F-Zero is a fun game and I've played several hacks of it for new tracks to challenge. When I saw this one, I decided to try it too. These are my impressions.

First, the speed is much higher than F-Zero X (the original). The highest I hit without glitches was 1414 units (can't remember if it's in metric or imperial) and the usual was over 1000 units. That's fun. Sometimes hard to control at that speed, but kind of fun.

Second, the graphics are different. Overall, they're much better, closer to F-Zero AX/GX I'd say. The tracks look nice as do the machines. The only complaints I have are that the red and yellow tartan patterned tunnel on Fire Field (Bronze Cup) is rather hard on the eyes--very jarring--and the driver box sprites don't look all that great. A few look very odd. Granted, the quality of the of original driver box sprites wasn't stellar either and these ones are at least sharper. The driver sprites themselves are kind of fuzzy, but the artwork is new and looks pretty decent other than the blurs.

What I didn't like about this game was the difficulty level is just too extreme. I played a grand prix on easy and the best I did was 4th and 9th. I took 18th overall. In previous F-Zero games, I've beaten everything in standard and easy modes except the standard joker cup, and I've beaten the X cup on all levels (Master included). I say all that to make the point that I'm not bad at F-Zero. I'm not someone who's going to be setting records or playing at an extremely amazing level, but I'm at least competent and can play the original game fairly well. Easy mode is not easy, at all. I tried hard mode to see how much worse it would get. The difficulty didn't increase too much (that I could tell) but when easy mode could be expert or master class in the original game... you get the point. That is why I rated the addictiveness level as four. It's not so fun when even easy is a nightmare.

If the intention of the game is to be something that most gamers can play for fun or for a good racing experience, it fails. If the intention is to challenge the stud players who do set records and who can play and beat the original on an extreme level, then it's a success, I think, I'm not good enough to know that for sure.
