What do I mean by these titles? I mean extra content as, things you can do in the game that aren't required to beat the main story. After game content, side quests, secret places and Pokèmon. And by new features, I mean things that haven't been done before. Like how double battling was added a long time ago, or Pokèmon coordinator contests. Oh yeah, who could forget Mega Evolution?

Which do you value more, a game that's a fresh experience, or a game filled to the brim with stuff to do?

I personally value content more. Even with new features being added to the franchise it will still be largely the same game. The franchise is too big for them to take any significant risks with the formula.

There's also the fact that I've disliked many of the changes that have been made. Mega Evolutions were and still are a bit unbalanced in my opinion. In Sun and Moon where they decided to change the Pokemon league formula it was largely done in order to make the game feel even more casual which I didn't think was needed as the games are already very accessible thanks to the EXP share applying to the entire team and gym leaders being water down.

I think some of the best examples of this is HG/SS and BW2. They are my favorite games in the franchise and both did relatively little to change up the main formula. In stead they focused on adding a lot of extra content and polishing what was already there and I think they were all the better for it.

I much rather prefer new features because even though new content might be added, it's always going to follow a similar pattern and structure.

Black and White 2 came out and added new places to visit. But wait, battle this, catch that, train those, run this way. A new quest or story is always based around something that's already been done. That's why new features really shake things up.

A few years ago I probably leaned new features in this discussion. However lately it feels like Game Freak keeps trying to one up their own new features in the next set of games. It went from mega evolution which was cool, to z-moves which were just unnecessary, to now dynamaxing which just looks absolutely ridiculous. I'm honestly scared for what they come up with next.

Now I will definitely vote extra content here. With the games now being on the switch that gives them even more freedom to make sure that enough post game stuff is available for us to do. I mean they would be fools not to but you know how they're treating Pokemon recently so who knows.

What I do know is that the games being on switch means that there might exist a small chance for the battle frontier to return. I think the last games to feature it were HeartGold and SoulSilver, so it's long due for a return. Especially after they teased it in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

I would rather have richer content over new features and gimmicks introduced every generation. I hate being negative before the games even come out, but I already don't like the look and idea of dynamaxing. It makes sense for them to introduce mechanics that EVERY pokemon can do (like use broken Z-moves and simply grow larger), rather than back themselves into a corner the way they did with mega evolutions (since only 40-50 pokemon can do it), but I think it's just lazy overall. I really hope having giant kaiju battles doesn't slow the game down the way totem pokemon with auras did on the 3DS for Sun & Moon/ US & UM.

I'd prefer it if Game Freak spent more time developing what they already had rather than immediately cramming some new gimmick into the next generation. Who knows, maybe people will grow to like dynamaxing like they did with mega evolutions, it's hard to say. All the same, I'd rather have better/extra content.

Your title is hard to understand, pennylessz. I give you credit for trying to explain, but your wording is quite confusing mostly due to bad punctuation. But yeah, I think they should stop trying to force improvements onto the Pokémon formula, because at this rate, everything just feels too complicated. Most of the stuff introduced in Generation 7 like Z-Moves, Alolan Formes, and Island Challenges among other stuff just feels awkward and unwelcoming. If they were to add something, they should bring back a feature where your Pokémon can duel each other like in Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2 and Pokémon Battle Revolution. That would be REALLY awesome!

Furret : I couldn't agree with you more. Mega Evolutions were awesome and they should seriously be making more of them instead of introducing ridiculously pointless crap like Z-Moves and the stupidly abysmal Dynamaxing. Z-Moves are just pointless and unnecessary, while Dynamaxing is just a shamless and half-assed replica of the awesome Mega Evolution. Also, the loss of the Battle Frontier is no skin off my nose, because at least they give you something like it where you can use your Pokémon in battle after you've beaten the game, just without all the fancy modes and stuff.

I prefer especially with pokemon a game with a ton of stuff to do. I still stand firm with my belief that pokemon emerald is still to this day the best pokemon game due to how amazing the post game is. Think about it, not only is there a secret battle with Steven but a entire battle frontier with 8 frontier brains to conquer after defeating the elite 4. And I can honestly say emerald is the only pokemon game I still play to this day that I dont get tired of due to how much you can do in the game between winning contests and the battle frontier.
