A little while ago I finished a review of My Time at Portia. I was like cool, this is my most favorite Switch game ever. Then I was like, I wonder if I ever played a game that's the complete opposite. I did. This one. Cabella's The Hunt: Championship Edition. One day I was at Gamestop with my $5 off coupon and I saw this game. I thought it looked awesome so I picked up a copy. Later that same day I instantly wanted to return it because of how bad, stupid, and dumb it was, but my receipt was already long gone.

GRAPHICS: 7/10

This is one of those times where a games loading screen is more advanced than the game itself. I've played a lot of Cabella games in the past and I loved them, but this one was just terrible. The way the game looks was easily the best part of the game, and even that lacked in some areas because despite nice looking scenery, many of the animations were slow and laggy, and sometimes, items and colors felt out of place.

SOUND: 3/10

First of all, the games volume is very much broken. You could be standing in the middle of a stream and you'll barely hear the sound of the water yet at the same time, the sounds of the different birds will be deafening. (Let me also point out that there were no birds around me at the tine I noticed this.)

You could literally fire a bow 30 feet in front of you and when the arrow hits something it makes a noise louder than a gunshot, but if you fire it any further, you won't hear it at all. The sound of the random wildlife is also very counter productive. You're always hearing birds no matter where you are and they're so loud. if you're supposed to be hearing your target animal, it will easily be drowned out.

ADDICTIVENESS: 3/10

It's hard to have fun in this game. I tried free play and spent a good 40 minutes before I got a kill. First I travel lot until I see a random light coming out of the ground. It tells me that an animal waa nearby and shows me barely viable tracks. I follow them, as they fade in and out, until after walking another 60 seconds, I see an animal. Then I shoot it. Guess what? It doesn't die, it runs away, and I have to start the whole process all over again. This formula gets old very quickly. You could spend as much time as you need getting to know all your weapons and take hours to get one kill. No thank you.

STORY: 3/10

There's basically no story, even though There's a season hunt mode, it's just you trying to hunt down different animals. It sounds boring and it is, but if you don't do it you won't be able to unlock any other regions to hunt in.

DEPTH: 7/10

Okay, maybe the game is pretty good when it comes to depth. Each location is pretty big and in total there's 9 different areas for you to unlock and hunt in. There's also a nice assortment of animals to hunt down, an online tournament mode, and a handful of minigames. It seems like the online stuff is the biggest draw for the game and historically hunting has always been a solo kind of game, so there still isn't that much love for this kind of a game mode.

DIFFICULTY: 9

The game is hard okay, I already explained about all the work that has to he put into tracking and killing an animal and the process takes a really long time. It gets even worse once you're in new locations with animals that are harder to track and even tougher to kill.

OVERALL: 4.7/10

You know how you go and see a movie and it's one of those "It's so bad it's good" movies? That's not the case with this game. This game is a "It's so bad it's even worse" kind of game. I rage quit so many times and got frustrated a bunch of times. Part of me is furious that the game costs around $20 or more, but part of me also thinks that for someone who enjoys the multiplayer experience, that game mode might be a little more appealing. A few people experiencing this horror together is a pretty cool thing. Overall, there was only one time I ever returned a game the same day that I bought it, and if I could have found my receipt, this would have been the second. Overall, Cabella's The Hunt: Championship Edition gets a 4.7 out of 10 from me.
