Welcome to the near future. This RPG (labeled such because it is a game more than it is a story) is set in a world that is crumbling under the pressure of the total collapse of the world economy, and society as a whole. There is no longer an establiashed government anywhere to be found, and no structure. With no law enforcement, all is chaos.

This will be heavily based on battle, which will include HP, Stamina, Defense, a levelling system, and more. So let's get to the rules and sign up sheet.


Rules: If you have participated in an RP run by me before, you already know the basic rules, and can feel free to skip this part.

#1. First and foremost: no "godmodding". This can destroy the fun in an RP, and ultimately derail the game. For those of you who may not know what "godmodding" is, it actually contains a few different ideas:
one form of godmodding is making oneself invincible. This ruins the story and the fun for others. Battle will be turn based, and you can only perform one action unless otherwise stated by the rules. The outcome of your action will be evaluated and determined by the system that will be described later. You cannot indicate what happened in a battle as a result of your action. You simply state what action you take. If you feel there was a mistake in the calculation of the outcome, PM me and we will work it out together to assure a fair outcome has been reached.

Another form of godmodding is when a player controls another character. You are your character, and no one else. And as such, you can only control what your character says and does, just like real life. Never, under any circumstances, control another character, be it another player's character, or an NPC.
Exceptions to the rule: The RP master is allowed to godmod, but will only do so as necessary. If you break this rule too many times, or too severely, the RP master reserves the right to remove your character from the game. I would hate doing this, but without structure, no one can have fun. Also, it is acceptable to suggest a joint effort in a battle with another player (ex. Player A asks Player B to strike a specific way in order to facilitate a follow up attack, or a more effective strike), or to ask another player to make a journey with them (ex. Player B asks Player A to travel to the next objective site with him/her). The player being asked to do these things, reserves the right to decline.

#2. Be active! : In order for the game to progress properly, I need to know that all members will play an active role the RP. If you do not post in this thread for three or more days, your character may be assigned to another player, taken over by the RP master, or removed entirely. In the event of a drastic drop in participation by a substantial number of members, an absence of three or more days may be tolerated at the RP master's discretion.
Exception to the rule: if you know ahead of time that you will not, or may not be able to participate for three or more days, let me know, and your spot will be saved for you.

#3. Have fun! This one's pretty self-explanatory, right?

To sum it all up, just remember that your character is not superhuman or perfect, and just like in real life, you can only control the actions and words of your own self (character). Also, be sure to keep everything as family friendly as an action RPG can be. Some violence is to be expected.

Attributes :

Special Ability:

Each character can have one of the following special abilities. You may have an opportunity to switch abilities at some point, but you can never have more than one at a time.

Sniper : can hit enemies from 25% further than their Range stats indicate.

Flash : Has 25% higher Dexterity than their stats indicate.

Will To Live : Has 25% more HP than their stats indicate.

Stealth : Can evade a battle at any given time. This ability can only be used once for every three battles encountered. Increases chances of success for stealth oriented missions/tasks by 50%.

Teamwork : In joint battles, ALL stats of ALL members of your party (including your own) are boosted by 25%. This is added after adding any stat bonuses a party member has by default.

Survival Instincts : All stats are boosted by 25% when you are below 1/4 of your total HP. This boost is added after adding any bonuses you may already have by default.

Marksman : Accuracy is 25% higher than stats indicate.

Spy : This ability allows you to see the stats of any enemies in sight, even before battling, as well as stats of enemies you will encounter on a mission, before accepting the mission (the latter does not include unexpected enemy encounters that may occour on the way to the mission site).

Healer : Any party member you are around will receive a 25% boost in hp and hp recovery rating, as well as injury and wound recovery. This bonus also applies to your HP and Recovery.

More boring stuff that you don't have to read.

Glossary :
HP - HP is your health. If it hits 0, you will be taken back to the Resistance Headquarters, and will lose all of your current exp (you will not lose any levels you have gained), 25-50% of your BP, and you may be looted.

Dexterity - Dexterity is how fast you can move, and how likely you are to evade an attack.

Recovery - Recovery is how fast you will recover from injuries and how fast your HP will regenerate.

Accuracy - Accuracy is how likely you are to hit a target.

Range - Range is how far you can strike from. The maximum distance your weapon is capable of is not necessarily indicative of how far you can strike from (ex. if your weapon can hit from twenty feet, based on your Range, you may only be able to hit from ten feet). Firing from further than you are capable of will result in a drop of accuracy. Also, some weapons will only be available if you have a high enough range rating.

First Strike - A first strike, much like it sounds, is given to the person who attacks first in a battle. Landing the first strike doubles the damage dealt by the attack. If the first attack misses, and the person that evaded it lands the first actual hit, it does not count as a first strike.

Surprise Attack - A surprise attack is when a player attacks an opponent from behind, or while the foe is not looking and is unaware of the players presence. A surprise attack deals double damage, in addition to stunning the enemy for one turn.

And finally: Explaining the battle system

Stats of both parties in a battle will be factored in to determine the most likely outcome. Using my advanced high tech decision making method (rolling a die lol), I will determine what happens. The maximum number you can roll is a direct reflection of your accuracy (when attacking) and Dexterity (when being attacked).

Stats will be affected by the area the battle takes place in (ex. A freight yard provides more cover than an open field, and so will boost your dexterity. A wet field will be slick, and so decreases dexterity. Fog makes it harder to see, and so decreases accuracy and range. etc).

Bio: Paul has been in a life of crime during his entire life. He started out as a convenience store robber, then finally worked his way up to armed robbery. He has killed many people who have made him angry. He was finally caught and thrown into prison when he was 23. When the government collapsed, he fled from the prison and tried to start a new life. Paul can kill anyone with no remorse, and he does not feel bad about the things he's done. He however does not want anyone to know about his past in this new world.

Alright, we'll be starting this in about an hour. Make sure you're happy with your character and stats. If you aren't, just edit your post to reflect the changes you want, and PM me, so I'll know to change my copy of your character profile (I will use this for quick reference as you level up). If you are happy with it, don't worry about posting yet. I don't want anyone to get temporarily locked out for having too many posts in a small space. I will edit this post in an hour (8:30 pm, server time), and add the opening to the story. Check back in anytime after that. Enter The Crash
Two shots ring out, and the body of a seventeen year old girl falls lifeless to the gravel floor of the alleyway. The gunman was a twenty year old, thin male, with short black hair, and blue eyes. His name: Jadin Frost. The girl, a nameless youth whom Jadin had never laid eyes on before. He walks over to the body, and using his own coat, silently places it over her, taking care to cover her face. The cold New York winds beat against Jadin mercilessly, but he doesn't seem to notice it; compared to the cold he feels inside, it seems like a summer breeze. He can't shake the feeling that his efforts are all in vain, and he finds himself wishing that poor girl would have had the quickest reflexes. Then he wouldn't have to live this nightmare any longer, and she would still be alive. It hasn't always been this way, just a few months ago life was normal and peaceful. Then it happened.

The crash.

The date is January 3rd, 2015, and Jadin is a member of a group simply known as the resistance. Three months ago the world economy finally collapsed; money -of all forms- is completely worthless. Many have been the times that Jadin has seen $100 bills blowing down the street, uncoveted. No one takes money for services rendered anymore, as it is simply not spendable, and as a result, there are no workers at the power plants, or any other utility facilities for that matter. There is no electricity, no police, no firefighters, no hospitals, nothing. Just days after the collapse, Jadin had to watch his best friend die from a gun shot wound, simply because no one would help. Apparently lack of reward suddenly made saving a human life unimportant to even the most renowned doctors. Jadin had no proper way to see his friend off, so he dropped his body in a nearby lake. With no police around, people show their darker side much more freely. Many have been killed simply because no one cared enough to intervene. No one can be trusted, and no one trusts; approaching another person often ends with a bullet in your chest, fired out of fear. This is the the state that the world is in, and it doesn't look to change...ever.

As he rounds the alleyway corner, Jadin meets up with his partner on this failed mission: Cally. She had seen the whole thing, and together in silence, Jadin and Cally walk through the tall barred gate, which hangs from the top hinge only, showing their makeshift I.D.s that the resistance leaders made for them to the guards, who let them pass.
The resistance is a group that struggles to implement a form of order, wiping out local gangs and mobs that have begun to abound and try to force their rule upon the citizens, killing all who oppose them. The job of the resistance is greater than this alone however, as the self proclaimed "Mayor" of their city is now trying to use what unstable power he has left to oppress the people in a reign of tyrrany. The military troops that would normally handle this situation lie dead overseas. They were engaged in war with a foreign threat, but when the economy collapsed, people the world over immediately overthrew their governments, destroying all military units, and all government establishments. No one country trusted another, and so no one helped the other. In a matter of three months, the masses of underpowered citizens managed to overthrow all of their governments. Numbers apparently outweighed the firepower and defences the big guys had. That's not to say that they went down easily, no the people lost many lives, but in the end they were the ones left standing. Unfortunately, the anarchy was most often led by men and women that wanted to dominate the people below them, and as such, rarely lasted long before they too were overthrown, resulting in total chaos where there is rarely a leader or group of leaders. Everyone does whatever they want, and are brave enough to do. This is what the resistance tries to eliminate, and establish order again.
"Well I see you made it back in one piece. That's victory enough, I suppose" a man says to Jadin as he and Cally enter the abandoned school building that serves as their HQ. "I suppose that depends on who you ask, now doesn't it, Steve?" Jadin replies emotionless "Sometimes I feel like I'm just killing people we disagree with." he adds as he walks up the stairs briskly to avoid further discussion. "Now Jadin" Steve begins his lecture, but stops as he realizes Jadin isn't sticking around for it. Cally simply shrugs, and heads to the old gymnasium which has been converted into a weapons lab.


Begining the Game
Make your way to the Resistance head quarters. You begin three blocks away, and you may travel one block per round, or if you wish, you may travel two blocks at once, but in doing so, you risk being caught off guard by an attack, and forfeit your chance to perform an action.

Announce where you are starting from (North, East, South, West) in relation to the center. If you enter the same block as another member, you may pair up if you wish. Join : If another player is on the block you are on, you may join them. You resign control of your character the next turn however, as you will automatically follow them. This action may be performed before moving if you begin on the same block as another player, and you will forfeit this turn.

Use : Allows you to use an inventory item. You may also perform this action before moving. You begin with no items.

Cover : Allows you to take cover behind a wall, box, or whatever item you specify, increasing your dexterity (ability to avoid gunfire) during a fight.

Rest : Skip your next turn, and in exchange, increase your HP recovery rate for the turn by 150%. You cannot be attacked during this turn. You may only rest once every four turns, and no more than twice during a single task/mission.

Return To HQ : Return to HQ in one turn from anywhere (unless stated otherwise).

Mission Board

Clear A Path, Part1 : Mr. Thompson has decided it's time to confront the wanna-be mayor tyrant. However, the route is blocked in several places. Help eliminate the foes that block the path to the tyrant. This Mission pays 600 exp before Team deductions.

Save A Supply Camp : A group of Rogues has been raiding one of the supply camps, killing some of the gardeners, and stealing the produce.

Stop a group of thugs that are terrorizing a neighborhood : This is a simple "Eliminate all of the bad guys" Mission. There are 3 thugs in the group. It may be best to take a friend or two on this one.

Clear a warehouse : Several Rogues have banded together to survive. Recently, they have begun stealing food from innocents, and killing all who enter the nearby area, regardless of age. Last week, a five year old was reportedly gunned down by these tyrant wannabes. This warehouse is one of the bases in their group, and currently houses three Rogues. This is another Elimination job.

Sentry duty : Search the block for any threats to the teams moving in and out of the HQ. Offers 100 exp before team deductions.

Gather supplies : Search for scrap metals and hunt for food. You may encounter foes, so keep your guard up. Offers 100 exp before team deductions.

Alright, we'll be starting this in about an hour. Make sure you're happy with your character and stats. If you aren't, just edit your post to reflect the changes you want, and PM me, so I'll know to change my copy of your character profile (I will use this for quick reference as you level up). If you are happy with it, don't worry about posting yet. I don't want anyone to get temporarily locked out for having too many posts in a small space. Enter The Crash
Two shots ring out, and the body of a seventeen year old girl falls lifeless to the gravel floor of the alleyway. The gunman was a twenty year old, thin male, with short black hair, and blue eyes. His name: Jadin Frost. The girl, a nameless youth whom Jadin had never laid eyes on before. He walks over to the body, and using his own coat, silently places it over her, taking care to cover her face. The cold New York winds beat against Jadin mercilessly, but he doesn't seem to notice it; compared to the cold he feels inside, it seems like a summer breeze. He can't shake the feeling that his efforts are all in vain, and he finds himself wishing that poor girl would have had the quickest reflexes. Then he wouldn't have to live this nightmare any longer, and she would still be alive. It hasn't always been this way, just a few months ago life was normal and peaceful. Then it happened.

The crash.

The date is January 3rd, 2015, and Jadin is a member of a group simply known as the resistance. Three months ago the world economy finally collapsed; money -of all forms- is completely worthless. Many have been the times that Jadin has seen $100 bills blowing down the street, uncoveted. No one takes money for services rendered anymore, as it is simply not spendable, and as a result, there are no workers at the power plants, or any other utility facilities for that matter. There is no electricity, no police, no firefighters, no hospitals, nothing. Just days after the collapse, Jadin had to watch his best friend die from a gun shot wound, simply because no one would help. Apparently lack of reward suddenly made saving a human life unimportant to even the most renowned doctors. Jadin had no proper way to see his friend off, so he dropped his body in a nearby lake. With no police around, people show their darker side much more freely. Many have been killed simply because no one cared enough to intervene. No one can be trusted, and no one trusts; approaching another person often ends with a bullet in your chest, fired out of fear. This is the the state that the world is in, and it doesn't look to change...ever.

As he rounds the alleyway corner, Jadin meets up with his partner on this failed mission: Cally. She had seen the whole thing, and together in silence, Jadin and Cally walk through the tall barred gate, which hangs from the top hinge only, showing their makeshift I.D.s that the resistance leaders made for them to the guards, who let them pass.
The resistance is a group that struggles to implement a form of order, wiping out local gangs and mobs that have begun to abound and try to force their rule upon the citizens, killing all who oppose them. The job of the resistance is greater than this alone however, as the self proclaimed "Mayor" of their city is now trying to use what unstable power he has left to oppress the people in a reign of tyrrany. The military troops that would normally handle this situation lie dead overseas. They were engaged in war with a foreign threat, but when the economy collapsed, people the world over immediately overthrew their governments, destroying all military units, and all government establishments. No one country trusted another, and so no one helped the other. In a matter of three months, the masses of underpowered citizens managed to overthrow all of their governments. Numbers apparently outweighed the firepower and defences the big guys had. That's not to say that they went down easily, no the people lost many lives, but in the end they were the ones left standing. Unfortunately, the anarchy was most often led by men and women that wanted to dominate the people below them, and as such, rarely lasted long before they too were overthrown, resulting in total chaos where there is rarely a leader or group of leaders. Everyone does whatever they want, and are brave enough to do. This is what the resistance tries to eliminate, and establish order again.
"Well I see you made it back in one piece. That's victory enough, I suppose" a man says to Jadin as he and Cally enter the abandoned school building that serves as their HQ. "I suppose that depends on who you ask, now doesn't it, Steve?" Jadin replies emotionless "Sometimes I feel like I'm just killing people we disagree with." he adds as he walks up the stairs briskly to avoid further discussion. "Now Jadin" Steve begins his lecture, but stops as he realizes Jadin isn't sticking around for it. Cally simply shrugs, and heads to the old gymnasium which has been converted into a weapons lab.

Two months have passed since I had narrowly escaped. Men wearing ridiculous sports equipment meant to act as armor. I was sneaking through the Steel City (Pittsburgh), scavenging empty apartment buildings finding almost empty bottles of water and the rotting corpses of families. The smell was terrible. The loot, although better than nothing, was crap. I think to myself that maybe I'd have better luck in smaller towns nearby, but then they might still have people living there and people guarding them for any kind of bandit or murderer. Just then I hear a blast tear through the sky followed by screaming. It's a man. I slowly run outside to see if it's of any concern to me, I hear a second man yelling "Anybody please help ! He's been shot ! Help please !" I sneak up to check out if it's a trap, the man looks legitimately injured I can't just leave him like this if there's anything I can do then I have to. I run up yelling "what happened?" he responds "The idiot was cleaning his gun and it went off shot him in the leg, please help him !" I take a look at his wound see that its just a clean shot, it didn't hit an artery, I hand him a towel to bite down on for pain, I grab my pliers out of my pocket and proceed to remove the bullet from his gaping leg and dress his wound." The man that was yelling offered me a position at his compound as a medic, feeling that I would have a better chance of surviving if I joined them, I did. Coming upon the compound I remember barbed fences watch towers on each of the four corners with guards carrying Marksman Carbines. I started to think that this wasn't such a good idea. They set me up in a well sized room in the basement, with pretty much the only thing for me doing was removing bullets and mixing remedies for sicknesses. On the 12th day a man came in on a gurney, everybody was making a huge fuss of it, more than any other injury brought to me. He had been in a fight between a scavenger and had been shot in the heart, he was dead before he was even brought in to me. But that didn't seem to change their mind. I was to blame for his death. They decided that I was garbage and no longer wanted me. I was to be taken out to the yard and shot in front of everyone for treachery. It was at that moment that I needed to get out, I grab a guard by the throat moving around to his back, I take his gun and shoot the bandits, while still holding onto him I slowly but surely exit the building taking out the snipers on the watchtowers. and make my way out of there. Back into the Steel City, and decide to head East hearing things by the guards about a Resistance, "I need to get there, there isn't anywhere else for me to go." and slowly but surely I head to New York City.

My move: I begin West of the Resistance HQ, I move 1 block east towards HQ and Look around.

Cody has no weapons other then the old switch blade in his pocket. He opens and closes it, click, click, click. All of my brothers. Dead. What do I do now. I can't just lay in the gutter and wait to die. He peeks out of the ally making sure that no one is out or at least out in the open. "Ok this is my best chance to move." If the other player accepts, the two will work together until one player indicates otherwise, or they reach their destination. The player that uses "Join" may not move or make any other decision on their own this turn.

Running through the streets of New York, Paul was remembering where he had come from.  A rotting prison on the outskirts of New Jersey, he hasn't moved far from the prison as he only crossed the bridge into New York.  He had seen many horrible things in the crash, including horrible things he has done.  He doesn't feel any remorse for these things.  All Paul wants to do is survive.  

 My move:

Starting point : 3 blocks north of HQ

Movement: 1 block south

Action:  Look

As Paul runs south down one of the long New York streets, he thinks he hears a noise.  He stops running and ducks down behind a totalled car.  He looks through the smashed windows to see if you can see something, or someone.  If anyone is there, he isn't hesitant to kill to keep going.  He knows what he has to do.

(OOC:  Sorry this was late,  I have been preparing for my exams next week and haven't had any time to use my imagination XD)
