septembern : Um, there are rules on posting in the forums? You HAVE to respond to the last post? But seriously, you guys have been out of school for too long. Eights year old kids are learning about sex! I read a news story a while ago about how eight year old girls were trading "favors." Does that sound like Sheltered Susy to you? But also, there is no way to monitor your kids on the internet other THAN STOP BEING LAZY PARENTS AND START SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR KIDS! They should have things to do like spending time with mom and/or dad instead of being on the internet. This site is full of thirteen year olds. Doesn't that comment to you on the role of parents in their children's lives? The computer cannot teach your kids or keep them company. Grow up and treat your kids like kids, and not burdens.

Bobbynibbles : I completely agree with you (for once ). I'm tired of people who become parents who refuse to actually parent their children. I spent 2 hours this afternoon at the park with my daughter and it was 10 times more fun than either being on the computer or doing just about anything else I could imagine doing.

Ultimately, it isn't easy, but its the responsibility of the parents. Parents need to be parents and monitor their kids, and teach their kids that certain crap on the internet isn't good so that the kids will be prepared for anything they might come up against when the parents might not be there, and of course the kids will want privacy, but the heck with their privacy. Privacy shouldn't be allowed just for simply getting older. Privacy should be allowed according to the kid's maturity, not for his or her age.
