I usually don't look in this forum (even though I mod it) because a lot of the threads have gotten a bit too raunchy for my taste. Hmm...guess I could just delete 'em if I don't like 'em, but anyway...!

Money, fame and fortune... Sure, they might get you the girl, but they're temporary. The money will go away (unless you're smart), the fame will always go away... And if your girl is shallow enough to see those as criteria in a guy, then she'll go away right along with them.

Actually, MichaelVash brought up something really good... Check out the movie Hitch. It's more than a movie... Watch it more than once too... It can really help you if you're trying to understand what girls look for. Yes, some look for money and "equipment." But most really just want to be listened to, and like you said, they want to feel special, so they usually want a guy who makes them feel like they're one in a million.

Nowadays, that uniqueness is the big thing. People want to be different (which gave birth to some of those goth groups and stuff at school), and with advances in cosmetic technology and all kinds of stuff like that, just about any girl can look gorgeous. But if she's just one gorgeous girl in a huge crowd, there's nothing great about that. So again, they want to feel special. They want to know that even if they don't have the biggest breasts or the perfect nose or smile, that they are perfect the way they are because they're perfect for YOU and you alone.

The PROBLEM is, a lot of guys do know that, and so they put on...they put on to make a girl feel special so that she'll trust him, when all he wants is sex. Of course, that has led to girls being very wary about trusting guys, so if you try straight-up to make a girl feel special, she'll immediately be suspicious of you.

The best advice -- as others already have said -- is to just be yourself. Easier said than done, I know, and I fell flat on my face around good ol' Melissa last month because I couldn't manage to be myself around her. Keep things lighthearted, and even though your mind and hormones are telling you that you're around some gorgeous girl, as crazy as this might sound...TRY TO IMAGINE THAT YOU'RE HANGING OUT WITH YOUR BEST GUY FRIEND (except without making sexual jokes and stuff ). If you can pull it off, it'll help you keep things casual. By the same token, she might also feel just as comfortable as if she was talking with another girl... This'll make it easier for her to open up to you.

Oh, and if/when you get to the kiss... Well, let's hope you've watched the movie Hitch by then. Take Hitch's advice on the 90/10 thing. K?

EDIT: Oh yeah, almost forgot. Dinner and a movie on first date is a bad idea... You're both focused on the movie instead of each other. The dinner conversation would be dull at best. Stick with just a casual brunch or somethin' like that.

I've always heard the first date should be kinda fun. Like I took a friend I like out for miniature golf and ice cream, which I asked a few of my female friends what they thought and they all said it was a good idea. She and I are just friends, but I just have some sort of feeling that we are going to date at some point. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

And yeah same here Jake, I don't read most of these threads, because they are a bit racy for my taste.

it really depends on the person... not all girls look for the same thing in a guy... most would say caring, loving, good personality, nice looking, whilst others will purely want sex, money and stuff. just like all guys dont like the same things in a girl, you gotta remember that not all girls want the same thing in a guy! ... you just have to be yourself, and when the right girl comes along, it will happen... dont try so hard to impress... most good relationships develope from a good friendship first...

yeahyeah.. i havn't heard that amillion times, most relationships start from friendships yeah, but all my friends how are girls just end up hating me, if i hint even flirtin with em for the fun of it, sure i have bout 4 girls i can just muck and flirt round with for the fun of it, but thats not what i want, i want to be able to care for a chick be there and just have fun and love her. this may sound soppy but one of the things i want to do is just talk a long walk in the dark streets of the night, holding hands and talking. im sick of waiting i've waited so long already, i sit and watch guys treat girls like s***, and cringe wen it falls apart. i wounder y do girls go for these loser's hwo dont give a s*** about em, wen there are people who are willing to give almost anything for em

As for the whole thing of girls picking out the guys that treat them bad, I don't know. But that does seem to happen a bit.

Not trying to start an argument or anything but good friendships also lead to the most disaterious break ups. Honestly, your right about the be your self thing. You cant pretend to be someone else all your life.

i sorta have to agree with ice on this one, i've had some bad experiances, where i've let my feelings get to me and old the person(a friend) and a close one at that, and i've almost lost her friendship completly. twas scary

I thought CC really meant more of along the lines that you know a bit about each other. Not super close friends (which is the situation I find myself in as most of you know).
