I enjoyed sonic advance alot, it felt so much like the original genesis trilogy! Then a year later, Sega decided to release YET another sonic adventure for GBA. This game brung ALOT of new things to the table, just like a sequel should, but is this adventure better then the hedgehog's last? Let's see!
Story-7/10 The story behind this game is actually believe it or not, almost the same as Sonic 1 for genesis! Dr eggman is capturing al the furry forest animals and turning them into robots. He has also kidnapped sonic's friend tails and tricked knuckles again. As such, Sonic rushes off to stop Eggman, rescue his friends and collect the chaos emeralds once again.
Gameplay-8/10 The gameplay in SA2 is pretty much the same as Sonic advance 2, except, there are SOME changes....there is a brand new character to this game, and her name is cream the rabbit, she is a polite rabbit who sonic rescues at the end of World 1, she resolves to save her mother from eggman with her friend, cheese. Anyways, let's get on to the real gameplay. At the beginning of the game, you can only play as sonic (Much like sonic adventure 1) and must unlock more characters by progressing through the storyline. All characters can now perform various stunts when flying through the air and not curled in a ball (EX: after being launched from a spring or similar) Another new feature is boost mode. If a character runs as fast as possible for a period of time without stopping or slowing down, they will shatter the sound barrier (M&MS Kart Racing Anyone?) and leave a trail of afterimages behind them. While in this state it possible to run over water. If the B button is used at this state it will become more powerful. The delay before reaching shattering can be decreased by collecting rings. Certain objects in the level (Red booster wheels for instance,) will instantly force the character into the state. APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER! Sorry....I just had to do it!
Graphics-9/10 OMG! The graphics, scenery and sprites have improved SO much from the previous title! All the levels are bursting with color and atmosphere! But then again, all the sprites are recycled for all 3 SA titles...so nothing new here, except for the HUD, it shows your lives, rings, and current score. All the levels look really beautiful and luscious! Making you want to actually visit all these worlds!
Sound-9/10 Ah...the soundtrack, one thing that Sega never messes up! All of the songs are pretty catchy! Not to mention, they all to seem the fit the moods of the levels nicely! My 3 personal favorite tracks from this game are leaf forest, music plant, and XX zone. They are really catchy and have alot of atmosphere in them!
Addictiveness-8/10 How can a sonic title not be addicting? Why for sure, this game is fun! I have alot of fun breaking my records in time attack mode! The gameplay is really super fast too, just like a sonic game should be.
Depth-7/10 After you're done with the story mode, don't forget! You can still play the storyline as tails, knuckles, cream, and I think Amy...I'm not 100% if you can play as Amy, gotta do some research! And there is the time attack mode and the VS mode, which can be played with another friend.
Diffculty-5/10 Eh, this game isn't that hard to beat. I managed to beat it in 3 hours. Yet, OOH! XX zone! It's so easy! i beat that zone without getting hit even one single time! Yet, i'm used to sonic games being challeging (Sonic next gen "cough "cough") But this is too easy!
Overall-9.2/10 Overall! This game is better then the hedgehog's last GBA outing! This game brung alot of new to the table, which always a plus. Wait, what am I saying? All sequels bring new stuff to the table! (EX:Ratchet and clank going commando) So bottom line, BUY THIS GAME. If you can't find any other GBA platformers, I DEFINITELY recommend you pick up this one!
