I catch the magikarp in a pokeball, and I jump onto my Dragoone, and ride to the north to a safe cave in the middle of the sea, I walk in and lay down on my soft bed I had placed there. (You can steal the Magikarp in the pokeball, or release it, break the pokeball, and use your own, your choice.)

I randomly find the cave while adventuring and see the poke ball, so I steal it and run away. I get far away from the cave and see what Pokémon is in it, I see it is a shiny Magikarp and I see it flopping on the ground. I feel bad for it and fly my personal plane to the ocean (it doesn't matter which) and toss it into the ocean. It looks up at the plane and just stares for a while, and then dives down beneath the waves.

I throw out my OLD Rod into the Ocean, and catch the Shiny Magikarp. 
Me: Oh... it's just a Magikarp
*Walsk to a Pokemon Trading Center, and trades it for a Lvl 24 Pikachu.

THIEF!! I track you down and have my Pokémon tackle you. I take back the Magikarp and flee to Okinawa, Japan. I quickly build a submarine and go underwater to a deep (but not so deep it gets dark) and use a built in launcher to launch the poke ball into the ocean. The Magikarp escapes and swims quickly away.

I use my flying Pikachu to go to Tokyo, Japan. Fortunately I get there before you. I make my Abra use Thief to steal the Magikarp and go to Marquette, Michigan. I keep it in a giant fish tank with other water Pokémon that will not eat it.

You and the Pikachus Diddy. You failed to realize that my remoraid didn't have to eat it, it simply had to weaken it slowly while I used my poke balls on it from the window. I take the shiny magikarp, try to level grind it to 20 and succeed, but it ate an everstone. I get mad and toss it into the ocean not caring where it goes now.

I took the magikarp, took away the everstone, and ran to Team Rocket's HQ. I then sold it to Cassidy and Butch, where they gave it to the Rocket scientists and started experimenting it to try to make it evolve to the red gyrados.
