Just wanted to let everyone know that Retro City Rampage has been released for XBLA today. For a mere 800MSP (9.99$) This game can be yours! This games demo was a huge hit at E3 and other gaming conventions 2 years ago...and the LONG wait is finally over!

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Retro-City-Rampage/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258411285

It's basically a Retro throwback "Spoof" of games like Grand Theft Auto with pop culture tie ins from the time like Back to the Future.

It's been our for Steam for a few months but I wanted to play it on XBLA for the achievements for awhile. (Also on sale for 9.99) http://store.steampowered.com/app/204630/

Wii version coming soon as well.

and I believe it's out for PS3 as well

Info from their FB post:

"RETRO CITY RAMPAGE out now on Xbox LIVE® Arcade!
Only 800 MSP!

Nostalgic Open World Carjacking and Rampaging. Over 60 story missions, 40 arcade challenges, 50 vehicles, 25 weapons and power-ups, 200 character customizations and special crossover minigames including Virtual Meat Boy, BIT.TRIP: Retro City and Epic Meal Time: Epic Might Test!"

https://www.facebook.com/RetroCityRampage?ref=ts&fref=ts

It's an indie game totally worth checking out! I will write a review (Currently DLing it to my Xbox) once I've played it for awhile.

Let me know your thoughts. Have you been waiting for this game too?

thing1 : Yeah dude I've been playing it for the past half an hour or so and it's a Riot. So far I have had quests that were parodies of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Back to the Future and many classic video game/Cartoon/TV references like mario and TMNT. I don't want to give any of it away but if you are a classic game fan (especially NES) this game is a riot. Totally worth 10$ so far. Well done.

You mean from the home page on XBLA? I just usually go to the website on my PC and it sends the download request to my xbox. Much easier. If you are doing it on your xbox just search for the name.

That sounds awesome. I don't know if I will buy it though, since I need my money to pay for college. Maybe I'll buy it some other time. I definitely like retro games, and also grand theft auto, so it seems like something I'd like.

bobq : Yeah it's a great game if you love "Retro Style" stuff. Really funny so far of what I have played. For sure worth the price tag.

Aside from the story mode there is a bunch of arcade time attack stuff as well.

austipokedude : It's not really like Grand Theft auto so much. I mean you can kill people and steal cars and whatnot but it's all done in NES "Retro" style graphics. So I guess if you put GTA on the NES, then yeah.

Lots of Comedy, and fun to be had. Lots of fun pop culture mixed in as well. I've been having a great time playing it so far.

I have mixed opinions about this. I don't like Grand Theft Auto games because of the pointless killing, drug use, etc. However, since this game is sorta a tribute to retro games of the late 80s, I might consider trying it out. I did try out the demo when it came out on the PS3 and it was pretty fun (but violent but not so gory). I may buy this now that it's out on the Xbox 360, it may give me some inspiration of some sort.

Fun Fact: This game started out as a homebrew rom for the Nintendo NES.

Davideo7 : I understand your reservations but I just want to put it out there to people that might want to play it that the Violence in this game is on par with any NES violence. No blood or guts or anything crazy. Heck, a game like Smash TV or N.A.R.C. from the 80's and 90's is more violent than what I have seen in this game.

It's all just a big nod to all of the great classic games, cartoons and movies that everyone loves from the era. It's worth the price and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I didn't know that about this being an NES homebrew. Although I shouldn't be surprised given a lot of games get their starts that way.

Jordanv78 : More specifically, it was going to be a port of Grand Theft Auto to the NES called 'Grand Theftendo'.

Yeah the lack of gore in this game is the main reason why I'll be getting it.

It would be cool if games like these also got release on the NES as well as the XBLA and PSN. Mega Man 9 is an example of another game that would've been sweet to have ported to the NES as well, I'm sure there are tons of collectors like myself who would've bought the NES version even after getting the XBLA version (capcom even made a press kit with a case that resembles an NES cartridge as seen here which goes for $300+ on ebay).

Davideo7 : Yeah I hear ya. It would be awesome if companies would take a nod back to the old systems more often. Honestly I have a lot of fun playing games like these (When they are done right) it would be sweet if I could get an NES cart version of it.

I have seen posts about the press kit before and seen it on eBay...and really want it too just never have the money to spend on something like that.

Wow this sounds amazing because the Nintendo entertainment system was epic and now we get a spoof of a game for it on Xbox 360 so I can't wait.

Davideo7 : I didn't get as much time playing it yesterday as I wanted but from what I could tell there was no multiplayer support although I will look into it further when I sit down to play it tonight. (Can't Wait) I'm pretty sure there is no ONLINE multiplayer though.

From what I saw there's the story mode, Arcade challenges and a free roaming mode. As well as support for video replays when you do cool stuff ;-). There is also leaderboard support for the Arcade challenges.

Scarr13 : It's definitely a game you should check out if you have 800 MSP lying around from Christmas.

Jordanv78 : I suppose the leaderboards are good enough, those always increase the replay value of games for me (and so do achievements) since it encourages me to compete against the scores of the friends on my list. Speaking of friends on my list, I don't know if anyone on my list will be getting the game so maybe we could add each other? My Xbox live gamertag is the same as my vizzed board username.

Davideo7 : Yeah I hear ya. I think that the developer was pretty focused on making this a fairly deep adventure game and stay true to the nostalgic feel as far as every aspect of the game. Oh I forgot to mention that there are xbox live avatar rewards hidden in the game as well as like 20 achievements which also adds to the replay value.

I do admit that it would be cool to quest together though lol.

My gamertag is MasterofDizastR I'll add you when I get online a little bit later.

I've been hearing very awesome things about this game. Most of my friends who have played it have fell in love with it. I'll probably have to download it soon.

thorshammer56 : Yeah I have to admit that it's a really great indie title. There are so many hidden things in the game that just crack you up and/or make you smile. Also the game is a lot of fun to play. Hard to find NEW games that are this fun for that price.

Whether you get it on Steam or XBLA (or the other platforms) it's totally a great game. ESPECIALLY if you enjoy "Retro" games
