simplytyson : Majora's Mask isn't the best game, but it's still a good game overall. It's just too difficult an confusing...and time consuming as well. My least favorites are Adventure of Link, Skyward Sword, and Twilight Princess.

If you talk deep story, MM takes it by storm. If overall enjoyment and gameplay, I'd go with Ocarina of Time. It just feels a lot better playing with that, but that's just me.

I find Ocarina of Time extremely overrated, and I just find Majora's Mask a better game overall. It was fantastic.

Both games are good in their own rights, but I'd have to say Ocarina of time because
1) It has better boss fights and dungeons. Also more of them combined
2) Majoras mask uses much of the same character models. Not that it really matters, but for me it's kind of annoying to see for example that Koume and Kotake are reduced to minor shopkeepers. Also sometimes it feels like you're fighting the same enemies from previous game; just in different environments.
3) Ocarina of time is easily more groundbreaking as a game. Majoras mask is essentially a really good expansion pack.
4) Ocarina of time doesn't have a side quest where you have to protect cows from aliens.

That said Majoras mask is still very awesome game and it has some cool elements that OOT hasn't. For example I really love the strange and creepy atmosphere the game has and the masks are neat. Also while the time system has it's flaws it also brings some rather interesting game play elements to the table. So I can definitely understand why someone would choose Majoras Mask over Ocarina of time.

Both games are amazing so it was rather tough to choose the victory of the N64 era, but it was Majora's Mask that tipped the edge.

I like how you were stuck in a 3 day loop cycle and the time travel used in the game has never ever been used in any other game I have played. While OoT is pretty much the base of the Official Time line of the Zelda series I feel the MM story is better and more touching.

Who ever came up with the idea was a genius Throughout the game you are emotionally touched. Some points you are feeling sympathetic towards the Skull kid and other times you think he is a complete dick but there are also some horror elements and love, happy, sad... Look this game effects you in every way possible and yet the temples are still amazing, they didn't forget anything. This game is amazing.

Such a hard choice to make but I would go with Majora's Mask over Ocarina of Time.I found doing all the side quest and the 3-day system fun and really enjoyable.I agree that Ocarina of Time does have a better soundtrack and story, but the back stories and the dark nature of Majora's Mask was just the better experience for me.

I never really beat Majora's Mask, but I've played it enough to say that it's really awesome... And there's also a huge amount of optional masks and optional sidequests to do that are really cool.

But actually, I'm going to have to say that I prefer Ocarina of Time. That game was absolutely
massive.

This is such a hard choice XD Ocarina of Time is brilliant and tons of fun to play, but I prefer to play Majora's Mask. This may seem odd, considering I hate time limits on games, but I can get over that because you can just loop back to Day 1.
I had WAY more issues saving in OoT because no matter where you save, when you come back you're forced to Kokiri Forest, isolated from pretty much everywhere that you NEED to go. In Majora's Mask there are checkpoints that are placed periodically so that when you come back, you DON'T have to start over.
Sure, there's more space in OoT, but while Hyrule Field is okay if you feel like doing nothing, I prefer Termina Field because it is smaller, and there are more secrets.
Majora's Mask IS harder. I won't deny that. I just prefer it more. Whenever I think over which one to play, I pick Majora's Mask, because I love it.

Ocarina basically defines everything "good" in any Legend of Zelda game ever.

It set the tone for future Zelda games by being the first game to transfer over to 3 dimensions, which a LOT of games completely bombed at doing.

Oh yeah, and I don't think I even need to mention all that wonderful, classic Zelda music that emerged because of OoT.

It wins. In literally every aspect (Majora's Mask is still a great game though).

I've only beaten Ocarina, so Majora would offer something new. I've played Majora though, for a full month, and I never even found the first dungeon. I did every possible thing in Clock Town offered at the beginning. I was just nearing the first dungeon when I quit. I thoroughly enjoyed Majora for what I played, and I'm trying to get money to buy it so I can finally play through it. I would have to say Majora has more stuff, and better exploration with the small map it has, but the entire game of Ocarina is fun, even the Water Temple can not ruin it. So for now I choose OoT, but I know that when I play through Majora, my preference will most likely switch.

The answer to this question is Majora's Mask, with almost no contest. Ocarina of Time was a good game, but, Majora's Mask took everything that was great about its predecessor, multiplied it, and added its own new touches to the series.

The gameplay mechanics are phenomenal, as they were taken from the child period of Ocarina of Time, but I can't help but thing they are a tad bit better. It might just be because I like the game better, or that the game was supposed to improve since it was a sequel, but I feel the game runs much smoother and all of the commands work better. Also an improvement was, of course, the mask system, which added more to the game, and expanded on the rather bland mask system in Ocarina of Time. There are more masks, each with their own purpose, although some may be rarely used.

The music is another thing going for Majora's Mask. Besides a few recycled tracks such as the Goron Shrine/Goron City theme, this game has a whole new soundtrack to accommodate for a whole different world. Each theme fits an area so well, such as the happy-go-lucky clock town theme that slowly gets more and more creepy and apocalyptic as the end of the world draws near, to the emptiness of the Stone Tower Temple theme, which is the Temple of the Dead basically. I rate many of the tracks in this game over Ocarina of Time, though the Gerudo Valley theme from Ocarina of Time is still pretty sweet.

Majora's Mask has a more in-depth story than any of the earlier titles, except maybe Link's Awakening, which is revealed to you through small lines of text, little backstory cutscenes, and more that you would expect out of some modern indie game. The moon is crashing down after a curse being placed on it by Skull Kid, and its your job to free the four giants that Tael the Fairy told you about. One of the greatest lines in the game is probably the "Save our friend" line, told to you by the third giant, said in a moment that you would expect them to mean the fourth giant, when it truth they mean freeing Skull Kid from his maniacal prison. In my opinion, one of the better stories in the whole series.

The graphics are better than in Ocarina of Time, but I am not going to touch on them much. Everything in the game looks better than the predecessor, or the same considering it takes some enemies, items, and other features from Ocarina of Time. Though, the game just looks better in the long run.

The dungeons are one of the main triumphs Majora's Mask has over its predecessor. Each dungeon, (besides the first one, which was short and pretty easy to ease you into the game) has a certain length and difficulty to it that the dungeons in Ocarina of Time just can't compare to. They each carry a theme like they did in Ocarina of Time, but the third and fourth dungeons stand out as intuitive, good looking, and have a solid difficulty. Ocarina of Time's dungeons just seem shallow in comparison, not in length, but the dungeon as a whole. Also to note, there is more stuff to be done to get to each dungeon, which usually means I'll have completed one dungeon in Majora's Mask, where I'll have just beaten two (and then some) in Ocarina of Time.

Sidequests. Oh my god sidequests. Majora's Mask's sidequests are one if its main features, and they are more in depth, fun, and rewarding than a lot of other ones in other games. They make up a good length of the game, and adding them to the long and difficult four dungeons, I find Majora's Mask to be about as long as Ocarina of Time. Ranging from the "So out of place its funny" Alien sidequest to the Anju and Kafei Sidequest, this game has a lot to offer. You even get the Bomber's Notebook to keep track of a character's schedule, items you've obtained from them, and promises you have made to them. So many of the characters in Majora's Mask not only have a personality, but also a backstory, sidequest, and item you can obtain from them, which leads me to the next topic.

Majora's Mask's main asset is its depth. This game has so much going for it, it isn't even funny. Even though the game didn't have that long of a development cycle, everything in this game is so well thought out. The plot, the dungeons, the characters, the world, the sidequests, they are all so well made, it gives Majora's Mask the greatest replay value of any video game I have played.

If anyone has a choice, I'd tell them to go for Majora's Mask.

I pick Majora's mask. I think it might be because of the dark atmosphere. It just simply improved on the original, and you will get way more fun out of it if you take your time and collect all of the masks that are in the game.

Personally, I like Ocarina of Time much more than I like Majora's Mask, but Majora's Mask was such a horribly tough challenge that I can't help but love. Ocarina of Time soars in many areas above Majora's Mask, but I loved the story of Majora's Mask much more.
