Ohno, not Megaman. This ought to be pretty tough, especially the Wily's Castle in this game.

Finally. A mega man competition. I've been waiting a while for this. Something I might have a chance to win. But with rcarter out there this will be tough. let the better blue bomber prevail.

I wonder how many MM fans we actually have here. I took a peak at the MM Franchise section and it seemed pretty dead. I might give this one a try but I usually suck at speed runs since I have trouble actually beating games without dying a million times >.>

I'm not even sure I can legitimately beat the first MM game either. Yellow Devil always gets me.

The best I can ever do for speed runs is like a single stage (I used to compete in Sonic 2 all the time for getting the fastest zone clear times) but if I'm doing the whole game, I fail epically because I just keep dying on the late game bosses or final boss.

Ah, Mega Man? This is an interesting Speed Run Comp. I never really thought this could be speedrun'd. Then again, everything can. Good luck, fellow users.

I'd like to think a better ending screen would be that of Wily bowing to your awesomeness instead of the bonus points tally. But meh.

Last run on this game was for score. Speed really isn't my thing, but I'll see what others post up and see if I can try to challenge it. You pretty much have to have a no death run to get a really good time, though. So this is pretty much for those players who are actually skilled at the game.

Crazy Li : If I remember correctly, this was the shortest Mega Man game of all the Mega Man games for the NES. Now I don't remember how the difficulty was compared to the rest but I just remember it having a lot less levels.

pacman1755 : This is the only Mega Man game that can be speed runned since it doesn't have passwords.

xmiguel4x : I'm not sure if the Rayman games are short enough to be speed runned.

sonikku : The reason I picked the bonus points tally is because it'd be neat to also be able to see how many points the users tallied up during the game (even if it doesn't affect the results).

Davideo7 : You are correct in that it has 6 Robot Masters, whereas Mega Man 2 set the standard for 8 that was never broken after that. That obviously makes less stages, so it's shorter in that regard.

As for difficulty, it's probably one of the hardest Mega Man games there are. The enemies swarm you and you can't catch a break. It's really not a game where you can feasibly kill everything on screen before moving on as there's just two many enemies that never go away. In later Mega Man games, you can usually just blast everything that comes at you as you go along. In the original, you pretty much have to run for your life most of the time, because you'll die trying to actually fight every single enemy.

That said, if you've trained yourself to play that way, you'll do a good speed run. Being good at running away will take you less time than staying and fighting anyway. You just have to know how to flee without dying in the process.

You can ask several people which Mega Man game is the hardest and you'll get several different answers. I hear a lot of people say the first one, especially if they started with a really easy game like MM2 and then went to 1. It might also be considered the hardest if it was your first experience with the series, since it's a pretty mean introduction.

I personally find MM6 to be the most challenging of the original 8 games... but when they made MM9, I think they pretty cleanly surpassed the difficulty of 6. 9 was just brutal for me. If I had the order the entire original series from most to least difficult, I would order them as: 9, 6, 1, 5, 10, 8, 7*, 4, 3, 2

MM7 is a little tricky to rank. I placed it where it falls in regards to difficulty of stage layouts and difficulty of enemies in the most basic sense. However, I feel 7 becomes a much harder game when you take into account the limited screen space you have due to the ratio between Mega Man's sprite and the screen as compared to the NES games. I've seen a fan representation of what MM7 would be like in 8-bit style. Doing things this way entirely fixes the problem and makes 7 a much more manageable game to play, so it would fall between 8 and 4. But in its original SNES form, it'd probably be a couple games harder.

Crazy Li : What difficulty is your rank on 10 based on? I recall there being an easy mode and a hard mode to that version of the game. (Thank god for easy mode when trying to get the perfect achievement, no damage taken for the entire game.)

Hmm... I guess I kinda averaged them out? Easy mode kinda takes away the platforming challenge.

If I were to do a Speed Run and submit it and later submit a Speed Run at a later point with a better time, would it count the Speed Run with the better time for the competition?

Crazy Li : Easy mode did a little more than that, actually. Enemies didn't attack as fast, and spread shots had fewer shots to spread around, in addition to the protective platforms. Not entirely sure what hard did, aside from I think add enemies.

sonikku : I know. But the enemies being easier is kinda the thing you EXPECT from an Easy Mode. The extra platforms aren't. So the fact that it made platforming a joke stood out to me more. Hard Mode was the game as Capcom originally intended, so you can't say it "did" anything. It's just that Easy altered Hard. Hard was trying to have the difficulty experienced in MM9.
