which is a great reason why video chat is a BAD idea for Vizzed. Our membership age ranges too greatly for it.

Stick with text chat only....

I wish some of you guys could have been on the internet back when the ONLY chat available was IRC. Black and white text ONLY. No "awesome features".

I don't see the need to pay $30 a month for a chat room when the one that exists now is more than good enough to serve the purpose... and can be modified if need be to incorporate what else we could need. Seems like a waste of money is all.

I grew up using very basic chat programs so I don't care about all the fancy stuff that this chat boasts about....

I also think having a chat room that becomes a bigger and bigger draw will result in less posting.... and that is a bad for me.

geeogree : Yeah that's something I pointed out. You know, I have very mixed feelings on the chat room. I love the features but the price is just not worth it, the thing that even made me want to do this was that users were leaving the current chat room for something they thought was better.

yeah, but it was a video chat I think.... and that's just not worth the trouble it is likely to cause. You think the spammers are bad? Just wait until people start video chatting and they turn from spammers into flashers.

I think the current chat we have right now is good enough as is if you ask me.

That there really sums up what I could say on the matter.
I mean yeah it's nice to joke around with your friends and such, but it might take away from posting and gaming.

Well, to run down some of the new points (things we dont have)-

# Kick/ban/mute the trouble-makers.
I like this one, it's one I have wanted since chat was first put in here.
# Banner ads space.
Dont care for this, though it could be used to advertise threads, game of the week, etc etc.
# YouTube/mp3/video player.
Unneeded in my opinion, it's easy enough to link to a you tube vid, no need to have an in built player.
# Video Chat Hosting Live video chat, audio chat.
Could be good, but will ultimately be abused. Maybe if it was restricted to trusted rank+ only?
Still, dont know about if it's worth it, but audio chat could be useful.
On could chat to friends while posting or guide someone around how to do things so audio chat isnt without merit.

I absolutely agree with that. If you make the chat room too fancy, people will flock to it, causing fewer people to post on the board and possibly increasing the amount of spam, as I've noticed that the chat room does tend to become quite spammy, so I hardly ever use it.

Enterprise commercial quote: "That sounds EXPENSIVE!!!" Well anyway that is a lot of cash money to throw out. Looks really cool but it would be quite the investment. I like the chat right now it works and also if people were to have an annoying voice you do not have to hear them. .

I know I haven't been here for too long, but I'll give my opinion anyway. I understand that David may be excited about a new chat room and that some people may think it's cool but...I don't really think it's that necessary. For instance, right now there are 7 chat rooms, 6 being unused. And the only one that is been used has...8 members. So, since the chat room is not that used I don't really think it would be a good idea to spend your (short) money on this. Vizzed isn't so big yet, so, in my opinion, for the moment, the chat room as it is suits the site fine.

Besides, I think that there are some stuff that are more needed than a new chat room. For instance, a search tool. Sometimes I want to find a specific thread I haven't posted in and I can't find it because google couldn't do the job (since Vizzed don't have a search tool, I use google for this). Or the GB and GBC vizzed plugin problem and the birthday date privacy asked in another post.

Even more, I think that improving the chat room that much might draw people from posting and we have already so few threads and replies... But again, this is only my humble opinion
