I'm learning how to use Autodesk Maya in school and one of my personal projects is going to be a flying castle (might end up using it for my portfolio). I figured I'd show you guys what I've been up too and what I'm starting to use all my free time for. So I'm going to use this thread as project diary

Day 01



This is a very basic rough of what I want to make. Nothing is smoothed out and the architecture is more than a little off right now. No details or lighting. Just an outer wall and a basic shape for the keep.



Playing around with the towers. trying to figure out what will work in terms of architecture. Going for a Gothic/Fantasy type of deal.

the_casualty : I could see this taking me months to fully complete. Considering I have to texture everything, plan on doing the interior, place lighting, etc. The little parts jutting off the one tower took me half an hour by themselves and I don't even think I'm going to use them.

Bintsy : Well you could actually. If you go to Autodesk Maya homepage you can get a free trial and then a free student license that's good for three years. You don't have to be in a school to use it. Then you can go to Digital Tutors and watch their introductory videos for Maya, which are very well done (it's what I use outside of school).
