One of the big struggles I've dealt with for the past 10+ years on this site is being the only developer (although JigSaw did do some development years ago within that time frame). An idea I've had would basically allow any trusted user who is qualified to develop for Vizzed. Here's a quick summary of how it would work.

Basically a user would get their own section on the site with access to basic functions and variables that the site currently uses. There'd be a basic PHP editor which would allow them to create their own PHP code that would get executed on a templated page. This templated page would basically contain the header and footer of the site so that all the developer would have to worry about is the actual content. The developer would have control over the page customization to an extent but the page would still be part of the Vizzed eco system and therefore have the same or a similar layout (refer to my outdated Pokemon Go page for an idea of theme customization possibilities).

The developer would have access to their own database, not only for security reasons (they wouldn't be able to touch the main DB) but also to allow them to have few restrictions. The code that the developer adds or edits would go live instantly so they'd see the results of what they did instantly. As mentioned above, they'd be given access to lots of variables and functions that Vizzed uses, saving them a lot of time so that they don't have to worry so much about scheme, security, and many other things that slow down the development process.

This "Vizzed Development Playground" could also be a good place for users interested in learning PHP to test out the language, play around with it, and get feedback from what they're experimenting with in a simplified way. The developers would also have their own directory on Vizzed (example: Vizzed.com/YourTitleHere) and would be allowed to have multiple pages (although there would be limits and Viz pricing). Developers would also be given the ability to upload graphics and various files (most likely with a Viz price).

This idea would allow qualified users to help out the site without all of the problems that tend to go with having developers help out. A basic version of this feature could probably be implemented within a week most likely. It would also technically allow people to make their own pages without any PHP coding as well but those pages wouldn't be as dynamic.

So feedback time. What do you guys think of the idea? Would you use it as a developer? Would you explore what others have created?

I think that it could be a good idea, at least it won't hurt to try it out.

I have below zero knowledge in coding, and it's not like I can dwell deep within it in the near future, so I won't have a use for this. I have no problem in helping out in other ways, like reviewing the content others create, because I'm here almost everyday and I'm sure to miss very few things going on around this place.

I hope we can get a few people interested and get this going rather soon. Whatever helps to get this site more complete means making it more appealing, and that can have an effect in traffic, no matter how slight.

Instead of developing features for vizzed because that won't really work too well maybe it is better to use this as a way of allowing Vizzed users making their own website on Vizzed. So kind of like geocities back in the day or wikia.

The web developers will need at least the user variables from the main DB like user id's, usernames, powerlevel so they can give their features or pages some basic functionality. I'm not sure they need much more then that but depends on what they are making.

JigSaw : That's kind of part of it. A while ago I had planned on eventually making a CMS for users where they could create their own websites hosted on Vizzed with a WYSIWYG editor. Allowing them to do some PHP coding on it would give them more possibilities, such as creating their own web browser game for example.

EX Palen : As mentioned above, I would also give user the option to create their own webpage with very little knowledge required.

Maybe I could give it a try then, but I can't promise anything.

Either way, I'd like to first see the work of people who do have the knowledge, because they're the big guys in this topic. If this idea works out for them, then I could take a dip and attempt something, even if it's just creating "beta" pages that others can complete later on.

So, essentially what you are saying is like old MySpace?

I think this could be a great way to bring in new ideas, and especially more people. Some people might be intrigued by a certain look, design, or content and come for that page, but not the main vizzed page. Therefore, if it works, there could be many more visitors in the future, depending on what users create.

That would be a great idea to give any users that doesn't have anykind of coding experience to be able to customize a user's page without having to force to learn advance coding or pay someone (in Viz) for the codes to add those kinds of content.

thing1 : Something like MySpace, or in my standpoint, DeviantArt (I know the whole layout on DA and what not).

I think if we do go with something like a MySpace-style or DeviantArt-style webpage for an users individual accounts, we can use the Vizzed Market for people to purchase Widgets that other users created, and if we do in fact do that, it would bring back a whole lot more people onto Vizzed once again.

Although this idea might not work (or it might, who knows), but I think tying with the item you need to buy to eliminate ads without using the ad-blocker, you should have users buy like a premium key item to gain more content by either buy that content by spending Viz, or by donating a certain amount of money. I know on DeviantArt, you get far more content if you get a premium membership (what they call "CORE" on there), and I think we could do something similar to that here on Vizzed

Just pitching my ideas, but even if my ideas doesn't work, I'm still on board on this idea to let Trusted Members or higher to develop their page without having to go through all those complicated coding mess.
