Borderlands 2 Featured Review

Borderlands 2 Review by: darthyoda - 9.8/10

There's trouble on the Borderlands!
Gather around, now, the first rule of this tour is that all tourists MUST stay close to the bounty hunter accompanying us... If you don't, well, we'll just leave that to the imagination of the people. First watch this video so we are all familiar with what this land is all about: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzZ8YtuiVD4 Enjoy it! Well, now we all know how the rest of the tour will be. Take the guns out, level up your character, and watch out for those Psychos!

Borderlands 2, is the most realistic shooter ever... Okay, maybe not. But it is awesome! You have a very unique game, as it's a First-person Shooter, but it's also an RPG. But it's more than just a shooter or an RPG, it's artistic! The game is designed like a cartoon for adults. A gritty, colorful, and weird place. The enemies are bizarre and out-of-this world! The guns, oh the guns! They are most likely the best I've ever seen in a game. You have so much variety packed into one game of almost pure awesomeness! Now, lets gather in the armored tour bus, and get the Gatling gun fired up! It's Borderlands 2 time!

Graphics: I mentioned this already. It was designed with a cartoon in mind. That gives it one of the most unique designs out there. But, don't let the cartoon be a negative, it just adds to the games atmosphere! Which, is amazing. You have bizarre and over-the-top characters, and the designs show that. The enemies are all nuts! I mean, look at the name one the guys have. Boom, or Psycho, or Midget Shotgun... Who has a name like that? But, that's not all. You have Claptrap... But, I will describe him more in sound... His design is really interesting. A robot, with eyes, and arms, but he looks like a box, on a wheel. But even the buildings are design with the same style and feel as the rest of the game. Crisp, cartoon, and awesome! But let's not leave out a main feature, the characters! They are cool, and they look exactly like the ones in the opening cinematic. Which adds to the entire games feel!
Is anything else worthy of this beautiful scenery? Well tourists, it's a 10/10!

Sound: Remember Claptrap? Yes, this non-stop-talking machine... Who is your supposed master... He dominates much of the on-screen talking... But don't worry. There are many other sounds to drown out this purposefully annoying character. You have grenades, and guns, oh, and guns! The guns have nice sounds, which adds to the feel which Borderlands has worked so hard to achieve. The guys talking are also amazing, and, although some dialogue is a little cheesy, it still is humorous, and this among many things makes the game one of the best! The guys yelling at you as they run to their doom! The guns going nuts! The grenades exploding left and right! Yes, this games is packed full of sound. But, what about music? Well, it has a western style, but it's not quite western either. It's a mix. But, that gives another thing which is unique!
It's almost a shame to give it only a 9/10. "Watch out for that, oops... Our first tourist has left us..."

Addictiveness: Well, is shooting some random guy fun? Well, sometimes... How about a madman running towards you with a hatchet? Okay, sound a little more fun? How about grenades, and guns, and birds, and a giant turret gun? Oh, I forgot, there's that other guy with a shotgun too big for himself... He's shooting too. This is put together with a unique level up system, a gun collection, shields, grenades and much more. All of this with a tinge of humor added in for good measure. This makes for an awesome playing experience for all gamers, looking for a challenging and mature style game, that has humor. This game, despite some annoying characters, is almost just too addictive! It's definitely worth a longer boot up time, but it's made up for by few loading screens and very little lag!
10/10!

Story: "Handsome Jack here, what are you shooting up that guy for?" Okay, that was the voice of the ruthless leader of the company Hyperion. This and you are in the land of Pandora... Sound like a place you want to be? Well, I'm not so sure you do... You are surrounded by hoards of bad-guys, each wanting to rip you apart... But, don't let that sound like the only story. You need to make sure that the Vault Key is destroyed! Why, because the Vaults are dangerous... Just make sure that you have enough ammo! Then you can blast your way through every situation possible, shoot first, don't ask questions, 'cause no ones left... That's the motto you need for this game. There's no stealth, there's no strategy, it's just shoot! The story keeps this atmosphere from the first before-game cut-scene, and that just makes each moment an experience you will never forget!
Unforgettable, just unforgettable! This game gets a 9/10.

Gameplay/Controls: Each class, which is a common thing in RPGs, has a a perk. Some have a turret, others have a cloak like feature, while others can use a type of telekinesis, or regenerate ammo and health... That is only a fraction of the total of 6 classes. Each class has a button execute for the ability "F" and this is nice, as it's right next to the keys you are already using. You still have the basic move controls, the standard fire, scope set-up and the normal throw grenade... But, you have Tab for Leveling up, Map, and changing the up to 12 guns you can carry. This adds an ease, as you can easily access all of the important things, with one button. You just need to select the main area that you want to view. The game doesn't lag, even on a computer that has a hard time running many games, the load screens are few, and they are short. But, when booting up the game, it takes a while for it to get passed the "Checking for Downloadable Content" part, but after that, it's fast! Overall:
This gets a 10/10 for simple controls, smooth gameplay, and very little waiting time!

Depth: Like pretty much all other RPGs you still have side "quests" and main missions, but, I suggest you level up your character, as you can get perks like Elemental Damage, Gun Accuracy, and many other perks. This, plus the damage increase that is necessary to survive! But, the second wind gives you a nice time to make sure you don't need to restart the area. This, and the constant flow of enemies gives the game incredible amount of content. Not to mention all of the DLC available. This adds more character styles, guns, and missions, and enemies. For a FPS game, this is unrivaled among all of the shooters out there!
Although there is a lot to do, it doesn't quite reach Skyrim, which is my 10 of 10 level. It gets a 9/10.

Difficulty: The game is insanely hard, if you don't level up, and make sure you spend both Skill points. There are two skill trees. One has tokens you can "spend" the other uses the main level up system, giving you the standard RPG skill points. This give the game a slightly easier twist, but the bosses from the very start are hard. Especially when you are a low level 3. Make sure you level up, choose the guns you can use, and make sure you use your character skills! And, MELEE the face of that Psycho!
9/10. It's really hard sometimes!

Overall: The game is amazing! You have a colorful, and unique style, which gives the game an atmosphere, which almost everything in the game builds on! This plus the humor put into the game, with lines like this one, "...That was a test, it's good you didn't shoot. Now, when I say Shoot the gate, you should shoot it, that was also a test. Good you didn't shoot!..." That is just one example of an exelent comedic timing by the voice actors, and the overall comedy action tone of the game! Should the game get a lower rating than a 9.8/10?
