Here's a few pros:

1.  Trying to summon someone who has those symbols can prove to be taxing and/or not possible.
2.  Security would be tighter

And some cons:

1.  Cuts back on variety
2.  Some people may not join because certain characters are not allowed (rare, but possible).

I'll add more as I think of them.  Hope this helps!

I feel at least dashes "-" and ands '&' are at least necessary in some usernames. Say for instance if I had chosen my name to be Vizzed-Shogun-Gamer to represent that neither word is spaced and that it's all one word, yet I don't want to put it all together like it is on my youtube username "VizzedShogunGamer" because it's too scrunchy together honestly.

The and signs could be used for things like Ben&Jerry and what not. Imagine putting Ben and Jerry or BenandJerry. It just looks kinda sloppy.

I don't see it being a legitimate problem. If people decide to complain about it, they would have to just enjoy complaining about small stuff, so I'm sure they would find other things to complain about anyway. I take it this has something to do with the user who impersonated you by taking your username and adding the invisible character, fooling people in chat?

I'm all up for it. Personally I find using different characters rather silly in a name, but it never bothers me all that much. In fact, I'm rather indifferent on the matter. But if you do put this in place, then what of those that have these such usernames? The ability to rename them? Banned to create a new account? Something less obvious but more ingenious?

I think this would be great because on some computers (especially with the old ones, you'll only see square/rectangle boxed instead of those characters and that does confuse a lot of people.
