Mega Mewtwo X :

It depends on the size of the "everyone" crowd. If you sell a game to a million people, at 30 dollars per person, you make 30 million dollars gross. If you sell that same game to a half that crowd, you make only 15 million dollars gross.

Then you need to consider the following: are there microtransactions in either game? If so, how many people are buying? How much does it cost per microtransaction? It's too hard to put into a small box like that.

Is there DLC for the genuinely good game to make up the money? Is there DLC for the game that caters to everyone?

My first instinct is that the game that caters to everyone will be more financially successful, even if it's a worse game.

Have you ever helped someone with getting a specific game in exchange for Viz? Basically someone offering a bunch of Viz to whoever gives him/her a specific game or code for the game. I've tried doing that before with no luck.

TouchMaster97 :

Like... helped them find someone to buy the game for them or buy the game for them myself?

In both cases the answer is no. There's a very low amount of people willing to exchange video games for Viz (especially today, five years ago, it's a totally different story, because the vizzed economy wasn't totally busted back then, now you have multiple people in the millions, including myself).

The only person I know who has even exchanged games for Viz in the past year has been zanderlex.

zanderlex :

It's been slow. I worked from home this week, and it wasn't fun. Thankfully I head back to the office next week. We're rotating so not everyone is at work each week.

When’s the last time you shaved? Why did you shave? How did you shave? Do you regret shaving? Do you look older or younger shaved?

becerra95 :

Last time I shaved was two weeks ago. I worked from home this week, so I had no reason to shave. Otherwise, I shave once a week, on Sunday, as part of my routine.

I shaved because I have to look professional at work, since I work in the medical field.

I shaved using a handheld razor. No, not an electric one, just one of those cheapos you get at like Target. Why spend money on something so frivolous?

I don't really regret shaving, I've been told I look better clean shaven (even though I think I honestly look like a teenager after I shave).

Shaven, I've been confused for a 17 year old in high school. I frequently get asked if I'm old enough to have the job I have. I'm 27.

Why hasn't anyone asked you a question in over a month? Actually almost 2 months. That's offensive!

How's life going?

How's work?

How's the wifey?

That's all

I'm just not that popular anymore Either that or people have nothing left to ask, because I answer literally every question. There's nothing for me to hide, so they get no joy out of exposing my secrets.

Life is ok. It's a little complicated at times, because my work at REDACTED keeps me on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, but thankfully, we've mostly avoided sickness. I need to be extra cautious, because my wife is immunocompromised following her fight with cancer (she's cleared!). Then there's a bunch of typical married stuff that's always fun to figure out, and somewhere in between all of this, I have to find time to relax and remember I'm still just one person, and that I also need to take care of myself.

Work, other than the pandemic is great. I work at a highly prestigious medical center, doing what I have pretty much wanted to for the past decade (working in a medical setting). It's unreal to think that this f***ing dumbass who barely finished high school pulled it together and is now working in a medical setting and actually helping. I can feel the difference I've made, and I can often tangibly see it, since patients return later. It's really fulfilling.

Wife is doing great. She's been working from home, and trying to continue holding on to some sense of normalcy. I'm not sure what "normal" is anymore. But I admire her ability to stay on the same level she is all the time. She's going to be fine.

I really like your post. This is evidence to me of education being overrated for a lot of jobs. Not ALL jobs but a lot of them. We have an expectation that people need college degrees in order to be employable yet the vast majority of jobs can be done with a bit of training and mentoring on the job. I'm glad you found something you find fulfilling. I've always enjoyed the work I do but I've never really felt like I was doing something worthwhile.

What kind of cancer did your wife have? Awesome that she has recovered though! Great to hear it.

I ask mostly because my wife is going through a bit of medical stuff right now and is likely going to have surgery in August so I was wondering what happened and how she dealt with it. Tell me the story!

It's worth noting I do have a college degree. It's just an associates in Natural Science, but a degree nonetheless. After high school, I spent a long time with no direction, and then I went back to school. Went from a 2.0 GPA student in high school to a 3.4 GPA student in college, in a STEM major. But I agree, so many jobs can be done with just a bit of training. What I do, doesn't really require the degree. The degree just opened the door for me for my first job post-college. My second job post-college (at this prestigious university) came because of my knowledge of my responsibilities, and because I came highly recommended from people who have worked with me, including somebody who has a connection to someone here.

My wife had Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma, we dealt with it for the entirety of 2019 (and she underwent chemo, 12 rounds of ABVD, and a few other forms of treatment, as well as a few biopsies). It came out of nowhere, and was a total shock.

The short version is that one day, she was feeling awful, so she was brought to the ER, and it was there they found out she had elevated cell counts. A few scans later (and I was at work when this happened), and she was diagnosed with Stage 4 (skipping the first 3 stages, it was undetected for the longest time because she's so healthy, otherwise) HL. I left work early, drove on up to the place she was staying, and spent basically the entire night with her at the hospital until I was told to go home. I ended up calling out of work the next couple days so I could do all her errands and keep an eye on her, and it really just f***ed with our lives for a long time.

Things were getting kind of rough, because eventually we found a great opportunity, and we needed to move (which we did). But it also meant either transfering her care (which we did not want to do) or having to have her fly between the two locations any time she needed to be seen. We ended up going with the second option, because financially speaking, it was actually more within our means to fly back and forth than it was to continue living where we were.

Early this year, she was finally declared cancer free, just in time for a global pandemic to hit. She's still immunocompromised, we think, so it's been pretty tricky to avoid getting her sick (I work in a medical office, remember).

So things are stressful, but we're holding on the best we can. Not sure what your wife is going through, but take care. The biggest thing I learned from the whole experience was that you need to be stable for your significant other, because their whole life is upended, essentially. I consider myself a pretty strong person, but even I found it difficult to put on a brave face, not knowing what was going to happen next. And yet, being able to made all the difference for her.

I don't anymore, but I used to have a pretty extensive Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh card collection. I stopped though around the time that Gen 3 came around for pokemon, and around when Synchro stuff was brought out for Yu-Gi-Oh. I'll play just about any card game that can be played with base playing cards. I'm not a gambler, but I like to play games in general, even if I suck at them.

My favorite video game is probably the games in the MLB the Show series. I've been playing them for over a decade and a half now, and I just enjoy baseball at its core. I don't want to think of how many hours I've put into them.

My favorite anime is Durarara!! My favorite manga is actually the Bleach manga.

The best - My wife beating cancer. As I detailed in my post to geeogree a few posts back, my wife beat cancer this year, which is about the only really good thing to happen so far. With everything going on in the world around us, I honestly think I'd do it all again and again if it meant her staying cancer free. There's a joke about the law of equivalent exchange somewhere in here, but the value that her life has is beyond that of all the terrible things we've experienced hundreds of times over.

The worst thing has probably been the death of my cousin, Steve. He died a few weeks ago, most likely due to an overdose (waiting on the toxicology stuff). He and I weren't terribly close, and honestly, I found him annoying, more often than not. He would always ask me and my grandmother for money, and asked to crash on my couch when I was living in California (and he's been known to steal, so it was very easy to say no). But I'll always remember him for how he used to be, and for how he used to treat me back when he wasn't an addict.

This is the last picture I have with him and myself (also pictured are my mom and my grandmother (his aunt and grandmother too). It was taken six years ago (yeah, it just strikes me that we hadn't seen each other in six years, largely due to how my life has changed over those six years.

That entire day was a lot of fun. We caught up (it was our first time seeing each other in like a decade) and got to know who each other was. I used to look up to both him and his brother Andrew a lot, when I was younger, because I thought they were the coolest older people I knew. So it was kind of validating for him to call me the cool kid now. I was in a place in my life where I didn't feel cool, but hearing him raise me up meant a lot more to me than he'll ever actually know.

This past winter, he'd messaged myself and a few other people in our family in a group chat, trying to get a group get together, a family reunion. Our family isn't close like that, so it was summarily shot down. We've never had a family reunion for any reason whatsoever. And we probably never will. The funeral they held this past week for him was the closest thing to one that we'll ever get, and I didn't go, since I live in Tennessee, and the funeral was up in Pennsylvania.

Looking back, I think his message to get a family reunion was the first sign he was in trouble. It was uncharacteristic of him, and it stuck out to me as odd, but just as a weird Steve-ism. So I carry with me a certain level of guilt that I wasn't able to see the signs that he was in a dark place.

I've been in a weird stage of mourning, where I haven't cried, but I feel a profound sadness that I'll never get to see him again. Not that I had any particular plans, but that there was once an option for it. The last time I felt this sad was when my biological father died. Just like then, I thought I had more time. Just like then, I didn't.

In the upcoming year, I think I'm looking forward to baseball season resuming. The one constant in my life has always been that in March, baseball begins, and it ends in October, and in the periods with no baseball is a quietly building anticipation for more baseball. It's July. We have yet to have any baseball. But it's coming back later this month. I'm hyper-excited.

Furret :

My favorite obscure character... I have to go with Courtney Yates, if she's obscure enough (I don't figure she is), just based on her personality and sense of humor. Not counting her, I would go with Neal Gottlieb. He was a fun character to root for, and he had a boil named Mt. St. Neal.

Pacman+Mariofan :

Making a difference. In my line of work, I get the chance to help people see again, or see better than they previously did, and in rare cases, I get to serve as an emotional crutch when they are going through an extremely hard time. I won't repeat any specific stories, but I get to make a difference every time I walk through that door, and that gives me a sense of meaning.

I lived the American Dream. That is to say I did nothing, but acted really proud about it.
