So while doing some E3 lookup, I came across another Pokémon article which confirmed the release date of X & Y. However the biggest news to me however was the announcement of a new Pokémon type. So everyone welcome to the Pokémon universe...

Fairy-type Pokémon.

According to the article, Fairy-type Pokémon will be super-effective against Dragon Pokémon, so now you can chose between either a Fairy, Ice, or Dragon Pokémon to deal with a trainer who uses Dragon Pokémon. The article also confirmed the following Pokémon are Fairy-types...

Sylveon (or Eevee's New Evolved form)
Jigglypuff
Gardevoir
Marill

I'm also willing to bet that Cliffary and Chansey might also be Fairy-types; but I'm not sure; I'm just making an educated guess.

So what are your thoughts about this? Is Fairy-type Pokémon a good fit? Should it be effective against Dragon? Also what other Pokémon do you all believe will be listed as Fairy Pokémon?

Hey there! .. How are you? I'm Great! This is an awesome thread and a very good question.

I was watching the E3, It's brilliant so far. I don't particularly like this 'new' type of Pokémon because it sounds too feminine for me, I'm not being sexist but it doesn't seem like a really good idea. The word 'Fairy' makes me instantly think of, well you know, fairy tail things. This type doesn't sound as awesome and as powerful as the other types 'Dark, Fire, Dragon,', those names sound really good, and instantly tell us what they are and what they will be effective against / weakest against. However, I really love the concept of Sylveon as I am a huge fan of the eeveelutions. Sylveon is particularly pretty Pokémon and relates to the rest of the eeveelutions.

Overall, I don't like the new idea of Fairy types, and it really shouldn't be effective against dragons.

This was leaked ages ago. The type is suppose to be weak to Steel types. Also the leak had already noted it being strong against dragons... yet another super annoying weakness to the dragon type. Anyway at the same time as the leak a lot of other information had already been leaked so this isn't even new to me since well I've known this for about two months, yet again E3 fails to excite me by giving me more already leaked news.

Cliffary is will probably be a fairy since "normal" type is rather vague filled with Pokémon that don't seem to belong there. I would also bet granbull and snubbull will be fairy since they are classed as fairy species in the pokedex.

Strong against Dragon? Well that stinks. Really, I like that they added a new type, and that pretty much means Sylveon will be a fairy type, but fairy? They couldn't just make it light? Well, this far into the series, it might not be good for those that have used the same Pokémon over the years, but I guess we'll see what happens.

patar4097 : I agree I think that Light should have been added as a new Pokémon and move type. Make it a part of the "Ghost cycle..."

Psychic is weak against Ghost
Ghost is weak against Dark
Dark is weak against Light
Light is weak against Psychic

Either Light or Sound (since we have moves such as Howl, Uproar, and Growl). I would have suggested Blood, but that would wouldn't fit in a Pokémon game.

Although I guess Fairy moves might be considered "Light"

Oldschool41 : Yeah, it should go with the Ghost types. It's sounds like it should have nothing to do with steel or dragon. It should be the opposite of dark, at least if it's going to be a "light" type. It would be interesting if they made dark weak to fairy, and fairy was weak to dark. It would make some interesting battles.

This is cool how you found this and I think it sucks that these wimpy type of Pokémon are super effective against dragon type which are actually strong. I liked it when only a few things were effective against it and now there is a new type that can do damage to it. It might come out as a bit of a shock to more experienced Pokémon players and they may have to come up with a new team since it is effective against dragon which I think stinks, Overall though I like the idea of light and sound type Pokémon though, those sound pretty cool, I think that some of these new types of Pokémon have potential, jut think it is a little bit weird how it effects dragon....

How is a puny fairy able to defeat a demon dragon? How is that possibly possible? I can't even imagine it. Imagine Tinkerbell making the Hungarian Horntail faint! I don't know how Game Freak and Nintendo allowed this!

well, I am liking them choosing wisely about new types, moves, pokemon. X and Y are a whole new game...or so it seems...I like this idea.

Well, I've changed my mind. I don't really like it anymore. Apparently they are changing Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, Marril, and Sylveon are going to be fairy type. But not CleFAIRY? Well....ok.

I think it is just going to mess everything up. If was only for new Pokémon, like I thought it should have been, and didn't change too many type advantages. Like Razor said, this will possibly mess many people's teams up.

patar4097 : They said that Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, Marill, and Sylveon were SOME of the pokemon to be fairy type. I don't  think that means only those pokemon will be fairy type, but if the cleffa evolutionary line isn't fairy type, that is a huge fail.

They wanted to make the Dragon type more balanced? I think they could have just made more Ice type pokemon, Ice type moves, or just make Ice types availible to catch in the beginning of the game. A new type isn't really necessary, but it's still a nice addition.

fusionaceblus : Right, I know others will be fairy. But those were just the ones that were positively going to be fairy. Not to mention, it will be pretty hard to make a strong looking Pokemon that has it's type named "fairy". -__-

This will probably kill half of the original normal types in the original generations and I was hoping for a different type such as light they have dark but no light type.

Yeah this new fairy type...I just lost all respect for Pokemon there really is no need for a fairy type Pokemon, it can easily be grouped into with the normal type Pokemon, personally I feel like this is just a rumor and that isn't a new type. Also who at E3 leaked it unless it was announced  by either  Gamefreak or Nintendo I think its just a silly rumor.

The whole fairy type thing sounds completely lame and a rip off of stuff that Yu-Gi-Oh has already done. I don't like the idea of marill being changed from a water type to a fairy type. Honestly i hate this idea and the people who have decided 2 make this type are really stupid for doing so. And a fairy shouldn't be supper effective against a dragon type at all! That is like saying that Tinkerbell can beat the crap out of Nidhogg. It just wouldn't happen.

bloodyb : Well I think Marill will instead become a Water/Fairy type, since Marill has always been a Water type since Gen 2. This will also be the same for Gardenvoir who will be a Psychic/Fairy type. Also glad to see I'm not the only one who knows the Nidhogg. =)

austipokedude : Most likely, but then again Normal types do need some "end-game" bonuses. Maybe if someone grinds with a normal type Pokémon for a decent amount of time; then they will be awarded with the Fairy type that will allow them to face against Dragon-types if they haven't caught an Ice or Dragon Pokémon.

Speaking on Fairy class, I'm willing to bet that Fairy is what Nintendo calls the "Light" class. Just like how the Ghost class is more of a "Shadow" class; but they just call it Ghost. Of course there is still the issue of how it can be super-effective against Dragon types.

Don't suppose anyone can find something as to how Fairy's could beat Dragons?

I have no problem with Fairy being the new type, and don't c y people r negative bout it being strong against Dragon types. I kinda like the new type because it's a little similar to light.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
