The sound stone was given to you by Buzz Buzz so that you can record the sounds played at the "Your Sanctuaries" throughout the game. It'll make more sense when you get farther into the game... but basically your goal in the game is to visit all of the Your Sanctuaries in the game. It's a key item you must keep with you at all time... but it doesnt do anything, really.
