What do you guys think of otherkin?

For those unaware, allow me to explain. Know the way some people are like "I am a boy trapped in a girl's body" and then they get a sex change and the like? Well, otherkin are somewhat like that, but more "I am a unicorn trapped in a human's body".

No offence intended to any possible otherkin on the site, but I personally cannot understand it. I don't understand how someone can identify as something that isn't real. It just confuses me.

Anyway, what're your thoughts on this?

Um... it soundss, and not to be offensive, but these sound like crazy people. They might be a little messed up in the head and need some mental help. It really isn't natural for one to actually believe that they're a unicorn.

However, I do get it, since I'm sort of a zebra...

When someone has a deep connection to nature, they may discover their lack of human traits, and more animalistic traits.

It's not like we are gonna go out and having species changes. I'm not suddenly going to decide I want plastic surgery to become a zebra. I think you've got a little bit of a misconception on the subject. For the most part, they are normal people who just have a deep connection to nature.

By way of explanation, someone mentioned otherkin on Tumblr, and since then I've been going through the otherkin tag. All I've really seen so far is talk of phantom limbs and being stressed at work and starting to growl and the like.

I mean, like, I really like cats, but I wouldn't identify as one or anything. 

Could you maybe go into a little more detail about otherkin(s?) please? I'm just really curious about it.

It sounds more to me like you just like tigers, and are saying you have a connection to be different.

You can't just suddenly go "oh, that's me."

It's something that happens over time, through a deep spiritual connection. If you did truly identify, you wouldn't have had that type of a misconception about it.
