I've been training in the art of Pukulan Indonesian Kung-Fu for 6 years, and Taekwondo for 1 year. I greatly enjoy both martial arts, but there are key differences between the two, the largest being that Taekwondo is for sport and its self-defense value is questionable, and the Kung - Fu I take is focused on self-defense. How to get out of differend holds, chokes, etc. There are elbow strikes, arm snaps, eye jabs, groin kicks, all sorts of those things. Of course, we use none of those harmful techniques when sparring. Sparring in Pukulan Kung-Fu is much different than sparring in Taekwondo. Sparring in Taekwondo is point-based and sporty, while sparring in Pukulan is free-flowing, with no one keeping track of triumphs. You get knocked down, you fight in tiger on the ground. Quite frequently when sparring it turns into a wrestling match on the ground and it ends up with someone getting pinned - then the one on top leaps off and the fight continues. Studying two completely different styles has greatly helped me in both of them.

I took Tae Kwon Do while I played little league about 9 years ago. I made it all the way to Senior Blue belt. ( they added senior white and senior yellow when I hit senior green)

I used to do Karate, did it for about a year, though I am currently doing TaeKwanDo for about 3 years now, so about 3-4 years in total.

I study Karate and Kickboxing at a local dojo, though it isn't of any particular style. It sort of incorporates a bunch of different techniques from styles such as Aikido, Kenpo, Americana, and Krav Maga. Just some universal Karate I have been studying for only 5 months, but I will be getting my orange belt next weekend and moving into an intermediate class where we focus more on contact sparring and weapons training. It's a great workout!

I was when I was a kid. I got up to a yellow belt. They had a lot of problems and closed up shop before I could go any higher. It was fun while it lasted though.
