Glitches in video games have existed pretty much since video games have existed. Even games like the original Pacman had glitches, when reaching level 256, the game goes completely insane due to there technically not being a level 256.

In this thread, we discuss about your favorite video game glitches. From glitches that are programming quirks, such as the infamous MISSINGNO., to being able to get out of bounds of maps like Gran Turismo 5.

I'll start!

One of my favorite glitches goes back to Earthbound on the SNES (Or Mother 2 if you prefer) was standing in the RIGHT spot inside the tent in Threed; the tent where you lure all the zombies to.
In a very very specific spot in the tent; you have to be standing pixel perfect in the right spot; if you try to check in this location several times, the game's buffer COMPLETELY overflows and the game goes completely insane because of it. Almost literally ANYTHING can happen at this point. From just little bits of random gibberish being in the text box and then the game is fine, to the game completely hysterically breaking apart. (I'd post a video example, but I'm still a newbie! But try Youtubing "Threed Tent glitch" and clicking the second video for a real good example of how crazy it can get).

Anyone else got really insane glitches that they love, either for their uniqueness, being cool, or are just plain completely weird?

One which I came across (although I'm not certain every copy featured it) was in "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" for the Nintendo 64. On beginner mode there is this one bottomless pit which you can get stuck in if you fall into it in just the right way. You sort of get squeezed into the corner of the pit for no good reason. You can't move around down there but if you start adjusting the camera and looking up and down repeatedly, somehow you end up getting slowly propelled out of the pit and into the sky, as though you were on an invisible jack. Eventually you end up above the clouds. You're stuck there, of course, and have to restart, but at the same time there was something pretty and almost awe-inspiring about soaring into a secret place in the clouds, and I felt a vague irrational pride at having discovered a game secret no one else seemed to know about, however accidentally.

I like Missingno. I might have said world -1, but I have never been able to do it. But if the first time you see Missingno was in your room, in the dark with the sound on at midnight, seeing Missingno would probably be very creepy.

Yeah, Missingno probably was my number one glitch; made the game easier and let me customize my team more! Multiple use of TMs instead of one per game was a big thing. Over the years, I kind of hoped Nintendo would make "Missingno" an official Pokémon, or even just a legend. It has all the right elements: A mysterious bird bent on ripping the fabric of time and space itself!

I also love a glitch I recently found in the PlayStation game, Darkstone, where one item the black smith sells can be bought cheaper than what it sells. I suppose that is not so much a glitch, but more an oversight I suppose...

The Rainbow Road shortcut in Mario Kart 64 was pretty epic and a great way to surprise people too, but again, was more likely an oversight of some sort. Same as the Wario Stadium one, where you could barely hop over a hill into the last stretch of the course... if you had a mushroom or picked up the right momentum.

I believe the trick in Mario Kart 7 where if you fell off at a certain point in Maka Wuhu, you would be transported further ahead in the course could count as a glitch, as Nintendo actually sent out an update to fix it, haha. That really isn't my favorite, but it certainly was kind of fun to play around with.

EDIT: Of course, I think of one more glitch that I really enjoyed AFTER I had hit the submit button. I forgot how on Dance Dance Revolution: Extreme in the arcade, there was a trick to finding alternate steps to songs. It involved getting said songs on the "most popular songs" marathon list. You would then alternate back and forth with hat and a song that had oni steps to it and somehow, the Oni step color would bleed over a song in the same position. I remember finding and loving the alternate steps to the song "Love Shine" on singles! Not all songs qualified like this, but there was a few other songs that had alternate steps that were not available firsthand.

Probably the multiple different speed glitches that pop up in Sonic Unleashed, such as the QSS (Quick Step Slide) for example. They can result in some pretty good speedruns that seem pretty professional (As far as Speedruns go for Sonic Unleashed)and very interesting, Nya~.

The "damage overflow" glitch in some RPGs is amazing to accomplish. Good example is in FF7, where you can potentially do enough damage to kill Emerald Weapon in one hit! (Getting 65,536 kills with Vincent's Death Penalty makes it a reality.)

A more simple glitch that I like is leaving the map/level and ending up somewhere you're not supposed to be in. I liked doing this a lot in the Half-Life games.

Fire Emblem for GBA. The mine glitch this is where you lay down a mine an enemy steps on it right then you want to turn the power off. Now you turn it back on press resume and boom you get to control the enemies for the rest of their turn.

My favourite that is practical is the "Blaster Master" One hit, Pause, One Kill, Glitch.
Every one has heard of the fourth day glitch in "Majora's Mask" by now. I wonder if its real. I have yet to attempt it. We all have experienced the living dead glitches from "F.P.S. Games." The funny one I want to try is from "Red Dead Redemption". The Animal People glitch.
I like the Final Fantasy Glitch mentioned earlier with the way to kill Emerald Weapon in one hit. Wonder if it can work on Ruby Weapon I still have yet to defeat that thing. Emerald is Gone But Ruby Still burns my hide. Thanks For the Tip. I'll dust off that copy of F.F.7. And give it a go.
... Oh yeah I can't I don't have that any more. Can anyone tell me if it works for the F.F.7. Hack that's in this site? I Wonder how far people went with that project. Thanks in advance.
Getting back to general talk about glitches I want to see more people respond to this thread. Every solid gamer should have at least one Glitch Story to share.
Good Luck To All.
That's it. I'm Done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

That's a tough choice. One that comes to mind is the Hot Coffee mod from Grand Theft Auto. It's pretty hilarious. I don't know if it's considered a glitch..but hey, it's close enough, right?

The only glitch I can think of is one in Red Alert 2. If the Soviets have a barracks and a cloning vat, they can wall of their barracks for free infantry (it doesn't work in Yuri's Revenge, nor with the latest patch).

MissingNo. is by far the coolest glitch. I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but I remember a long time ago when I was around maybe 10 or 11 I was playing Blue Version and had been doing the MissingNo glitch then my rival showed up. He had all these random pokemon that weren't part of the usual game play. They were also glitched and messed up. I would like to know if anyone else experienced that.

One interesting glitch I had tried once was in OoT was before you got the Kokiri sword or Deku Shield you could walk up to the Kokiri that would block your way and get through by slightly pulling on ( I think ) the side of the cartridge and walk through. Then you would have to push the cartridge back down so everything went back to normal and then you could go on without anything. Even though it wasn't that useful it was sorta cool. ; p

I honestly can't remember the name of the game; it was an old NES game that featured a little crappy guy shooting stuff as you run across blocky green and brown landscapes. I think you might have been a ninja or something. Anyway, there was this glitch that cropped up a lot; if you tried to jump over a pit and shoot at the same time, your shot would literally get stuck in mid-air and you could kill yourself by running into the shot. I died quite a few times that way accidentally, and then of course we did it a lot on purpose just because we were ten years old and that kind of thing was hilarious.
I honestly can't remember the name of the game; it was an old NES game that featured a little crappy guy shooting stuff as you run across blocky green and brown landscapes. I think you might have been a ninja or something. My favorite glitches are the Missingno. Glitch, and Mew glitch both from Pokémon Red and Blue. My favorite out of the two is the Missingno. Glitch.
