Q : I went back and reread the article. Turns out I was mixing a bit of information up. It doesn't help that the computer I am using (same one I read this article on) scrunches up a lot of the paragraphs and sections. Because of that, I did not see that the section I was reading about separating particular subatomic particles was not the same section as the one talking specifically about quarks. So I was reading about quarks, then I was reading about separating particles in what appeared to be the same paragraph, when they were actually separate sections of the article. That is kind of a bummer. I was excited about separation of quarks.

ooOO Science Fact! I'll post some.

♦ The diameter of a proton is approximately 0.000000000001mm (1/25,000,000,000,000in).

♦ Cats have over one hundred vocal sounds; dogs only have about ten.

♦ There are over a million described species of insects. Some people estimate there are actually between 15 and 30 million species.

♦ A pregnant goldfish is called a twit.

♦ On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year.

♦ The world's longest snake (by reliable documentation) is the reticulated python, with a maximum length of, perhaps, 30 feet.

♦ If a pinhead-size piece of the Sun were placed on Earth, one would have to stand as far as 145 kilometers (90 miles) away to be safe.

♦The density inside of neutron stars is so great, it is believed that the atoms inside of it are very tightly packed and begin to form shapes that resemble pasta. Some form flat strips like lasagna, and others resemble fusilli in spirals. It was only recently experimentally verified that this type of matter is possible, though it was first theorized 30 years ago.

♦Using a single drop of blood taken from the tail, Japanese scientists were able to successfully clone a mouse. The technology was similar to that used to clone Dolly the sheep. The mouse grew up healthy. and was able to reproduce.

Right, that's enough facts for today!

- The average number of deaths per year caused by shark attacks is less than the number of toaster related fatalities.
- The thing that makes food spicy is a compound called Capsaicin. it is found in the genus of Capsicum, which chili peppers and their relatives belong to. It causes a burning sensation when it comes into contact with mucous membrane (i.e. the inside of your nose), and your tongue is  sensitive to it, as it activates the thousands of pain receptors on your tongue. Contrary to popular belief, drinking water will not help the burning sensation go away, as Capsaicin is an oil and not water soluble. Cold milk is an effective way to treat the sensation. Capsaicin is a primary ingredient in pepper spray.

Columbia from Bioshock Infinite is simply impossible. As the altitude will cause air sickness and you will barely have any air left. Also, you can't keep in the air unless you had lots of giant magnets on the ground.

GamingMonkey : Sorry, but your facts are not correct. Not all would be hit with air sickness at that altitude. Just depends on the person. But people are able to adapt to prolonged exposure to higher elevations. So you could adapt to the high altitude and no longer get sick. And the magnets thing is wrong too. Oxygen technically can be affected by magnets, but not when they are in their gas state. Oxygen atoms move far too quickly to be affected by magnets in their gas state. They have to be in their solid state (frozen oxygen) to be moving slow enough to be pulled by magnets. So a bunch of magnets on the Earth would have no effect on oxygen.

Okay here is a really good one. I read this in an article the other day and I think this will simply blow your minds. I was shocked when I read this. So here it is:

for every grain of sand on the planet, there are 50 times as many planets in the universe. I think that is just awesome and I felt that I should share it, and where better than the vizzed community!

So there you have it! That is my random science fact for the day!

The name of the little diamond shaped thing between your nose and your upper lip is called the philtrum or the infranasal depression.

Our Sun is very young compared to others

Our stomach can digest itself without mucus (reference from penguins of madagascar)

On average an average person produces about half a gallon of mucus in a day. (yeauuugh)

The Universe is flat.
>There are 3 different shapes the Universe may be: closed, flat, or open. Measurements by the WMAP has indeed revealed the Universe is flat.

25,000,000 of your cells have died as you read this very sentence!
Your body makes 300,000,000,000 new cells each day.

The entire internet is stored (and delivered) using 540,000,000,000 Electrons! That  amount of Electrons weighs just about the same as one strawberry.

275,000,000 new stars are born each day.

Black Bot : That is why we have leap year every 4 years. If we didn't add that extra day every 4 years, our calendar would be off roughly 6 hours every year. Thinking ahead, we would be off by 24 days over a span of 100 years.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
