Here's my list of expectations for the Switch 2, in no particular order:
Higher Resolution
An 1080p OLED screen with 4K output when docked is a must at this point. I know it's Nintendo, and they've always prioritized fun and gimmicks over powerful hardware, but 4K has been around for over 10 years now–it's the industry standard. They got away with it for the original Switch because it used the Tegra X1 processor, which was already 2+ years old. There's no excuse this time around, the Switch 2 needs to be 4K compatible already.
Backwards Compatibility
Even though Nintendo has confirmed the Switch successor will be backwards compatible with the original Switch and its massive library of games, it would also be nice to see enhanced performance and resolution for these games when playing them on the Switch 2. I would prefer it if they didn't do what Playstation does by requiring you to pay $10ish dollars to enhance certain older games, but it's hard to predict exactly what Nintendo will do if they decide to go this route. As long as I can play all my original Switch games on Switch 2, that's what's most important.
Improved Build and Features
Joy-cons that don't drift when you look at them the wrong way are also high up on my wishlist. I've heard from leaks that the new ones are supposed to be magnetic, but nothing on if they're more ergonomic and less prone to drifting.
Additionally, a longer battery life and a slimmer bezel would also be welcome additions. Based on the leaks I've seen, the concept's display seems to be nearly bezel-less. Admittedly, it does look pretty nice, but I'll continue holding my breath until Nintendo's official reveal.
Improved UI and eShop
It's hilarious how barebones the Switch is in terms of customizability and organizing your games. You couldn't even group your games in folders until early 2022. Themes beyond the simple dark and light themes are essential. Would be nice to have some dynamic moving themes as well, but that might be asking for too much right off the bat. I'd be happy with a nice assortment of solid colored themes at launch, but it's always nice to have more options available.
Similarly, buying games from the eShop is an unpleasant, soulless experience. It took a good 10-15 seconds for the games on the sales and deals page to render into existence, and it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for if the game you're trying to find wasn't released in the last week.
So yeah, a massively improved eShop with better search functionality is high up on my list. A little bit of personality and pizzazz would also be very weclome. I miss the days of the Wii Shop Channel music. Even the Wii U eShop had more life and character than the Switch's.
There are some other little things I'd like to see added and improved with the Switch 2, but these are musts for me.
