I can see how you'd be disappointing. Being happy of how well you run is all relative. For someone who doesn't train at all, a mile would be impressive. For a marathon runner 30K would be a good run.

But I think you'll give it your best and do great!

2 Miles twice on Hilly Road (4 total). The problem this time was that I didn't take in nearly enough calories before running. It may seem like I always have an excuse for not going wrong but that's just the way running is, if everything lined up perfectly than a person would be able to go forever but there's always going to be some things that get in the way of that. I haven't been running a very big distance lately but I've made up for it by biking, a day before this day I biked 16 miles, the next day after this day I biked 18 miles (and it was 90+ degrees lol).

90 degrees? Oof, that's brutal! I actually haven't been on a nice bike ride in a while, but I've run a few m=times since coming home.

It seems as though you'll be ready in plenty of time to make your deadline. As long as nothing serious happens, you'll probably be ready within the next month (I wouldn't recommend it that soon though. )

Anyway, good luck in the heat (especially since longer distances are run better in cooler temps).

hypermonkey : Yeah I can't run long distances in extreme heat so hopefully the day I do the marathon it'll be cooler. Bike riding on a 90+ degree day sucks but not as bad because you can carry plenty of fluids, I've got 2 bottle holders and might even buy 2 more. On the 90 degree day I rode into town and bought some more stuff to drink because by the time I got to town, my drinks were pretty much gone.

It actually has to do with your muscles as well. The muscles used more for longer slower running (slow twitch muscle fibers) are more efficient when it's cooler as opposed to what you use when sprinting (fast twitch muscle fibers), which are more efficient when it's hotter.

hypermonkey : Yeah I was recently reading about the Type I and Type II muscles, some really fascinating stuff. Not sure if I fully understood all of it when I read about it (though I skimmed through it) but I understood the most important stuff.

I was watching this special on HBO about tennis/running shoes. These experts claimed and proved that tennis/running shoes force you to run on the heels of your feet rather than running on the balls of your feet. They have these shoe gloves that force you to run on the balls of your feet (which is the natural way) rather than the heels of your feet. You also run faster and it saves you energy since you are not slamming your feet to the ground at a highly fast rate. You might want to try running on the balls of your feet and see if it improves your running.

seeron : The technique I've been slowly developing is what you just said, staying off my heels, lets you go faster, longer and with fewer injuries. This also explains why I've been getting more toe injuries compared to in the past but once I've got my feet adjusted to the change, it'll definitely pay off.

Oh, I salute you people with good endurance and who can run marathons. I get shot by three or four miles on foot. 16 miles on a bike, that's insane (in a good way, if there is a good way... never mind this parenthetical mini rant). Good job and I hope you get to run your marathon (and hopefully win, if that's what your secondary goal is)

scorpion347 : You're right about not eating them the day of, but you probably shouldn't spend the whole week before running carboloading. You'll have much more stored than you'll need, and that'll usually just turn into extra weight, though not necessarily fat.

Im not a runner myself but being in JROTC surrounds me with them! one of my friends ran a 3 1/2 min. mile this year. and yeah a week may be over doing it... give 3-4 days. itll give you a lot of extra energy during the run! oh! and be aware not to dehydrate or OVER HYDRATE, they have the same symptoms im told. apparently alot of runners think they're dehydrated but over hydrate. 2 cups of water every 15 mins. will do you right!

4 Miles on Hilly Road. Was a very humid day and temperatures in the 80's. 80+ degrees isn't so bad but when you have really thick humidity it makes everything so much harder. For one thing, when it's really hot you tend to breath harder but when it's really humid, you can't get a lot of air so it makes going the distance really tough.
