I asked geeogree earlier tonight about making this and he gave me the go ahead.

The basic idea of this thread is to help people with coding things. I know that a lot of people have been making layouts lately and just as many have problems with their coding. So ask away!

Things I WILL accept...

*Any miscellaneous questions regarding HTML and CSS
*Help with a post layout/website
*Improving a post layout/website

Things I WON'T accept...

*Telling me to make a layout (i.e. here's a picture, make a layout out of it)
*Questions not involving HTML/CSS (I know a little bit of Javascript and a chunk of PHP, probably not enough to answer your question, though)

And even if it were an issue, I would also have approved this if it made it to the globals. (meaning only 1 other global would have to)

Tis Legit.

Galacta : This thread is actually more concerning people that need help with HTML/CSS, but I suppose I'll answer anyways.

To get the basic concepts of it, I only spent a week or so. Really it's a pick-up-and-use kind of code, everything is self-explanatory. However, some of the newer stuff (like some CSS3 properties) took me a couple of months to get the hang of.

Galacta : There's a big difference between HTML and CSS. I think that I can explain it best in pictures.

Imagine you're making a triangle.

wire frame triangle

This is the HTML of your triangle. It gives the basic design and shows a plain view of what you're aiming for. One might say it's the frame. Now, you could just say, "ok, cool, a triangle, let's publish it".

But what if you wanted to make it look better?

This is where CSS comes in.

complete triangle

CSS is the design portion. It was developed after people wanted to add more detail into their websites beyond the plain HTML tags. It looks a lot better, doesn't it?

Does that help explain it?

alexanyways :
mike345 : You guys are (I'm assuming) basically asking the same question so I'll answer you both at the same time.

Put in the header:
<table><tr><td>

and in the footer:
</tr></td></table>

Of course, you can style your tables any way you want. cellpadding, cellspacing, table bgcolor, border, and many others will all work.

pacman1755 : I learned it from various places. To be honest, the first place I started was http://w3schools.com, but then I learned about how much of the information there is misleading from websites like http://w3fools.com

A lot of my knowledge just came from googling questions about HTML/CSS.

mike345 : Can you give me the code to work with?

Anyways, I replaced the age-old opacity filters with rgba values.

So I've been trying to practice setting up a very simple web page for practice, and I wanted to give it a simple navigation menu under the title. I want a couple different sections with a link under each one. The section should display each link when you hover over it, but I don't want it to force the text downwards messing up the layout. I tried using z-index, sort of. I'm not sure if I did that right.

So for my question, how would I let the navigation menu function without messing up the layout?

Here's a link to what I've done.
