on their emulator, similar to how vizzed board has it but I think SEGA will be charging a monthly fee for their service.

This kinda sucks... now that that guy doesn't want anything to do with VizzedBoard anymore are there any alternatives to an emulator not made by SEGA? Or we could use their JEnesis emulator if we get licensing not sure how much that would cost.

Well they said they'll have an affiliate program available in 4 weeks when their site is up but I'm not sure what they mean by the affiliation for sure.

Retrouprising probably still has it, but you have to install ArcadeOX I believe. But, the only choice now is downloading roms and using AGES or whatever emulator you use.

Nope because Romain is the guy who owns PotatoGEN and he's the guy I speak of who no longer wants anything to do with Vizzed Board because of the SEGA thing (even though he's over-reacting, SEGA didn't even care about what was going on with the site, they only cared about the fact I was using an emulator that they own).

Some good news to add to the situation.

Basically Romain has the following emulators he's created
Turbo Grafx, NES, SMS, GG, Coleco vision, MSX, Arcade, neogeo and genesis.

He said that at the moment he's not interested in offering his Genesis emulator until the SEGA thing has passed far enough by but I started talking with him and I got him to agree on letting us use some of his other emulators for now. So it might be possible before the month ends that we'll have Turbo Grafx on the site. Other emulators of his that we'll eventually get are MSX, Colecovision, Neogeo, Arcade and maybe even SMS/GG (as a backup). Eventually though he'll let us use his Genesis emulator, just don't know when.

That's very good news! Now we can expand the RGR even more.

I just have one question: Why can't we use Potato Gen? I understand the guy's paranoid, it's understandable, but we were using jEnisis. Did the guy make both emulators or something? Or is he just paranoid that he could get sued for letting us use his emulators?

Well he's afraid of SEGA contacting him about his PotatoGEN. The emulator we were using before was jEnesis and was created by a different person but SEGA bought the rights to that emulator. Romain is just being being cautious and doesn't want SEGA to bust him for any reason since SEGA had been sniffing around the Retro Game Room and requested us to remove the jEnesis emulator.

normally I would resent that as I actually WOULD donate to vizzed had I the money, but it's true, I'm cheap, I usually have to try to talk my parents out of giving me money for things because I feel the family needs it more than I do, and I would just lock it up anyway

it's times like this that really make me hate sega

Actually SEGA had all rights to do this. I was using an emulator they owned, I'm just lucky they didn't bust me for anything, if it were Nintendo or Sony, you can bet that the entire Game Room would've been removed.

I usually don't sign up for forums but I saw this topic and I felt I should add my experiences. I've been lurking at Retrouprising.com(and vizzed obviously) for over a year now and I've never had reason to believe there's any security issues. Could you explain why you think there's a problem? From my understanding it's only an add-on you have to download and that's a pretty common thing on a lot of sites.

Also I've never seen the admin be anything but helpful. If his goal is to make money at any cost then why is he providing all those games and the site for free(besides optional donations)? Sorry but my experience doesn't fit your descriptions. Is it possible that you feel this way because retrouprising is a competitor?

Sorry if I sound confrontational, I just wanna know the real deal.
