nzip : Well, probably because that would go either in the Pokemon or Collectors forum. Please, please read the title of thread and forum before blindly posting.

Banning cards is a pretty stupid idea if you ask me. People have to pay money to get those cards (Cause obviously printing them out illegally is against the rules) so why should you ban cards that people have paid money for. If you ask me, it's just a way to get people to spend more money on the game. They create these super OP cards that everyone is gonna want and then, when you finally buy it they ban the card and you never get to use it. You just spend your money for nothing.

Another thing to keep in mind. If the game is so unbalanced that it requires something to be banned, then why hold tournaments meant for competition? Why should you be playing a game when the only way to win is to spam unbalanced cards that give you an immeasurable advantage? There's just no glory in winning an unfair fight.

Since I don't play the game, I don't really know any cards that would be so OP that they would need to be banned, but I do know the basics of the game so I could easily say "Any card that allows you to remove anything off of the opponents field without making you pay an equally dangerous price."

On a final note, If I am correct (I may be wrong but I think I should say this anyway) Pot of Greed is banned. Could someone tell me why Picking up two cards is such an OP way to win the game? I've noticed a card known as Jar of Greed which is just picking up one card, but really that's just a waste of space in your deck.

Like I've said before, I am not up to date on the game, so if anything I have said is wrong (specifically the paragraph above) then please feel free to correct me.

SuperCrash64 :

OCG is Japanese and Korean only. TCG is pretty much every other country that has official tournaments. They are considered two separate games with two separate ban lists. TCG ban list ended up being a lot different from the OCG list I previously posted.

Your own words answer your question-

"Why should you be playing a game when the only way to win is to spam unbalanced cards that give you an immeasurable advantage? There's just no glory in winning an unfair fight."

That is why there needs to be a ban list. They limit the number of unfair cards that are allowed so that decks that are less overpowered can still do well in tournaments.

"On a final note, If I am correct (I may be wrong but I think I should say this anyway) Pot of Greed is banned. Could someone tell me why Picking up two cards is such an OP way to win the game? Most decks in the past few years can either win or set up a strong stall using only a few cards. That's just how the game works now. Grabbing two cards for free is way too easy. There is no cost or drawback. Hand Destruction is at 3 because both players give up 2 cards, then draw 2 cards. You have to give up cards AND your opponent needs at least two cards in their hand. Jar of Greed is a trap. You need to wait at least one turn and you only get to draw one. It has a drawback.

These aren't corrections. I'm just explaining things.
