My Gaming Thoughts Right Now:This is a post with some random bullet points where I speak my mind on stuff I've been thinking about, might be relevant to now, might be some random thoughts I've had about stuff, read on to find out!!!- DS, which apparently doesn't stand for dual screens! We all know about that icky Steam Deck and the good ol' Nintendo Switch. But remember back in the day with the original DS, or even the weird DSi, or the good ol' PSP/PSP Vita. Good times right! Remember having the classic cartridges of the DS and the weird Mini Discs of the PSP which makes them a kinda of a oddity in today's time. Kinda like the charger of a classic DS being annoying to have to get sometimes if you don't have a dependable retro game store near you. But anywho, it was pretty cool in retrospect to have have a unique version of a big name game on a console like the DS. Like just imagine how cool it was back then to play something like Call of Duty back then on the DS. Well I don't have to as I did back then! And honestly it wasn't very good to be honest with you. And yes nowadays you can literally just play Modern Ops War 16 on your phone, but where's the fun with that! They might not have been a 10 out of 10 game ever but it still made them have to think of a way to make a game for such a console. Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate is an OK game, and with another shot at that formula they could have made a mini series like that for the mobile consoles. And what about other games that wasn't the 'same' game as its console versions, with games like Scribblenauts, Fire Emblem, Danganronpa, or stuff like Phoenix Wright or the Trauma Center games which was just made for the DS! But while all that is said I still understand what at the end of the day games that came out on mobile consoles didn't really make a lot of money, for sure when it came to how much it probably would cost just to make it. Like if you was already making a game for a normal console, it would cost around a similar amount to go out of your way to make the same game but smaller and on a console that at least 65.7% of people didn't own. And then if it flopped then that is less money your making! And then you'll proabably never make another game with that similar system/engine again. Which is probably why I've seen games that look very similar or play similar to some random other games! Someone had to make some money off those blood, sweat and circuits! I could go on specifically about each probable console I've played, but I'll save that bore for another time! I just really like the whole concept of the DS, with how portable it was, or how you can close it to keep the screens intact. Or how you kept the stylus in the DS itself so its not sticking out/getting lost. Such a great classic game system. I kinda feel like the 3DS took a step back or 2. and the 2DS just kind of fell on its face, but that's my opinion.
- What your game has more levels? Mines got a rock! To go along with what I was going on about with the potable console side of things back in the day, the console differences when it came to video games. They used to be super different, when you were playing on the NES or the Genesis then there was a huge difference in the same game on them. Think of Rondo of Blood for the Turbo Grafx-16 and Dracula X ('same' game different name) for the Super Nintendo, literal night and day in every way. From levels to controls, to graphics, its all basically a different game. Or how people used to go on about the different versions of Symphony of The Night from the PlayStation, to the Dreamcast version, up to the crappiest version in my opinion, the 360 version. That takes away all the cool stuff from the PlayStation version and doesn't give us anything new in return. A lot of times there's a huge difference from the Arcade version and the console port versions of them, but I feel like that is something I can talk about on a different Gaming Thoughts thing. But usally its the same reason for that to happen, as for the console differences. Something like the SNES did what Sega-didnt. And obviously vice versa as it was there whole slogan, just in a more present tense, then how I said it! So a lot of times a certain console was kinda like the main console it was made for, and they did the old, put the square in a circle hole thingie for the other consoles. I think one of the prime examples of this is the differences between the SNES and the Master System version of Aladdin. Of which we can all say the SNES version is the best, but any who, it's literally like the poster child for console differences. From the graphical difference, to the differences of the sound chips, down to how to lay out the controllers. If people don't talk about the time of the cartridges when it comes to stuff like that, then its the odd time of the HD systems with the family friendly Wii being part of it all making it hard to make games for all consoles. So most time developers kinda didn't, but when they did it was a wild ride to make a Wii version of that game and sometimes an even more wild ride to play that game! From Star Wars: The Force Unleashed being basically a different game. To I almost swear the Reflex Edition of Modern Warfare being the reason every game lets you lean around corners! OK not really but that was a great addition to the Wii version. Or everyone's favorite Sonic Unleashed being pun-ily called Sonic Un-Wii-shed. While the Wii version of the Force Unleashed is kinda OK, the DS version of it just sucks. But they basically kinda had the same mindset when they made the random versions of 007: Quantum of Solace. Being the HD games are all the same and pretty First Person Shooters good, while the Wii game is basically its own thing, but more true to the HD versions this time around, but the PS2 version of it, a 3rd Person Shooter. The end of the PS2 is also a time to talk about stuff like that.I really only have experience playing the aforementioned 007 game on PS2 but I can only imagine what had to be done to play other games on the PS2 that had to be downgraded to be played on it. Like if you really had to play NHL 12 or whatever on it, then I'm kinda sorry, but I'm more sorry you had to play a hockey game on the PS2 to begin with! One of the last things ill mention about is the weird stuff. Like how Kratos is in the PS 3 version of MK9 but not other version, like ever! Or the Joker Maps being basically PS 3 exclusive to Batman: Arkham Asylum, or TV'S ADAM WEST! Batman being once again, a PS3 exclusive, I dunno why Sony had all this cool exclusive stuff, but ya know, they sure did! I'm sure we've all played a certain version of a game only to find out something is missing or added to it, only to find out its a console exclusive, can either be a cool exercise or make me sad I got the 'wrong' version!
Maybe I'm the only one to miss how unique it was to play games on stuff like the Gameboy or DS! You just let me know what your guys opinions are on the portable gaming back then, and what fun you had with it back then. Tell me what you think about console specific versions of games as well!
