The time has come my brothers and sisters. In creating spirits mode, Ultimate is able to craft countless challenge matches themed after the many, many runner ups for the roster. I mean, I wouldn't see the digger mole being a character ever, so at least it can present itself somewhere. Still, with how basic the formula seems, it's a bummer we can't use the tools they used to create our own spirit battles. Like, come on, you can choose which part of a multi-section stage to stay on? How do we still not have these options available??? Spirits are a different kind of deal for many people, some like taking in each challenge as they come fair and square, and some just pick the strongest set up and immediately win half the time. Then they upload 20 minutes of one hit kills onto youtube. When I first beat World of Light, and saw New Game + was available, I did the sensible thing by starting a completely new save on harder difficulty. Yeah, either way you put it, the campaign kind of loses that challenge once you have hundreds of spirits on hand, therefore I let the recommended set up decide my battles for me, so I could face each spirit battle at around the intended difficulty. This let me experience some interesting battles that I took for granted, and also let me feel the true fury of the most agonizing challenges in the game. So yeah, just post those in this thread or whatever. My example is a pretty early spirit in the game, 9-volt and 18-volt from WarioWare. Let me tell you about these guys, they are represented by Incineroar and Villager, whom you will fight at the same time. On top of that, they have a permanent assist trophy active. The volt's whole thing is that they're really into retro-gaming, in WarioWare their micro games were usually callbacks to other series'. So naturally they just HAAAAD to pick the sheriff. Let me tell you something about the sheriff, he's EVIL. He was my absolute least favorite assist in Smash 4, and while this game has a slew of powerful assists, he's still up there. First of all, why is he even an assist? He's an 8-bit cowboy!!! Second, he has a really irritating attack pattern, where he wanders around in any degree of motion and fires really fast, large, and frankly overpowered shots in the 8 cardinal directions. He's smart too, if he sees you're ABOUT to wander into his range he'll fire in advance. We're not done yet either, aside from having to deal with two fighters and an assist, they also spawn galagas. Basically I found that once I hit 60-70% I wasn't recovering out of getting caught in those. In case you're wondering though, yes, this battle takes place in the Gamer stage, and it's in the battlefield format. If the stage was as normal that would have actually been a boon, because then the enemies might get screwed over instead, but alas. Somehow, the combination of Incineroar, Villager, the Sheriff, and galagas all blended into the most devious setup possible. The Villager's strategy is to fire off as many projectiles as possible, so as soon as you get hitstun something else can mutilate you, for instance, the big muscle, Incineroar! Everything this cat hits you with will send you reeling basically, oh and don't forget that if you ever step in the sheriff's sights he'll shoot you off too. On one hand you have to avoid his range, on the other a bunch of gyroids, and then Incineroar is hot on your tail, and while you're getting flung back and forth, one of the two fighters will pick up a galaga. Now you have to avoid certain sections of the stage once they activate, but it's likely you'll get slammed into their beams anyways, and even if you had a low enough percentage, one of the other three jerks will have a free opportunity to deal a ton more damage before you go, if you get off the stage you're basically dead since the sheriff WILL get itself in shot range to finish you off, try and go under the galagas and sheriff range and projectiles, Incineroar will jump down to pound you into oblivion. I'm not gonna lie, at some point my tactic was picking Kirby, hoping the sheriff was in a bad spot, then spam the stone ability in the corner of the stage and hope the CPU walks into it. That didn't really work, and then, by some miracle, the Villager plunged himself off the stage, then I managed to make a mad dash to the sheriff and attack. After a bit of a skirmish I took out the sheriff, then lured Incineroar into my own galaga. It was the most liberating moment, and I didn't play Smash for five days after. End of. What was your quest like? The time has come my brothers and sisters.
