Now, this game has got a lot of negative reception from a lot of reviewers. I'm here to say that this game is not that bad.
One of the biggest aspects that people complain about are the controls. They are flawed, but I was able to play the game just fine with them. A to jump and long jump after walking a bit, and hold down in the air to web-swing. B to punch/kick while ducking and hold it down for a web attack. The controls aren't unresponsive, but the punching is delayed. Thus, it's faster to duck down and kick enemies than to punch them.
The graphics aren't really bad, but they're not really good either. Spiderman looks retarded, bullets look strangely like carrots, but the graphics get the job done. I'm not a big fan for games having really good graphics, I just need to be able to tell what I can and can't jump on, what is a platform and what is a flying enemy, and things like that. The music, well, depends on the person. If you don't like the tune, you won't like the music, because there aren't that many music tracks ingame. I personally like the music, but it's all a matter of opinion.
I am likely to play this again sometime, just to see if I can beat it. The later levels get extremely difficult. It's just fun for me. Your opinion determines how addictive this game is, though.
The story is just your average Spider-Man story. Mary Jane is kidnapped, and Spider-Man has to go and try to rescue her. Same kind of stuff you would expect. And why do all the villains magically have Spidey's phone number?
The game doesn't have too much depth, but this game does have some things going for it, which is better than some walk-&-fighters. When you defeat an enemy, one of three powerups appears. One just gives you 200 points, another gives you a web upgrade (which will reset your web to the first level if you get it while at max web power) and 200 points, and the last one gives you 200 points and a web cartridge. The web cartridges are going to be really important, because the game becomes really, really hard.
The difficulty is very high. You only get 3 lives and 3 continues (which start you exactly where you died) to beat it. You will lose some of those lives to the bosses and pits. You get an energy bar, which can be quickly depleted by anything other than a regular thug punching/kicking you. The enemies include thugs that just try to walk up and punch you, thugs which stand in one place, crouch, stand up and shoot, and crouch back down, enemies in manholes that try to grab you if you get too close (which you can stomp on) , birds, and the supervillains in the comic book.
Overall, this game isn't that bad. It has its problems, though. It depends on your opinion whether you condemn or love this game. I like it, but you may not. It's all a matter of personal taste.
