American food is anything and everything that has ever had a taste ever.

America has become culturally diverse and you can get pretty much everything in America.

That said, American food is fast food. I prefer Burger King

There is quite a bit of food in America, more then most people realize. Now if you wanna get specific and say North America I can name some, such as: hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, fried okra, country fried steak, Frito chili pie.

This is just a name a few.

Usually anything with a taste, or that has been on the menu at a fast food restaurant.

American food generally consists of anything fried, extremely fattening, or overly convenient. Some examples include hamburgers, deep fried butter, and the KFC Double Down.

I would definitely say a fat cheesy hot dog. Ughh that can give u a killer stomach ache.

American to to me is anything that satisfies what you crave. You eat it because you know you will enjoy its taste; never because it is for your health. I am, of course, talking about fast food --for the most part. Those are also about convenience, but I am also talking about other foods. It can be just about anything really, but only as long as you enjoy it. For me, it is peanut butter and jelly sanwiches, macaroni and cheese, bacon, chips, you name it. If it is weighed down by saturated fats, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, and/or sugar, it is American to me.

Probably a cheeseburger and fries are as american as you can get

When I think of American Food I think of food being eaten at cook outs...hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, bbq ribs, Mac and cheese, corn on the cob.

Fast food, or all american food such as things eaten at a sports event (ie ballpark, football) burger, hotdog, fries, sloppy joe, nachos, burrito is more american than any other non-authentic hispanic food...

Since America is a country of immigrants, I would say Any food sold in restaurants are American food. Most commonly thought of would be McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Wendy's. But things like Taco Bell, Panda Express, and Asian Buffets and such are also American food. Why? Because they are all Americanized. Even though the food has an Asian base or a Spanish/Mexican base, the foods are often adjusted to fit the tastes of Americans. And they are usually foods that you wouldn't find the average family eating on a basis. It may lead people to say that they love Asian food or Mexican food and are jealous of them thinking that they get to eat like that everyday, but If they actually went to the country they would probably be shocked at what they actually eat.

Mexico-
American: *Spitting* BLEAUGH OGUUH! Oh, my God! What in St. Marie's name IS this? Rice? Beans? FISH? What the h*ll happened to your tacos and gordita crunches!?!?

despite what many people have said pizza and burgers arent american. pizza is italian and hamburgers are from hamburgh, germany.

WOW this thread got a major bump.

I'd say a hot dog. Just TRY ordering a hot dog in another country, and see how the waiter looks at you.

I have never been to America but I think fried chicken and Hot Dogs are considered American food to me.

It's way to difficult to define American food, it's all a big mix really. We've taken other peoples food and made it our own, like Tex-Mex.

For me, it would be hamburgers, hot dogs and apple pie.

Er, apple pie? =P Haha. I've always considered that to be an American food. 

Although anything deep fried, definitely. =| That's incredibly American.

Fortune Cookies
Mashed Potatoes
Continental Breakfasts

And probably many more things.
