What do I mean by these titles? I mean extra content as, things you can do in the game that aren't required to beat the main story. After game content, side quests, secret places and Pokèmon. And by new features, I mean things that haven't been done before. Like how double battling was added a long time ago, or Pokèmon coordinator contests. Oh yeah, who could forget Mega Evolution?

Which do you value more, a game that's a fresh experience, or a game filled to the brim with stuff to do?

I personally value content more. Even with new features being added to the franchise it will still be largely the same game. The franchise is too big for them to take any significant risks with the formula.

There's also the fact that I've disliked many of the changes that have been made. Mega Evolutions were and still are a bit unbalanced in my opinion. In Sun and Moon where they decided to change the Pokemon league formula it was largely done in order to make the game feel even more casual which I didn't think was needed as the games are already very accessible thanks to the EXP share applying to the entire team and gym leaders being water down.

I think some of the best examples of this is HG/SS and BW2. They are my favorite games in the franchise and both did relatively little to change up the main formula. In stead they focused on adding a lot of extra content and polishing what was already there and I think they were all the better for it.

I much rather prefer new features because even though new content might be added, it's always going to follow a similar pattern and structure.

Black and White 2 came out and added new places to visit. But wait, battle this, catch that, train those, run this way. A new quest or story is always based around something that's already been done. That's why new features really shake things up.
