Ok so I have an essay I want to do for this essay contest because I really need the money for college. But, I need help coming up with the topic.

The question they purpose is: What is one of the pressing social and political issues of our time and how would you address it?

I can figure out the addressing it business. Its just the actual topic. The one thing I thought of was the Gay Marriage debate. Although I am really passionate about this subject I don't really want to do it because I have a feeling its going to be very popular.

Also, I have no idea what forum this should go under but if this should be moved, go ahead and do so.

dramabethie : Just because something is unpopular doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. If you feel strongly, stand up for what you believe, support your beliefs with facts and figures, and change some minds. If you show enthusiasm and excitement, you may get people to go from not caring to supportive of gay marriage. Try it.

If not, here are some issues near and dear to my heart:

1. Reduced economic freedoms of Americans by enlarged federal government. The Constitution was written to limit government but Obama and the liberals are forcing economic agendas on us and creating a welfare state.

2. The wide gap between liberals and conservatives. We should all be working together to create a better country. Why are things so far apart nowadays?

3. Massive amounts of money pumped into sports while teachers and police officers make no money. Our education is declining. How do we create an ideology that education is important?

4. Obesity and how we can fight it in young and old people alike.

5. Cat people vs. Dog people... Who's right? Which pet is better?

warmaker : It wasn't the fact that it was unpopular that I didn't want to do it. It was the fact it was popular. I want my essay to stand out from the rest. I want it to be the one and only one they remember. you know what I mean? Its a contest so thats what I have to do. I was thinking about the budget cuts in education. Its also a cause close to my heart because I'm studying to be a teacher.
