Sonic charged down the spiral stairs, neglecting the obvious fact that they could collapse at any time (but surprisingly didn't). At the end of the stairs, the hallway seemed to stretch endlessly on to the darkness. There seemed to be no end to it, but there was no use in standing around anyway.

"Hey, red-hat!" Sonic called out to Mario. "Get down here and be useful!" Sonic started walking cautiously down the hallway and into the unknown.
